Photo Fun (and Flashbacks) with the New Apps in Yahoo ! Mail

As you may have seen, this week we announced the limited beta launch of applications in Yahoo ! Mail. This means that we are bringing your favorite Web sites and services right into your inbox. These applications will allow you to communicate, share and get more done within Yahoo ! Mail.
Over 60% of attachments in Yahoo ! Mail are photos, so I am especially excited about our new photo sharing applications. We’ve been working closely with Xoopit to make browsing and sharing photos from Yahoo ! Mail easy. Their application allows you to browse through all the Flickr, Picassa, Shutterfly, Kodak Gallery and attachment photos you have, right in your inbox. I’ve had my Yahoo ! Mail account for over eight years, so when I activated the Xoopit application, I rediscovered and shared photos of my Halloween costume from 2002! (Madonna, circa the 80’s, in case you were wondering).
Here are the apps that our limited beta users are trying out now:
- Family Journal: build a family tree inside Yahoo ! Mail and easily share with relatives.
- Flickr: share Flickr photos with friends and family right from the inbox.
- Flixster: share movie show times, trailers and reviews instantly from the inbox.
- WordPress: post photos, links, and more from the inbox to a WordPress blog.
- Xoopit: see and share all the photos stored in email, including attachments and links to photo sharing sites, in one organized ‘photo view’ of the inbox.
- Yahoo ! Greetings and American Greetings: use the autocomplete email address feature to send an ecard seamlessly from Yahoo ! Mail.
We’re in limited beta right now, but please stay tuned as we start to give more of you access to these applications. You can sign up here to be on the waitlist.

When the next version of Y! Mail goes final, will there be options to turn off interactions with these applications? All I want is to simply check email. I don’t care for this other stuff (and I wish Y! would let everyone use email clients to check mail instead of Y! Plus users…).

POP3 is not suitable to do dynamic things. They keep on ignoring the need for IMAP in todays World without any kind of reason.
December 21st, 2008 at 7:50 pm
I agree with you. I want to make these things GO AWAY – I pay extra money to have email without spam, I don’t need this “Connection” stuff! Give us options.
December 29th, 2008 at 3:55 pm
I don’t know why spam is always in the computer.
January 11th, 2009 at 5:13 am

As an FYI to yahoo mail users who do not like the new connections features, a user on another blog post figured out there is an off switch.
Just go to Mail Options>General Preferences and then uncheck the box for the service. It should go away, but if it doesn’t try clearing the browser cache and refreshing, to be sure your browser uses the new version.
It worked for me. Someone said it didn’t work when they tried it tho, that it came back. Since that is a known bug with Yahoo Groups to reset you periodically to “New and Improved” (har-de-har har) message style, its quite plausible this feature may also be bugged and revert to ‘on’ from time to time. YMail is hit n miss like that (messenger interface anyone?)
January 15th, 2009 at 2:58 pm
I accepted a friends invite to “connect” – Now i am bombarded with names to either Invite or remove – i have removed hundreds already and most of them i dont even know – they say these suggestions are based on those I e-mail frequently and that is not so. It is driving me crazy and now the same two names are there all the time and i have tried to delete them several times? – anyone else have this problem?
Thanks

Will this new mail (and apps) work with Firefox running on Linux?
December 20th, 2008 at 5:27 am
Yup it does…Just shows a warning..:) I liked it. But when i revoke permission does Xoopit will delete all data they have about my mails ?
I am seriously concerned about privacy here.
December 22nd, 2008 at 12:19 pm
You can remove/revoke permission to Xoopit by visiting the Account Settings area of Yahoo! Mail (https://api.login.yahoo.com/WSLogin/V1/unlink), and we will be streamlining this process in the new year.
Thanks for the comments!

December 19th, 2008 at 3:05 pm
Xoopit causes the Yahoo Mail new mail count to reset to 0 every time it scans your mail.
I’m hoping that isn’t the desired behavior as it makes the new mail count wrong periodically.
December 22nd, 2008 at 12:20 pm
We have an open bug on the Yahoo! side to resolve this message count resetting. Thanks for reporting the issue!

Apps Rock! Great Job. I cannot wait for more to be built. Xoopit and Wordpress apps both really have already improved my experience. It is really convenient.
December 19th, 2008 at 5:34 pm
What does this mean??
“Your use of these third–party applications means that the application developers will be able to access and store your email message content and any other personal information that you provide to the application.”
As a Beta tester, you will be asked to provide feedback on the tools and overall experience. You will also receive system–generated emails from Yahoo! with important info about the test.
Your use of these third–party applications means that the application developers will be able to access and store your email message content and any other personal information that you provide to the application. Please click here for more info about using applications on Yahoo!.
December 21st, 2008 at 7:15 pm
I’m pretty sure that first part is simply a formality, reminding you that for these apps to work they have to be able to see what’s in your account. It’s common anywhere that 3rd party apps are used.
The email thing is just letting you know that by participating you may get some additional email messages asking you for feedback (so you don’t think you are suddenly getting spammed or something).
3rd part is just another way of reminding you that to get the added functionality of an app you may need to allow them to see your personal email stuff.

i am simply blown away by the Xoopit and Wordpress experience within Yahoo mail. Xoopit app was an eye opener for all the wonderful things possible within a mail client.
When do you’ll plan to add
1) Xobni as an application
2) Twitter and Facebook apps within Yahoo mail.
Also, the app beta seems to have turned off vitality updates on my connections. Does participating in this beta exclude the vitality/connection updates feature.

Hi.
It’s my first time on Yahoo! Mail blog and it looks very preety and nice what you’ve done here.
I would like to express my opinion about Yahoo! Mail.
Yahoo! Mail is great but I don’t like the thing with the Yahoo! Mail Plus.
I don’t care of seeing advertises on my email and I don’t need any POP or IMAP for using Yahoo! Mail but the storage for sending files (10MB) is too little.
If you wana use Yahoo! Mail Plus so say there would be like 30MB or more but not 20MB because with 10MB you can send very little things and there are people who can’t afford the Yahoo! Mail Plus enhancement.
Think about it.
December 30th, 2008 at 9:20 pm
oh my gosh. im totally with you…
this is my first time too on Yahoo!mail blog and i like what is eing done. im 14 years old and i just started a yahoo mail a couple months ago and have descovered that you guys have come a long way and doing great but i just hope that you soon help make us some new stuff to make our yahoo page look really cool!! that would be great… thanx a lot!

Can somebody give us an update as to when the search function on Y! Mail will be fixed? It has been broken for MONTHS and despite being a PAID CUSTOMER I have had no luck with customer “care.”
December 22nd, 2008 at 11:59 am
It’s great to have all of the new capabilities, but at what cost?? How many eyes are viewing my activity without my knowledge?? It really concerns me that my feelings of secure communications have been compromised without my knowledge/permission. How about asking permission first? I’m sure you will understand when I ask for your personal data for my files……RIGHT???
December 22nd, 2008 at 12:24 pm
Thank you for the comment.
We have endeavored to keep it very clear when these new features are accessing your private and personal information. None of the applications have access to your personal data automatically, you need to either a) drag-and-drop a message onto the application, or b) click on the application and provide data to it.
We have worked hard to make sure they are not viewing your activity without your knowledge, but based on your comment, we still need to make that fact more apparent.
Thanks again.

Great to know, Mark. Its sad that other Yahoo products are not making this kind of effort, notably the profiles team.
December 23rd, 2008 at 6:40 am
Yahoo’s got nothing to say about IMAP because if they told the truth, we’d all find out that it’s never coming to a “Client near you”….
Look at all the effort that they’re spending on these apps…It’s the old “Guns and Butter” situation… You can have guns, or you can have butter, but you can’t have both.
Yahoo is no different. I can’t believe that anyone at Yahoo really believes that Zimbra is an adequate solution for IMAP. I mean, how can you think that when it works when it feels like it. A dedicated client for email… that say’s Yahoo on it? Let me know when Google does something similar. If they did that, they’d be the laughing stock of the techies… Could you imagine: Now presenting the “Chrome browser locked to GMail IMAP”…. It’s disappointing.
December 23rd, 2008 at 10:21 am
it doesn’t work on my computer. On others…but not on mine. I’ve tried other browsers. If this is a computer issue, i can’t get a new one! Help!

January 5th, 2009 at 5:51 pm
Why does Yahoo think that all of their apps and features will be liked. Why don’t they give their members choices. I get sick and tired of them flashing stuff on my screen that I don’t care about and cannot remove? Apparently the employees at Yahoo have no idea that there is a life outside of Yahoo. Yahoo does their share of dumbing-down their members. Do thy know there are such things as books? Don’t allow Yahoo to turn you into an Android. They are keeping you stuck on stupid. It’s no wonder that our education system in the US has been an absolute failure.
December 23rd, 2008 at 2:48 pm
Stephanie and Ryan-
May I suggest that you put an ongoing poll up on the blog and list various features that have been mentioned in the comments. Then let the users vote for the features they feel would best enrich their YMail experience and publish the results. The feedback would be useful to all of us wouldn’t it?
December 24th, 2008 at 5:31 am
When will Yahoo Mail get to providing IMAP? It’s not even available for the paid MailPlus option. This is one of the biggest factors keeping me away from MailPlus.
December 25th, 2008 at 8:10 am
Obviously you fixed something that wasn’t broke. All I know is my e-mail service is terrible and I am trying to figure out how to get rid of yahoo.
December 25th, 2008 at 10:56 am
In order to make Yahoo! to be on top of the game again,
1. PROVIDE FREE IMAP, like Gmail does
2. MAKE YAHOO! MAIL TO LOAD FASTER
3. GET RID OF ANYTHING THAT WILL INVADE PEOPLE’S EMAIL PRIVACY, like installing 3rd party applications like these.
December 26th, 2008 at 7:49 pm
AGREE WITH BUTTERFLY;
“1. PROVIDE FREE IMAP, like Gmail does
2. MAKE YAHOO! MAIL TO LOAD FASTER
3. GET RID OF ANYTHING THAT WILL INVADE PEOPLE’S EMAIL PRIVACY, like installing 3rd party applications like these.”
And I’ll add a fourth;
Give us the choice between Email or social networking. I agree with don, if I wanted social networking, I’d go to MySpace.com. I come to Yahoo! to read and send mail, period!
December 26th, 2008 at 6:07 am
its great , merry christmas
December 26th, 2008 at 7:32 am
I am in full agreement with BUTTERFLY. Well said.
December 26th, 2008 at 12:28 pm
How are they supposed to do all that when they cannot even fix the problems they are having right now. There are tons of people who are having trouble with Yahoo Email, yet Yahoo is doing nothing about it! I don’t care how much trouble it will be, but I’m switching over to Gmail!!!
December 26th, 2008 at 1:16 pm
One thing that I’d really like is a larger attachment size limit. Files have grown bigger and bigger, but Yahoo’s limit has been 10MB for some time now and 20MB for Plus… It’s been progressively more and more difficult to stay under that limit when sending attachments as the size of files grows and grows due to higher resolution audio and photos, even more so when they are included as part of regular documents. Yahoo Mail is not adjusting for this “Data Inflation”.
Yahoo’s already given us “Unlimited Storage”. I would hope that they could also increase the attachment size limit.
What do you think Stephanie and/or Ryan?
December 27th, 2008 at 1:29 am
It is all true.
You just have to increase this attachment size limit because it is just not fair and it is too low.
December 27th, 2008 at 4:35 am
I have a problem when yahoo shutdown on me and when I had to re-register with yahoo It cause me to lose a lot of personal pictures and messages I had stored . How am I able to restore what has been taken from me these are pictures and messages they mean the world to me most of them are pictures of my very first grand daughter born July 1 st . Can somebody help me this is very discouraging .
December 27th, 2008 at 2:09 pm
NO THANKS…………I WANT THE OLD YAHOO BACK,,,,,,,,,,,,THE NEW ONE SUCKS
December 31st, 2008 at 12:22 am
yea… pull out the backup tapes from 2 years ago and reload.
December 28th, 2008 at 8:12 pm
I agree with the comments about the attachment limit….
GMail gives 20MB attachment capability…. for free….
Is there some reason that Yahoo has to charge for Mail Plus to match this? Because otherwise, you only get 10MB attachment capability with YMail…
With the way that files are growing, Yahoo just isn’t keeping up with the times.
December 29th, 2008 at 12:42 pm
My e-mail is a mess! Left hand side of the screen is huge – and e-mail side not adequate. Tired of your invasive advertising. Under your old system I have been able to get messages while travelling – a wonderful convenience. You have complicated communications terribly and the screen is full of extraneous junk. How many other seniors have complained about this? What are my options? Mary Ellen
December 29th, 2008 at 12:56 pm
IMAP, IMAP, IMAP
That’s all we want. Not photo sharing, social networking, etc.
IMAP! Please!
December 29th, 2008 at 1:03 pm
I agree with Benzo completely.
December 29th, 2008 at 2:48 pm
The inbox 2.0 will never be your dreamed social network gathering 275 million users…obviously it does not work and certainly will not in the future if you don’t fix the invitation model that requires a Yahoo! account on the invitee side.
it’s astonishing how you simply don’t get it.
Yahoo! is not strong enough a brand to require a Yahoo! account to be connected . Admit it, you’re way below Facebook in terms of social network, way below Gmail in terme of…email
Asking once again: are we opened or closed here? Do you want to repeat the same mistakes that were done with 360 ?
Observing your lack of reaction in front of your readers’ demands – IMAP – and the highly hypocrisy of this “open” blog, i’m afraid i will have to cancel my mail plus subscription – a “premium” service that – can you believe it? – has not evolved at all since its launch in November 2002.
I’m just amazed, what ’s difficult to understand here ? Do you realize that you’re on the highway to actually “lose” loyal mail users here ?
I’m not sure that that’s what Yang had in mind when demoing the inbox 2.0 last January.
Just wake and listen !

[...] check out the yahoo blog post on the new application features that are being introduced in Yahoo! mail. There are seven applications which are available for the beta users to try out, and i find Xoopit (pulls up photos out of your mails and shows them together) the best of the lot. Greetings and WordPress applications also add to the occasional convenience. [...]
December 30th, 2008 at 1:23 pm
This is so hopeless….
GuillaumeB is exactly right. Yahoo doesn’t realize that if it loses users, it won’t matter if anyone is connected, because no one will be on YMail to care. I can’t believe that Yahoo thinks that social networking is what will keep users around.
Hello? Is this thing on? Anyone home?
Just another day without IMAP…

yahoo has been going steadily down hill… first it was photos… 360 never has really worked well (and now they’re blocking youtube embedding), you can now select ascii text for default email… but it’s ignored and you get that graphic editor regardless of what you select as default… and this last week users were getting HUNDREDS of duplicates from Yahoo Answers which took them days to fix.
the software that was running 2 years ago was better and more reliable.
January 1st, 2009 at 9:23 pm
Ya’h Mr.Brooks your so right and don’t forget the Toolbar that has never worked right. I had to get rid of it,
It’s looking like time to get rid of yahoo as well I’m afraid. Tradgic !
December 31st, 2008 at 9:18 am
I have long defended Yahoo mail, even in these forums. I think I am finally on board with all of the nay-sayers. I actually like the apps that have come out, but Yahoo still lacks what other services have. Yahoo mail must be targeting younger people with the social stuff. They took away RSS, and there is still no attachment management or office program support. I opened a gmail and windows live account just to compare. Really, windows has everything. Office live, photo sharing that is just photo sharing (not all the extra non-usable stuff of flickr) and better RSS support. It is way better suited to the person who uses their email professionally. I am going to switch even though it sucks. I didnt mind going through the growing pains with yahoo, but they are so tight-lipped about what new products and current product improvements are coming that I just am afraid to wait for nothing. I wish I could also let my stock go, but it will probably be a while for that. Yahoo is following AOL and it sucks.
December 31st, 2008 at 10:42 am
JakeS is exactly right…
At this point, I think AOL is actually better… and I used to make fun of AOL… but AOL, the “Walmart” of the internet actually has real IMAP which isn’t locked to a proprietary client….

Honestly… From the lack of responsiveness about IMAP among other things, I can’t even tell.

Yahoo’s made a big deal about their Yahoo! Open Strategy : http://ycorpblog.com/2008/10/28/were-open-have-at-it/
Locking IMAP access to one client: Zimbra, isn’t much of an “open strategy” in my opinion….

Is it possible to keep the email sites simple and easy to use? Yahoo seems to be one of the easiest sites to use but I get trounced with spam so much that I don’t even want to open up my email anymore. The spam filters used to work okay, but it seems like they’re almost non-existent anymore.

THIS BLOG IS DEAD!
There hasn’t been new post by Yahoo since December 19th, 2008. That’s two weeks!
Is anyone awake on the Yahoo Mail team? Hey! Are you guys doing anything there? Is there any product development going on? Some of us pay for this service you know….
Real IMAP (not this Zimbra junk) would be nice if you’re not too busy with targeting the 11 year olds with these useless Apps. How about an IMAP app? Yeah, that’s the ticket. I want an IMAP app… Oh wait… That’s Zimbra…. Silly me.
Hello? Is this thing on?
January 5th, 2009 at 1:32 pm
I agree. Been waiting for new info for two weeks. I also pay for this service and its not getting much attention lately…

January 6th, 2009 at 11:05 am
On Yahoo Mail, one doesn’t seem to have the choice between POP Mail and Forwarding. It seems that you can either do POP, or Forward a message to another account, but not both. If I’m wrong on this then tell me. It would be nice to check mail through POP and also forward it to another account at the same time. It appears that this can be done in Gmail.

Think of all the Yahoo Mail users. Think of how many click on the Help button. Then think of how many could see the word “Blog” there. Then think of how few actually post on this blog. It’s astonishing how DEAD this Blog is! There hasn’t been a post from Yahoo Mail in over 2 weeks either! Are you guys awake over there?
Maybe you should put the BETA tag back up after you wake up from your nap.
January 6th, 2009 at 1:59 pm
My Yahoo.com page says I have 4 new mails. I don’t. I keep getting alerts saying I have 4 new emails. I don’t. Why did I delete that great Gmail ID I had? I don’t..know.
January 6th, 2009 at 4:22 pm
FIx the mail filters NOW!!!
January 6th, 2009 at 4:25 pm
Yahoo is finished! Completely unresponsive – mail filters do not work!!! They do nothing. How about fixing them you clowns!
January 6th, 2009 at 4:49 pm
Still censoring me?
January 7th, 2009 at 6:43 am
This is crap. I go on my iPod Touch this morning and can’t even log on to mail due to the imap confliction with Yahoo. Yahoo shouldn’t have tried to make us pay $19.99 per month for access. This sucks. I am cancelling my Yahoo email address soon. It’s all about direct sales with Yahoo…haven’t they learned that indirect advertising is the way to go and could easily support the mail application on Apple Products with a few simple ads when logging into the application? Idiotos!
January 7th, 2009 at 2:08 pm
By the way, isn’t it 19.99/year instead of 19.99/month for Mail Plus?
January 7th, 2009 at 3:57 pm
For my money I hope Verizon takes all of those applications right out of my inbox ang gives me a plain old boring desktop inbox I can actually use. LOL
January 8th, 2009 at 11:39 pm
No problem. Sign in with your Yahoo! ID to get started. Linking is super easy and you can keep your MyBlogLog screen name.

January 9th, 2009 at 11:54 am
Still no word from Yahoo’s Mail Team….
They’re going on three weeks now without a new post on this Blog….
Guess there’s not much going on there…
It’s disappointing… I feel like Yahoo’s response has been:
“Your email works doesn’t it?”
It’s almost like the old VW bug ad which said:
“0 to 60… Yes”
Tell me Tell me Yahoo… when will the next useless app surface? There are a lot of 11 year olds out there who care about this more than IMAP.
January 10th, 2009 at 10:00 am
No updates to this page in 3 weeks. That link to sign up has been broken from the start- it says OOPS in it. This is sad stuff.
January 10th, 2009 at 10:04 am
PS- dont believe me?
“You can sign up HERE to be on the waitlist.”
The HERE is a hyperlink that reads “http://overview.mail.yahoo.com/oops.”
So you click on it and it says “Sorry, the page you requested was not found.”
Repeated mails pointing this out go ignored. As usual.
January 10th, 2009 at 12:07 pm
Yahoo Mail should not make the mailbox more social. If there are links to another yahoo page that has all the social stuff in it, that’s fine. However, e-mail is email, and it should just stay that way. If you want to enhance email, that’s great, but just leave the main concept untouched. If yahoo wants to create a new social experience, maybe that should NOT be wrapped around an existing and mature email system. It should start as a new concept and build up.
Don’t just try to take a good product like yahoo mail, and wrap it with some stuff isn’t strongly related and expect it to do well. If anything, i think you will alienate existing customers who want to support yahoo, but are struggling for reasons why. I’ve been trying to convince people yahoo mail is still a good product, but with steps that gmail and even microsoft are taking, it’s tough for me to stay with yahoo mail much longer. The only reason I stay with it is b/c I don’t want to change email addresses … I’m not staying b/c yahoo mail is the best free email service out there. I think most people would agree.
January 10th, 2009 at 5:06 pm
Good points, with one exception:
You said: ” I’ve been trying to convince people yahoo mail is still a good product….”
Why are you doing that? It’s clearly not. The “premium” features cost money, and it lacks the important features that other email services provide. IMAP being one of them…
(If I hear Zimbra one more time, I will go into orbit… It’s not real IMAP Yahoo… it’s a cop out.)
Lemme ask the YMail team this: Do you really need our 20 dollars per year for the premium services anymore? Is Yahoo’s business doing so poorly that you can’t make up 20 dollars somehow for the paltry feature set that you offer? It’s not like you have IMAP to support like Google does…
January 11th, 2009 at 12:50 am
wish-list for 2009:
More personalisation for yahoo mail
and the option to sync yahoo calendar with your mobile phone
thx :)
January 11th, 2009 at 11:29 am
Cell phones are now cameras, organizers, phone books etc…
Yahoo combining various products and services is a great idea.
The future of Yahoo is great, congratulations on your new ideas.

Yahoo’s lack of posts is hard to explain…. but here’s what I think…
I think that Yahoo Mail is in real trouble…. There’s probably a lot going on behind the scenes that doesn’t bode well for the company’s operations or its Email feature set….
They’re on their way to 4 weeks without a new post in the blog…
Yahoo is all intensive purposes: “Dead”….
Jerry Yang ran the company into the ground. We happen to be stuck with the email service in the misguided hope that a failed company would have a decent email service that implements features that its users want….
AM I THE ONLY ONE IN THE WHOLE USA THAT WANTS REAL IMAP FROM YAHOO?
January 12th, 2009 at 6:57 pm
Still nothing….
Hello? Is this thing on? Does YMail pay attention to this thing anymore?
It is called the YMail Blog after all…
January 13th, 2009 at 8:40 am
Another day… Another day without any kind of communication from the YMail team on anything!
Is there even a YMail team anymore? We can’t tell! You don’t seem to be doing much of anything. You haven’t posted anything in nearly 4 weeks.
As I said before: YMail is dead in the water.
Prove me wrong. Roll out IMAP.
I’m frankly amazed that YMail still works because there doesn’t seem to be anyone at the helm.
January 13th, 2009 at 11:05 am
idk what everyone is talking about but i wanna join the conversation so wats up?????
January 13th, 2009 at 11:40 am
It looks like everything at Yahoo has shut down. The YProfiles blog hasn’t had anything posted there in a month now either.
I’m with you FedUp. I’d like real IMAP with Yahoo Mail as well. Doesn’t look like I’ll need it though, since it appears that I’ll be moving to GMail with the way Yahoo has been handling things.
January 14th, 2009 at 8:41 am
What is up with all the weird “email-like” messages on this Blog? Is something wrong with James Vaglia’s email account?
Do you care YMail? Are you even there to care? This is on your YMail Blog…
You guys can’t even run a Blog… why should we expect better from you on anything else?
That’s right… I’m one of a select few who even bother to post. The rest have already given up.
January 14th, 2009 at 7:32 pm
sure seems like i’ll have to wait till march
So lets have had it
January 15th, 2009 at 7:52 am
Im not using the beta photo application but just rec’d this email message:
to accept it (the error message is reproduced below). This type of error
is usually due to a mis-configured account or mail delivery system on the
destination computer; however, it could be caused by your message since some mail systems refuse messages with invalid header information, or if they are too large.
Your message was rejected by f.mx.mail.yahoo.com for the following reason:
delivery error: dd Sorry your message to XXXX@yahoo.com cannot be
delivered because it is too large. – mta681.mail.mud.yahoo.com

I dunno, Ive been sending photos in ymail for years and I receive lots in one email. These photos wherent that large!
January 15th, 2009 at 7:54 am
hey how did that lady get in my photo above? thats not me!
January 15th, 2009 at 8:20 am
can someon explain why sylvias photo is on my account? or a link to what the problem might be?
she writes where i write but her URL is not my URL – thanks!
January 15th, 2009 at 8:43 am
Hopefully Yahoo’s new CEO (Brantz) knows what IMAP is… Jerry Yang clearly didn’t, and it showed. Zimbra? Please….
But when the YMail blog gets in such disarray, it shows that there’s not a lot of attention being paid to the service. Why even have a Blog?
Still nothing to report YMail? Going on 4 weeks without a post now…
You have to understand, the people who post are the ones who actually care.

If we don’t want Yahoo mail on the desktop do we need like login.verizon.yahoo.net on the desk top? I’m curious when Verizon plans to let us know what our new email settings will be?

I loved idea of beta mail with new apps. I tried to use it. Let me start by saying that I am iPhone user and satisfied with Yahoo mail and iPhone combo. However, I noticed that after switching to beta whatever changes I make on Yahoo mail (places emails into folders, etc) did not reflect on my iPhone. The only reason I can come up with it must be beta version. So I discontunued using it. Sux, but until the problem is fixed I will stay away from using it.
January 26th, 2009 at 5:59 pm
Great work Yahoo! You’re really on the ball with this one.
You can’t even get IMAP to work on the devices that you’ve locked it to.

All I want to do is put a photo of mine on a Yahoo! Mail email. Why can’t you improve the simple things first?
