Alert: Planned maintenance for UK users

Just a quick bit of news before the weekend.  While I may write this blog with our US audience in mind, I know that some of you out there are reading my words from places far beyond my local shores.  That is why I wanted to make absolutely sure that any of you reading from the UK are aware of the maintenance scheduled for this weekend.

Starting on Friday evening (November 7th) and continuing throughout the night, we are going to be undertaking extensive but essential work to our mail servers which means that some of you may not be able to access your archived mail folders or your mail overnight.

Please be sure to head over to our sibling blog for more information, and for status updates. And for the others reading … you can rest assured that I will do my best to get back to caring just about America as soon as I can.

Ryan:
Having problems with Yahoo Mail Classic and New. Not browser related as behavior replicates itself across 3 browser platforms, IE7, FF3, Chrome. It involves attachments. If I want to view one, it no longer gives me a dialogue box after I click on the link, it gets scanned, and it says ‘download now.’ It shows as downloding on the lower right download indicator in the righthand corner of the menu bar..but it never shows on desktop, and in fct bounces me to a plain white page. I can sen you the URL of the blank white page if you want, you have my personal email. Most irritating behavior.

I think it would have been great if we users get a message telling us whats going on when we try to log on!! I was getting msge saying error 14. And got quite abit frusted. I googled to find any fixes to the problem until i came across this site. I believe there are other users like me who are probably running “fixes”. Found sites actually advising of such!

How come u said it would be for the 7th of Nov in the alerts and then on the actual day reveal that it’s actually the 7th and 8th?
Now we’re at the 8th…. and still i can not get into my account. This is no good, really it’s no good. I NEED to get into my e.mail account.
So when? When can i?
All this messing around, for what? Is any possible value u can add to the service going to outweigh the loss of confidence i am now feeling in yahoo? No, of course not.
I want to get into me e.mail sap.

Thanks for the info.

Now you can go back to “caring just about America” – but wait . . . . .

Either you Americans have just began to understand irony or the flipancy of your comment belies the truth? Please understand all of your customers are important and us users ‘across the pond’ are by no means second rate afterthoughts! Many thanks!

Green Garen,

It was merely a joke, intended to poke fun at the ethnocentrism that Americans are sadly famous for (see, some of us have long appreciated irony). I thought that the winking emoticon would indicate that my tongue was placed firmly in my cheek.

However, given that many of our products differ in the various international regions where they are available, I encourage readers to view my posts as coming from a US product perspective (that may reflect different specifics compared to what is in your area). In this case I know that there is a UK focused blog available, and wanted to make sure that our UK based readers were aware that blog and of the outage.

Rayon

Your explanation is excepted! With ethnocentrism being prevelant, perhaps this marred my initial reaction, with some of you understanding irony, I’m going to end up mighty confused!!! :-)

Thanks again, I’m off for a nice cup of Tea.

Hi, I’m a U.S. citizen living in Canada. It is 1:36 p.m. EST on Nov. 8. Just wondering if Yahoo ran into some trouble while doing the UK/Ireland updates and other servers are being affected? An update would be most useful. Thanks in advance.

I can access my mail but can not reply or forward as no text box comes up. Should I assume this is related to the maintainence being performed this weekend and when do you anticpate being back to normal? Kinda stranded not being able to reply to emails. Thx, CJ

Removing RSS feeds from yahoo mail is terrible for me. I love RSS feeds in my yahoo email. What’s the deal? Why make such a terrible choice in removing it…There should be more “plug-ins” allowing additional functionality. Not less.

Hi

I am a UK user living in the USA. Following the “upgrade” last weekend, my emails were accessible from Sunday to Thursday. From Thursday lunchtime they are no longer accessible – error message is constantly that server has taken too long to respond and timed out.
I have updated Firefox since, changed my preferences to USA, re-booted modem and PC, checked Firefox settings – all to no avail.

My husband can sometimes access it via Wireless Card, but this is not every time. I have tried not using Firefox and using different PC but no luck.

Any ideas> If I cannot access email there is no point in having Yahoo account – my AOL account is working fine so if problem is not resloved soon I suppose I’ll just have to change everything over to that one.
Shame as I like Yahoo…..

It seems there are serious ongoing problems following this upgrade.

Can anyone at yahoo please tell us exactly what is going on?

I have several email accounts (btinternet.com accounts hosted by yahoo), one with several sub-accounts, some of which are downloading normally into Outlook Express, but some of which are not.

The worst prolblem is with my main account, I have been unable to retrieve mail using POP3 since the evening of Nov 6th – although I can access it (most of the time) directly at yahoo. Strangely, most of the sub-accounts are downloading normally.

Very strange, and very annoying – especially the lack of information either from yahoo or from bt…..
