Happy New Year! – Let’s meet the new kid

Hello, and a belated happy new year to everyone. My name is Andrew Molyneux. I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself and let you know that I’ll be continuing as editor of the Yahoo! Mail Blog.

So who am I and why am I here? Well, let me give you a brief synopsis… First and foremost, I live and breathe Yahoo Mail, and you’d be hard pressed to find someone more passionate about Yahoo! Mail and our users than I. I’ve been working for Yahoo! for the last 3 years and Yahoo! Mail specifically for the past 2 years as a program manager and customer champion for Europe, as well as authoring the UK Mail Blog.

And even though I’m based here in Europe, I’m originally from the US. I’m an East coast kid at heart, a Philly boy (Go Eagles!!). But I’ve been living in the London with my wife for the last 3.5 years and just recently moved to Switzerland to work at our new European headquarters – Yodelayeehoo!

I’m going to continue Ryan’s great work in communicating all that’s great about Yahoo! and Yahoo! Mail. I will keep you informed of what our team is doing to deliver you the best mail experience there is. There is lots of good stuff in store for this year, and I hope you’ll keep coming back to see what’s new.

All the best for the New Year.

I am in complete agreement with “me”…

Andrew! Wake up… we’re talking here… and some of us bother paying for this service…

WE WANT IMAP FOR FREE! JUST LIKE GMAIL HAS.

  2. me says:

Ok, now hopefully you will give people what they want… IMAP for FREE. We want IMAP so we can use apple mail and outlook. We don’t want to use that zimbra thingy, if we can only use that, why not just use your web browser. We want to be able to choose which program we want to use and still use the other features of yahoo like answers and such.
This would be a great improvment! If its not available soon, I’m thinking of getting a gmail account where I CAN get IMAP for free.

Happy New Year, and hope you can give us this…

  3. jim says:

your mail sucks on my web page works half the time

  4. Bert says:

Maybe I am the exception, but I do not like forced changes. I am perfectly happy with the layout the way it was and do not care for the “new and improved”. I also do not like the fact that we get “forced” into taking the new look, there is no choice!!
Please get me back to where I was.

    Thanks,

    Bert

I think this program is great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Dan says:

When will mail search be able to return results that are more than a few months old like it used to? If the search can’t find e-mails from last July, then it’s broken. It doesn’t work. When will it be fixed? Thanks.

  8. J. Hsu says:

How to create sub-folder in the new Yahoo email ?
Could you add this feature as soon as possible?

  9. Fed Up says:

Hard at work on our IMAP Andrew?

Are you even employed there anymore?

Q: “What would you say do you here….?”
A: “I take the specifications from the customers to the engineers”…..

Explains a lot about Yahoo’s current sad state….

  10. Fed Up says:

Looks like Andrew hit the snooze button again…

Explains a lot about YMail’s current sad state doesn’t it?

  11. tikazss says:

wow! its olmost d end of january…n yahoo seems so far soo gudlah…..i rely hope dat theres website dat provides free music, games n evrytin withot wooryin bout d virus n d terms n conditions…

  12. Fed Up says:

Wake up from your nap Andrew!

    You’re a “one post wonder”!

You haven’t posted anything since your “hello” message….
You haven’t even bothered to respond to a single one of the 100+ comments in response to your post….

Meet the “new” boss…. same as the “old” boss.

I’m not impressed…. and if you’re the “best” the YMail team has to offer, YMail is done, kaput, through….

  13. Fed Up says:

    Great work Andrew!

No response to the fact that you haven’t responded to a single comment yet?

Keep it up! Make us YMail users proud! We’re glad you’re in charge!

  14. annoyedpayinguser says:

Maybe you can help fix the problem that prevents Safari users from accessing their Yahoo Business Mail. This is enough to drive a person insane.

  20. don says:

I would like to simply tag multiple e-mails and drag them to my hard disk. thus removing them from yahoo. I do not need links to stay active, just the body of the email.

  21. gc says:

I hope you check and respond once in a while to the yahoo mail group. there is a lot of useful feedback there that should be implemented to make yahoo a stronger competitor in email. Jsut b/c it has more people doesn’t mean that it is the best product (b/c i think most people would agree it is not). I feel the main reason most people stay with any email provider (as long as it is not total crap) is because the move to a new email address is annoying.

Anyway, in short, yahoo mail should be trying to improve at a fast pace to exceed/keep up with competitors. There are obviously great info and products in your reach (ideas: from us and yahoo groups and others, tech from: Zimbra and your current development team). let’s see those features implemented on yahoo webmail soon!

  22. Fed Up says:

His job is to make one post and not respond to any threaded comments….

  23. Fed Up says:

Maybe GMail is hiring away the talent?

  24. Fed Up says:

    Wow Andrew…

I can see that YMail really cares… You haven’t bothered to respond to a single comment on this thread… which has in excess of 100 comments.

At least Ryan responded… and who knows where he is now…

Check that… he’s probably using GMail’s free IMAP on Outlook or Apple Mail.

    Great start!

  30. Lawrence Shields says:

What’s all this new stuff when yahoo can’t even sort my email into folders I set up. Come now even the last blog agreed Yahoo mail sort does not work and send to spam is a joke when you get the same email the next day in your regular mail. So instead of fixing the greatest Email on the planet they gee wiz you with “new” stuff how ironic. My ash tray is full shall I get a new car to fix it? My email is full of crap that belongs in folders as it comes in and spam that was told the day before to stay out shall I get a new Email provider to fis it?

  31. Bruiser says:

All this “Connections” crud is killing my Yahoo experience. I’m slowly migrating to GMail.

Welcome to the beginning of the end Andrew.
