Change is in the air!

As some of you may have noticed, we’ve begun emailing service announcements about an upgrade to Yahoo! Mail. Yahoo! Mail Beta has been in the wild for 5 months and we’re almost ready to take off the Beta label.

Here are some questions you might have about the service announcement email:

How can I tell if it’s a legitimate email from Yahoo! versus spam?
Please look for the Yahoo! icon to the left of the “From” field in your inbox. We mark messages with this icon so that you know that they are real messages from us.

What do I have to do to upgrade?
Either click on the “Upgrade Now” button in your service announcement or just go directly to http://features.mail.yahoo.com to upgrade. Upgrading takes only a few seconds and you’ll be in the newest version of Yahoo! Mail right away.

Do I have to wait for my turn to upgrade?
Absolutely not! You can upgrade right now by going to http://features.mail.yahoo.com

How long do I have until I need to upgrade?
We will be rolling out this newest version of Yahoo! Mail over the coming months and we’ll remind you along the way to upgrade.

Why should I upgrade?

  • Here are some benefits of the newest version of Yahoo! Mail:

I would like to know when I will be able to embed graphics in the email message area. This is a crucial function for me in my business of Technical Documentation. Attaching the graphics many times is not an option for my clients.

Keep the old buttons at the TOP of the message as well as the bottom. Remember guys, TIME IS MONEY. This constant scrolling back and forth is costing me time, and may very well cost YOU money in the long run as we switch to a better email client.

I’m glad to see some progress with Yahoo!

A few things. You need to make it easier to turn on the preview pane. I had to enable individual pane scrolling to even make the preview button show up. Otherwise the button didn’t even exist.

Also, the top bar / search bar are is huge. By the time I turn on my preview pane and the To / CC message details, a lot of my screen is filled with the top bar and padding.

I like the design, but it needs to go on a little diet.

Furthermore, you guys should know the “Improve Yahoo! Mail” app doesn’t work at all. It just keeps trying to load and nothing happens.

    Keep up the great work.

    Thanks,
    Blake

Please put the delete etc. buttons at the bottom of the message as well as the top; scrolling back up is a pain.
And return the hide button for the ads on the right; vital information was unreadable from some commercial websites, partially hidden under the ads.

I agree with the above posters… Really Really need the viewing pane. I’m switching back because of the lack of that feature.

I did the upgrade and lost my preview pane and the spellchecker. What’s that all about? Also, it is definately not faster than the old version.

  6. Jeff says:

Please bring back the reading pane! I used this all of the time. Thanks.

I upgraded to the new yahoo mail and am unable to properly read my e-mail because Dodge advertisements cover the right side of the messages. I can’t find any way to close or move this annoying advertisement

(I can not find anyplace to send my comments, so I am posting it here). I would like to have the same buttons (delete, next…etc.) that are at the top of each mail also at the bottom. Then I don’t have to scroll or jump back to the top of each mail to move on.

    Thank you

    Hi

I would first like to say the new Yahoo! Mail Beta has a great design compared to the previous ones and I like it a lot. However I want to make a suggestion because of a detail that bothers me. To make this short: I don’t like the old style checkboxes. In my opinion they are too aggressive for the general smooth design of the website and I think they spoil it. I think these can be given a smoother shape to blend with the background and the rest of the controls.
I don’t know if this is the right place to make improvement suggestions but if it is not maybe you can give me some directions.

Thanks and have a great day!

If this is rolling out to users in the next few months and you’re sending emails to users telling them to upgrade to it, you should at least get it to support the Opera browser before it goes live. Opera support is a must, as it’s the default and sometimes only browser on some devices, and is the browser of choice of a segment of your user base.
