Making the move to that new @ymail.com or @rocketmail.com

So, were you successful in getting the email name that you’ve always wanted? That’s great news!! Now, are you trying to decide how to let everyone know that you’ve got a terrific new email address? And maybe you’re wondering if you can move all your mail and contacts over to that new ymail or rocketmail account. Well have I got a tool for!!!
How can I let people know that I have a new email address?
Whether you are coming from hotmail (yuck), gmail (blech) or even another yahoo (hooray!) email account, we’ve got tool that automatically moves everything from your old email address to your new ymail, rocketmail and/or yahoo.co.uk email address. It couldn’t be easier.
A little while back, my colleagues and I created a video that shows just how easy it is. I’ve included it on this post. But before you hit the play button, I just want to point out a couple of small differences from when we made the video (and believe me they are small).
1. You now have a choice to move everything to @ymail.com and @rocketmail.com
2. You can no longer move calendar items.
3. It can take up to 24 hours to move everything over (so keep checking)
Just take a look at this video (or click here for a full screen version)…
See how easy that was? Check it out for yourself
If you that can’t place where you know the music from… It’s “Maybe Tomorrow” by Terry Bush the theme song from the TV series “The Littlest Hobo”
Happy Switching!

It would be nice if we had the options if we had the choice to use ymail or rocketmail as an extra address.
That way we could keep the old yahoo and new ymail in the same place without having to do any transfering…
Thanks

I recently transferred my mail across from yahoo mail, while the process is very simple I found that there are a few mails missing from each folder, the missing mails appear to be missed at random making it diffucult to find what has not been transferred.

Now that’s really simple!. love the music too :)
I’d agree with Eduard, would love to have the new account as a secondary email address, and access them both from the same interface. But I suppose that’s asking too much :(

Had anybody ever migrated from an Yahoo account with any language other than English? Chinese, Japanese, Koren, or Simplified Chinese? It all came out as ???????? in both Address & Email. Yuck!

What is the point for the new domain? Is the Yahoo! mail domain being fazed out?
I want features like folders within folders, that what Yahoo! mail needs to concentrate on developing.

Hi Ash,
The reason for the new domain is to allow more people to sign up to a Yahoo! Mail account with the name that they want. We are not phasing out Yahoo! Mail. And be certain that we are always working hard to improve Yahoo! Mail and add new features that you and others are requesting.
Thanks,

You can get the new email address, then set it to forward all emails to your old email address. This can be done through the options with the pop or forwarding option. Then you can add the new account to your old account through the options menu also, with the add or edit account option. This way when you send emails there will be a dropdown listbox in the FROM section, and you can select which email you want to send from! And all email going to your new account should automatically go to your new one, so when giving out your email address you can give people the new one, and all the emails they send there will go to your old acount!!!

That’s very nice, but I think it would be better if we had an option to add the new E-mail to our previous one with the ability to use them both through Yahoo Website

Hello,
Love your blog, great to know whats going on with the best e-mail provider! but I’m sadden by the fact that you can’t offer new e-mail address in exsisiting one nor can you forward them to yahoo account i understand the reason for not forwarding but not the reason for not allow new e-mail address to our previous yahoo account.
Just one more thing you’ve allowed stat

I would love to know how to retrieve my ymail email from a program like eudora or outlook / entourage using IMAP.
I have looked for a info base but cannot find anything.
If its not possible then what is the point ?
Thanks

Hi Akalu,
Thanks for your comment. You are welcome to use a client like Outlook, Eudora etc. to retrieve your @ymail email messages, but you will have to use POP. As long as you signed up under the UK TOS you can POP your email messages with a client such as Outlook. If you signed up for your @ymail email account under the US terms of service then you will need to sign up to MailPlus to receive that feature.
Thanks,
Andrew

I have just switched from Yahoo.co.uk account to a Ymail.com account and am very happy with the transfer (Other than having to re-enter calendar items).
Now I have migrated, what’s the simplest way of closing my yahoo.co.uk account and ensuring that all the incoming emails to my old address get redirected to my new account?
Thanks
Georgina

Hi Georgina,
As a @yahoo.co.uk you can set up mail forwarding and forward your email from your @yahoo.co.uk email address to your new email address.
Hope that helps.

I have made a new address with rocket mail and i love it – as not many people have the address but that just makes it a lot easier for people to get in touch with me. People seem to find it nice that the address is quite unique however it won’t be for long!!!

How about an incentives scheme – recommend x amount of new subscribers and get your £11.99 yearly fee removed
Awesome or what, right?

Hi thanks for the response, but Im curious how Yahoo Mail can really compete on the whole with gmx / gmail etc when you charge money to access email over IMAP, which is more robust than POP3.
Its slightly annoying that with all the troubles Yahoo have, that your still plying the pay for features thing, when everyone offers it for free.
Are there any plans to enable IMAP for everyone like everyone else ?

You forgot the ‘l’ in ‘The Yahoo Mail Team’

Are you able to answer my query Andrew or are you overlooking because there is not a positive answer ;0)
Thanks

Hi Akalu,
To answer your question above, we don’t ask our UK users to pay for the POP/SMTP feature. We also don’t ask our UK users to pay for the throw-away addresses feature: http://ymailuk.com/blog1/2008/07/31/addressguard/
In fact, if you read German, Yahoo was just named the #1 Webmail service by Computerbild magazine in Germany: http://www.computerbild.de/artikel/cb-Tests-Test-News-Test-News-yahoo.de_3109001.html
IMAP is not a feature of Yahoo! Mail yet (with the exception of mobile devices), so we are not asking users to pay for that. I hope, like many of you, in the future we will be able to offer IMAP service in addition to POP/SMTP.
Sorry to not respond sooner, there are a lot of comments/questions and, unfortunatlely, I can’t answer each and every one.
Thanks,
Andrew – Yahoo Mail Team

I have moved from a yahoo.co.uk to a ymail.com address
Will the ability to transfer Calendar items be reinstated ? Also can I transfer my RSS feeds that I have associated with my old yahoo.co.uk account to my new ymail.com account ?
Otherwise a very smooth transition, congrats
thanks

Dear All, I can see you all going ga ga over yahoo’s Trueswitch application. Has anyone used it recently?. I have used it a month ago for four of my accounts in Gmail to transfer the messages to the newly created four yahoo accounts. After some mails were transfered, Yahoo posted a notice stating” Unusual Activity Detected. To protect you, your account has been suspended from sending, saving, and receiving mail for up to 48 hours.”
Consider following points:
1) Yahoo is incapable of identifying the activity of its own software and suspends the account considering the transfer as “Spamming”.
2) The lock-down is not really for 48 hours as mentioned in the bright yellow notice but now it has been one month that my accounts have been suspended.
3) Yahoo help is a shame on the yahoo technical staff since whenever I complained about the matter, I was sent a template signed by one Mr. “George” which advises me to seek solution in the yahoo answers.
4) If I have to search for solutions in the yahoo answers it implies that either there is nothing like a “Yahoo technical staff team” which can read and solve the matter or yahoo doesn’t really care for the users and hence those who say YUCK to Gmail, please reconsider. All my three yahoo accounts are now locked for one one month dur to trueswitch and Yahoo has NEVER helped despite complaining repeatedly. Is this what you would call service?
I am quite amused to read your experiences but mine has been a disastrous one and I am really sorry but i cannot give full marks to yahoo for services. Any one who can help me lift the suspension since there is NO way I can get any help from yahoo.
Bakul.

I have been having trouble with my password failing and locking me out of my NTL email. I have now opened a yahoo email account, which was originally for keeping my name private after enquiries from companies, etc.
I would now like to have an additional account with my own name for contacting friends and family. I understand I can only have one Yahoo email account, so how do I have another account without switching between providers? Do I have to use Google or Hotmail for an alternate account, or is it better to wait for NTL to resolve the problem on my existing account with them?

I am not thick or stupid. However whenever I try to get a ymail or rocketmail site I am directed back to the existing yahoo site. This process is not user friendly – it sucks.

How do I get POP and SMTP configured?
David
Hi David,
To set up POP/SMTP with Yahoo! Mail, please see these help pages: http://help.yahoo.com/l/uk/yahoo/mail/classic/manage/index.html#pop. Remember you must have signed up under the UK Terms of Service, if you signed up under the US terms of service, you will have to sign up to Mail Plus.
