Greetings from Blog World
Lest you think that I have forgotten about you all. I don’t have any exciting news for you with this post, but if it is any consolation I am out trying to find ways to be a better blogger for you. That’s right, I am attending the Blog World and New Media Expo, where I’m trying to learn from some of the industry’s experts about all things blogging.
With any luck this will lead to some more screencasts, maybe some podcasts, and hopefully some more ways to make the most of the discussions going on in the comments sections.
I also wanted to offer a reminder. A couple weeks back I asked you longtime users to see if you had any fun or interesting stories about your experiences with Yahoo! Mail. I have already received a lot of great ones, but I would love to hear more.

Why do all news sources call China a communuist country? It is NOT. The name of their party is the Communuist Party but the gov’t form is not. Is the USA a Republican country?

Ryan:
Lest you think that I have forgotten about you: what’s going on at Yahoo mail? It seems to be down.
November 9th, 2007 at 3:31 am
Hi Ryan,
Do you guys know that Yahoo Mail has been down this morning, keep getting a Yahoo! – 404 Not Found. I have tried USA, Irish & UK Yahoo sites same on all here in Ireland.
Also please bring back the Mail button on the Yahoo.com page, over to the top left beside Home My Yahoo, I miss this so much.

I hate the new yahoo mail!! It ate my 90% of old untrashed mail and I haven’t been able to get it back. The old yahoo is great — what are you trying to do anyway? I don’t dare try to find the mail that disappeared for fear of causing more damage. JWH

your email is completely down, cannot access at all. You click on a link and it shows a progress bar then says done.
November 9th, 2007 at 10:15 am
You know what’s fun about Yahoo mail? Having dozens of errors and receiving only irrelevant form letter responses from customer “service”. That’s been a blast.
November 9th, 2007 at 11:30 am
No problems with Yahoo mail here at 14:30 EST (19:30 GMT). Ryan, can we get time stamps (GMT or PST or whatever) on these comments? Can we set these up so replies can be attached to a particular comment, like a topic thread?
November 9th, 2007 at 11:59 am
I don’t like the new yahoo mail because “it states you have like 30 unread mail and there is no thirty mails”. and the read box is so smal, if I wanted advertisments I would except pop-ups.
What I do like is “they tell you who is online in contacts”. They should have it in the classic mail and you get connected with your friends from there. I keep going back and fourth to see who is online.

ditto to previous comment

I agree…the new Yahoo looked good (at first), but is so slow, and I don’t like all the ads. It keeps trying to log me on messanger and I don’t want to connect to messenger (all the time). I’ve switched back to classic (guess it’s called that for a reason). Yahoo is great, but I don’t like the new version. Just putting my 2 cents in.

tried the “new” mail, immediately started giving me grief-like i didn’t have my resolution set high enough!..when i upped the resolution, the print ,and icons got smaller..
with the way these old eyes work,i don’t need to be squinting trying to rad my mail..
classic mail works fine for me..

I am new to the online business and just got my first instruction. As I saw the introduction it really made sense. Anyhow I am still a student and studying it step by step. I know it will take me valuable time to do this and learn. I wanted to make a comment made by Jean (Blogger on Nov. 9)
That the new yahoo mail does not allow users to use it effectively. It’s too much wording and having to choose and compare the other account messages by tying them all into one packed i page mail review. For me I rather stick with the classic. And the fine print of messages appear so tiny, maybe it isn’t working for those who wear glasses or is already having problems with vision. If I have to jump from one e-mail account to another then that works better for me. Besides, I never liked mixing my personal side with my business side. It’s a security thing I guess. Anyhow the classical way is better. It anyone wants to add their two cents in like Jean and I go ahead and hollar on this topic.
Good Luck to those who are on the new one.

I am new to yahoo, but changed to the new yahoo. It is always “down” and one HUGE frustration is that sometimes my emails (which need to be timely) take anywhere from an hour to 48 hours to reach the recipient! As a matter of face, just found out something I sent 4 days ago failed to send and was returned. Man, that one hurt! Why does this happen?
November 10th, 2007 at 6:15 am
Hey All! It is ‘Beta’… like, do not use until the programmers and techs have worked out the final program to be released. Never download or utilize “for real” the beta format. It will drive you crazy, confuse you, and ultimately cause you to run your PC to the repair center.
Omit… or navigate around any ‘Beta’ releases until the real deal is ready for sale, or replaces the current email system!

im okay w/ the new Yahoo, but im only having 1 problem my BFF from ACROSS THE WORLD keeps on sendin alot of msgs to me but i havent goton ANY of them!!! wut is the problem w/ that?!?!? you should really fix that problem
November 10th, 2007 at 8:01 am
I have received more disgusting inappropriate and dangerous spam since you switched to the new program. The old one worked so well, why change. The new ones takes twice as long, and is harder to read. It’s not just an inconvenience, like I said I’ve received so many spam fraud emails asking for money and information in the last little while since switching, I’ve never received any until now. I’ve never gotten gross messages about ED treatments and enlarging genitalia until now. Whatever is wrong please change back. I would hate to think these messages are also going to elderly or children who might not understand their fraud and sign up and give information.

Hello
Thank you for your Attention and reply to my message .I can’t speak english correctly after 1 century away my dear country .
Whereas belligerent and invasive government of Turkey attacked to Greece in 1915, and killed a lot of Armenian in Greece ,
I, MOHAMMAD SHAVICKLU, live in this country, Iran , as a captive under compulsion. This Turkish military attack made us immigrate inevitable to Iran and yet for us, survivor of Armenian martyrs, the reason of that attack of 1915 is not clear . Hereby, it is advertised that by no means, I am not satisfied living in Iran and the government caused this captivity, i.e. Turkey, or any other invader, should compensate for this long priod of time (since 1915) for my civil an legal rights which trampled by 1915 attack to Greece. Meanwhile, we, survivor of Armenian martyrs in 1915 Turkish attack to Greece , request toreturn to our dear country or impartial European coutry immediately and the government are caused of this compulsory immigration should be responsible for our problems and trampled legal rights. Also it is necessary to mention that the original documents and deeds while the Turkish attack and compulsory interring to Iran (illegal captivity), were stolen by the invaders and we have not any news about theme and the reason we have not yet perform any measures is that most of families were caused psychic and spiritual shock resulted from the invasion and after their some offspring generations, they were killed.Rest of the families was involved in their language changed and forget their original place of residence and their former affiliations and now only they know themselves as foreiners in this country. They offspring which survived from genocide and their children were exploited for hard and illegal labor against the least money not enough for food until they got mature for generate and it seemed they had shameless purposes about generation of these families. _After long time elapsed as of year, we, the survivors of 1915 of Armenian martyrs of Greece , request to return our trampled rights and freedom and to com back to our country, Greece .
It is necessary to notice that all SHAVIKLU families’ assets and wealth were stolen by the invaders and also the valuable assets were seized by force, costs for about 500,000,000/- dollars nowadays.

I WONDER WHY WE DONT HAVE A DAILY UPDATE OF ALL THE HOMELESS PEOPLE DAILY THAT LOST THEIR HOMES IN THE LA FIRES.
November 10th, 2007 at 1:27 pm
I’m beyond surprised to read, from comments to this and previous posts, that so many people are having problems with the new Yahoo mail — won’t work with Firefox, slow, “keeps logging on messenger by itself” etc. — because I’ve had the new version since the beta first came out (before that I had Y!mail for at least six years) and it’s caused me no problems whatsoever. I think that’s because the Universe just likes me way more than any of you la-hoosers. Here’s a theory: poor typing = bad Karma. Mwa-hahahaaaa. ;P
I give my greatest kudos to the spamguard. If anything, it has become more efficient. I can’t say if it’s the best in the world: I’ve never tried other webmail services because I have never felt the slightest need to. May that speak for itself.
Thank you very much, Yahoo, I’m enjoying the frak out of the new version.

i am being harrassed by spammers who are from the uk and africa and canada from yahoo sites . . .they are saying i won millions of dollars and they are demanding personal information. these are dangerous people and there is no way to unsuscribe from the emails i just have to delete them. they are using yahoo. they need to be stopped and arrested. i hope y’all can do something about this. bring it to the attention of people who can do something. or is there an email address i can forward these emails to who can bust these people? please let me knowe. thankyou.
November 10th, 2007 at 7:52 pm
I tried the new version briefly, did not like it, went back to the original, I’ve been with yahoo for many years, I’ll stick with the (clasic) original, it fits my needs just fine.
November 10th, 2007 at 8:38 pm

Would you care to let us know what other political parties in China besides the Communist party are active and able to have their people in office in that country?

Yeah I tryed the “new” Yahoo mail and ive been unable to do anything but watch as my inbox gets bigger and bigger. If I click on anything an error box pops up and thats the end of mail for me. 5,000 emails and no way to read it, oh and the classic mail button it would be great if it weree there to use…. November 11th 5AM
November 11th, 2007 at 3:58 am
Oh and dont bother emailing me because I won’t be able to read it anyways.
November 11th, 2007 at 5:41 am
Why when I click “My Yahoo” from the mail page does it open a new window now??? It never did that before. I hate having to use the back browser drop-down to get back to my main page. And, same thing someone else said, some emails show up right away, some take days, what is up with that? I have people sending me email to different addys now since we’re never sure if this one will work. Stupid stupid stupid.
November 11th, 2007 at 5:46 am
dude this wouldn’t have anything to with the fact that we are having less right to breath than yesterday?
November 11th, 2007 at 6:56 am

November 11th, 2007 at 7:29 am
Yahoo is starting to behave just like that — a bloody yahoo, or idiot, in things that are new. Why can’t we have our old format back ?
November 11th, 2007 at 8:16 am
Have been having different problems with new yahoo. Are you still working on it? Please hurry!
November 11th, 2007 at 11:32 am
Greetings from Croatia!
Overall, I like Yahoo’s services and have been using many of them for a long time now, so I guess you could say I’m a happy customer :)
This is my experience with the New Mail:
I’ve tried it way back when it first appeared, to try it out. It didn’t work, or to be more precise, it did work but very very slowly. I switched back to Classic and decided to wait for alpha version. Recently I’ve tried it again, in the midst of New Mail euphoria, and quickly switched back to Classic again. This time it was the same: too slow, takes too much time for anything to “happen”, and the computer sounds like a buldozzer while it’s digesting the new mail. I know it’s still Beta, and I know my computer is not the latest technological masterpiece (Cel. 1.7, runs on Win2K with 512 RAM), but I can see I’m not alone in the “it’s slow department”. I’m all for new things, but I think I’ll wait and see how New Mail develops and the user reviews once it goes alpha.
Until then, wishing you all the best in Yahoo’s development and thanks for bringing good free services to the public.

I have a large ‘rolodex’ which I synch on Yahoo to my Outlook file and Blackberry. Problem: the Yahoo Address Book won’t accept as many records as I have. Can I make it get larger?
November 11th, 2007 at 12:09 pm
I have also been having some problems with the new yahoo. I liked the old yahoo better, but if this is the way its going to be I guess I have to get use to it like everything else that has been change.
November 11th, 2007 at 1:00 pm
this is out of the ordinary..i am in my fifties, when i was younger retail stores were not opened on sundays and families spent the day as a family. now with everything opened on sundays there are no more togethernessin the families. therefore we have all kinds of crime..just because these kids are calling out for help or just some time with their families..
CLOSE RETAIL ON SUNDAYS……GO BACK TO CHURCH AND FAMILY…..
November 11th, 2007 at 1:22 pm
Very interesting comments – I read them all and I think my best thing to do is stay with Yahoo Classic – I am happy with it so good enough for me
Thank you for posting the comments of other users

The new Yahoo Mail sucks—I’m sticking with the old one.
November 11th, 2007 at 3:35 pm
I’ve gone back to the classic as well. Here’s one thing that really bugs me. When I want to send a message, I’d like to go to my contacts and just double click their email address and have it jump in the address line of the message without having that middle step. Anyone know what I mean?
I would like the window capability to view the message as you offer in the “new” version, but I just wish you’d add that to the Classic version.

I’m pretty satisfied with beta…I’ve had a problem with e-mails arriving later than sent….a good few hours afterwards, but once that was fixed I’m really having a good experience with the new Yahoo!
November 13th, 2007 at 5:59 pm
One thing that would help, when you flag an email for followup, change the background of the line to yellow so you could see them as you look at the list!
November 14th, 2007 at 8:06 am
i am receiving incoming emails no problems, but as of yesterday outgoing mails are taking 2-5+ hours to be recieved to the email address i am sending it to – is anyone else having this issue? and how can i fix it?

November 14th, 2007 at 11:01 am
I nabbed a Yahoo account years ago (10+ years ago) and did not use it because I preferred other sites at the time. And now I can’t remember its password :( I wanted to switch to Yahoo for my e-mail, too! People tell me to just make a new one, but that old ID is irreplacable =P As a software engineer, my temptation is “if only I had access to the datasource, then I could, at the least, update my zip code and birthdate fields so I can reclaim the password in case I don’t want to find the password-encrypting mechanism”. But, alas, I don’t have that access. =’(

Hey guy’s I been using Yahoo since 1998 so when it comes to changes and upgrades Ive seen them all. feb 2001 was the change that wrecked it all.
That was when they took away the free Pop access and I think right after that they launched what is now the Yahoo Classic. And of course they had there share of problems but they worked them out in what I thought was a very timely manor.
After all it is a FREE service and a very good one at that. When they were doing there total system overhaul in early 1999? An associate of mine was just starting to play the stock game and asked me what I thought was best Lycos or Google and of course my answer was Yahoo! because that was when everyone got scared because the Server’s were going on and off line and the stock dropped.
However if they had read the Email that was sent out which clearly stated that they were doing upgrades then they also would have been Yelling YAHOO! when it was all said and done.
So give them a break don’t keep blasting the helpdesk with things that were caused by the person between the chair and the keyboard first look in the help system faqs to see if your issue
is listed with a fix.
But if you do run into a technical issue or error
always try to capture as much info as possible, codes, error numbers, or whatever pops up it will make the transition much smoother if the techs are recieving accurate info because before you know it the new will be the old if its not already…Thanks Team Yahoo!

I’m pretty satisfied with beta… I am really having a good experience with the new Yahoo!
But i dont know I did not download pics & others material many times, pls tell me & make easy that very easily any body download any item.

The email delays are still in full force when sending POP mail from external clients like Entourage or Outlook. I emailed Customer Svc but we all know that’s a waste of time. Sending webmail seems to be just fine. If this problem isn’t fixed soon I won’t be renewing my Plus account.
December 13th, 2007 at 12:14 pm
Really like the new yahoo mail. It is very sweet. I love the fact i can talk on my messenger in my mail. I only get on pc while i am at work and we aren’t aloud to download messenger but i can still have it with the new mail.
December 14th, 2007 at 11:31 am
I love service yahoo easy because I Said I bin a friend to you
December 14th, 2007 at 1:20 pm
I agree with Kelly. I have gotten more gross and x-rated emails since the new yahoo mail has been in place. I flag them as spam and delete them but I never had this problem with the old mail. I also have a folder(that I did not create) in the folder section and I can not delete it no matter what I do. Help!!!
Folder shows as -> @G@Green
If I switch back to the old email format, the folder does not exist. I think this folder is part of my spam problem. Ryan can you check on this and get back to me or post here and I will look for your response.
Thanks

The new Yahoo sucks. I went back to the old one. I believe it was a Beta, I don’t know.
When i send pictures, it will pop up a message that that person does not have the same Yahoo. How do I tell what version ? I have so I can get my friends on the same one so i can communicate better.

I am struggling to leave Yahoo. Why does an ISP seem to have this stranglehold on our mail traffic?
May 7th, 2008 at 8:04 am
I got married really young, and had a bunch of kids by the time I was 25/ 26. Not only did I not quit and park myself in my kitchen, each kid pushed me to make changes in my career. I had three kids while in university. After the third was born I decided to get my first real job. The next one led me to quit and start my own biz. The next led me to discover and explore the world of blogging and social media, and turn my business into a social media marketing service provider.
