Yahoo! brings its Mail, Contacts, Instant Messaging and Calendar Sync to Apple’s New OSX Lion Operating System
If you’re purchasing a shiny new MacBook with the latest OS X Lion just released you’ll find a seamless integration with some of your favorite Yahoo! products. On OS X Lion, the first time you open up your Mail application, Lion will ask if you’d like to setup your Yahoo! account. Once set up, you will have access to your Yahoo! Mail, Yahoo! Contacts, Yahoo! Calendar, and Yahoo! Messenger (embedded in iChat) services. Here’s a bit more details on how the individual Yahoo! products play with the new operating system:
Yahoo! Mail: Send mail to your friends directly from Apple’s Mail application. With our Mail service you can access your entire mailbox and carry it anywhere you go. Read email on the web, on your phone, or on your MacBook and they all stay in sync.
Yahoo! Contacts: Yahoo! is the only partner that supports the tight contacts service integration with OS X. All the contacts in your Yahoo! Contacts automatically flow down to your MacBook. The contacts you add to your Apple Address Book are automatically backed up to Yahoo!.
Yahoo! Calendar: Using Yahoo! Calendar with Apple’s iCal service enables you to streamline your life effortlessly. Share calendars with your family and stay in sync with them across your Apple devices or other Yahoo! Calendar enabled devices.
Yahoo! Messenger: Quickly chat realtime with your friends using Apple’s iChat product shipped with OS X. See which of your Yahoo! Messenger friends are online and reach out to them right from your computer.
Set up Yahoo! services on OS X Lion and instantly make your MacBook yours. Carry your information anywhere you go, and never lose your data backed up by Yahoo!’s cloud services.

Bring your Gmail and Hotmail to Yahoo!
Are you tired of checking multiple accounts every time you check your email? Did you know you could check your Gmail and Hotmail accounts right from Yahoo! Mail?
With our external accounts feature you can pull your emails from any service that supports the POP protocol into Yahoo!. This functionality has been part of Yahoo! Mail for some time already, but we’ve recently added the ability to POP in your accounts from services that only allow SSL connections. If you tried setting this up in the past and were frustrated in your attempts, give it another try. If you haven’t tried this yet and would like to see all your emails in one place, we encourage you to set this up and make Yahoo! your one stop for email.
To set this up, go into Mail Options and click on “Accounts”. Then click “Add Account” and specify the POP server for the respective service. If the email provider only supports SSL connections make sure to change the port number to 995. See the screenshots below:
As always, tell us about your experience. We’d love your feedback.

Got an appointment or a hot date you can’t miss? Want to turn your iPhone into your personal assistant? For those of you who own an iPhone 3GS or below, and run iOS4, you can sync the appointments on your Yahoo! Calendar to the calendar on your iPhone in a few easy steps. Once activated, you’ll be able to add or find your appointments whether you’re running around with your iPhone, or if you’re visiting Yahoo! Mail or Yahoo! Calendar on your PC. Here’s what you need to do:
If you’re an existing user:
Settings->Mail/Contacts/Calendar->Your Mail Account
If you’re using Yahoo! Mail or Yahoo! Calendar for the first time:
Settings->Mail/Contacts/Calendar->Add Account->Yahoo->Enter your account info and click next.
For iPhone 4 users, you won’t need to do anything because the new phone software will automatically activate your Yahoo! Calendar once you sync your Yahoo! Mail. You can also sync your contacts to Yahoo! by using the CardDAV protocol. Visit this page to learn how to set this up.
Going forward, you’ll see more ways to access Yahoo! Mail features on all types of mobile devices, such as the iPhone and Android phones, to help organize your life. In fact, we’ve seen tremendous growth after we activated Calendar sync for the iPhone 4. Since the iPhone 4 launched in June, many users have jumped on board and activated their Yahoo! accounts on the new phone, and we expect more to follow:
Try it out, and tell us what you think.
