Readers might recall that back in the summer we released our first version of Yahoo! Mail for Android. We’ve been pleased with the success of both Yahoo! Mail and Yahoo! Messenger on the Android platform, but of course we never stop looking for ways to make the apps even better. To that end we’ve been reading all your suggestions, and polishing the app, leading up to today’s launch of the new Yahoo! Mail app in the Android Market. So what’s it all about?
- Multiple Accounts: Probably the biggest request we had from users was for the ability to add multiple Yahoo! Mail accounts. Well we heard you loud and clear! You can now add accounts and swap seamlessly between them.
- Photo Browsing: If you’ve used our mobile Web HTML5 site for iOS devices you’ll be familiar with our photo features. When you receive an email with photo attachments we give you a fast preview, right in the inbox.
- Mail, IM and Video: When you install Yahoo! Messenger on your device, you’ll be able to see the online presence of your contacts from within Mail. With one tap of a contact you can trigger a new message, view contact details, start an IM, and even begin a video call without ever leaving Yahoo! Mail.
- Contact Sync: You can now access your Yahoo! Contacts from your device contacts app with ease, wherever you are in the operating system.
You can visit the Android Market to download the apps to your phone today. Leave us a comment and tell us what you think, or send us feedback directly from the apps. We really do read every message, so if you have a great idea for the next version we’d love to hear about it!

Can you do a yahoo address book app? Months ago I tried to import yahoo addresses to my Android phone, it caused a lot of duplications and strange merging. I took it off by reformatting the phone. An app would be safer. TX
I uninstalled the yahoo mail app from my Android phone because it was always running in the background. Keep in mind I had updates and notifications shut OFF, so there was no reason for the app to be CONSTANTLY running in the background. Please consider the tax your app can put on the CPU and memory when you design your apps. I would rather have an app that takes longer to load than one that constantly taxes my system (and ultimately drains my battery) when I’m not using it.
Will you please release a Calendar App!
Can you in very near future introduce offline email access for Yahoo Mobile for Android app? That would be tremendous!
Presently only the Yahoo Mobile for i-phone has offline email access.
Thanks! :)
Okay … I see that version 1.2.1 is out and supposed to fix the issue … DAMN! – those folks in India are quick! They must not have worked for my former employer! ;-)
I’ll play with it a while and post further issues … at least it allows me to ready my ‘freemail’ account (at least, that’s the message the application now gives).
It would be great if you make calendar to sync with Android
Hello will you plz help me get my mail TY for 2 wks i have been loosing ALL my mail what is going on plz, when i sign on to yahoo it will tell me i have 21 messages & when i go to mail there is MAYBE 2 in there?? HELP ME KNOW PLZ & TY VERY MUCH
These are great improvements.
I had one problem though. I have a yahoo mail plus account. After the upgrade to 1.2.0, I can’t access my email account. I get an error message stating that “sorry, bizmail accounts are not supported”
The previous version worked fine.
I really enjoy the new features and hope to see many growthing things forward. I’m a really big fan of Yahoo!Mail.
I just do not understand why you only remember of Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, but never talks about the Opera browser. Please put Opera in your list and make Yahoo!Mail compatible with Opera browser too. Thanks!
What about blackberry???!!!!?!?!?!
Hey, that is a big improvement. Now that I can send from different accounts I will now be able to use it. I had deleted the prior version due the lack of this feature.
It would be good to be able to turn the sound and vibrate alerts off independently. At the moment it is all or nothing.
a filter that allows you to only download mail from selected folders, without having all the spam take up valuable memory on your phone
