Attention: Maintenance work – you may experience service problems

Due to an unplanned power equipment issue at one of Yahoo’s third-party co-location facilities, a small portion of Yahoo! services and features may be temporarily unavailable. Our provider is working expeditiously to complete the maintenance, which we expect to last a few hours.

What this specifically means for Mail users is that some of you will be unable to access your Yahoo! Mail for several hours this evening, and others will experience delays in email delivery.  Additionally, some users may notice that they are unable to login to the chat feature within the All-New Yahoo! Mail. Overall it is a very small percentage of users who are impacted, but that doesn’t make it any less frustrating for those of you who are, and for that we are sorry.

Once the maintenance is complete, those users that have been affected will have full access to their email accounts. Again, we apologize for the inconvenience and will be working to resolve this as quickly as possible.

I have been having the same problem since 10/31/08 and have still not been able to get back in to my email. I am PISSED and get most of my bills electronically, so I am seriously screwed. Every time I go to the online help, they simply say that “the engineering team is aware of the problem and working to resolve your issue”………..yeah, right!

Ok, I can understand maintenance, but this is bordering on strange now. I’ve not been able to access Y-mail for little less than 2 days. The homepage loads normally, but when I go to sign in I get a “page load error” saying:
“Secure Connection Failed – login.yahoo.com uses an invalid security certificate.
The certificate is only valid for us.rd.yahoo.com
The certificate expired on 20.3.2008 18:29.
(Error code: ssl_error_bad_cert_domain)”

Just 15 minutes ago I managed to sign in, then I had to close down the browser (Firefox), and now I can’t sign in again (I get the same annoying ‘page load error’ line).

Can someone offer a little more elaborate explanation/reason? Please?

Saw a comment by Steven (Dec.8)…I also had Firefox update yesterday before I tried to log into Yahoo (to v.3.0.4.).
Just now I’ve tried IE, and I do get a normal sign in-window for Y-mail. So, if it’s Mozilla-thing, is there a way around it, other than uninstalling and reinstalling the browser? Anyone else having the same problem?

(sorry if this is not connected to the maintenance-topic, but it is a technical problem)

Thanks!

I have been having problems it seems like forever, somtimes I get my emails and sometimes I don’t. WHAT HAPPENS???? Some of them are VERY IMPORTANT, I use it for my home based business. It seems like to me, yahoo is just about the worst one out there to use. I have had to switch and use others for the emails. At first I liked yahoo better because it was so much easier, but now, emails get lost for some reason….they don’t even make it to my spam folder.

At what point will they give it up and chalk it all up to experience and call it a lesson learned ?
Geeeez yahoo are you guys on a mission to destroy the company or do you have the delusion that anybody even want’s this social network crap.
Read the blogs ! Nobody is happy ! Nobody ! get it ? geeeeez !

If you can’t fix it in a few hours or less maybe that’s telling you something
as like it can’t be fixed ! Man oh man ! talk about a total waste of time !
( you should not have broke it in the first place ) go back to the former great working mail system PLEASE ! Spare us anymore trouble and grief !
It’s gone on long enough, way to long !

I agree with that, ever since I was “migrated” to the new and improved Yahoo mail, and I might add I never agreed to the terms and conditions, it’s been a pain in the butt. There more advertisement’s on the page than there are usefull information, I wish I could go back to the old email system, but the live chat say’s I can’t because I accepted the terms and conditions, which I did not.

I’ve been having weird problems with yahoo for about a week now, e.g., mail jumping to “search”, “opened” mail suddenly not showing as “read” and contact lists opening up as if a “ghost” were in the room….ooooo…strange…. I kept thinking that is was my computer having problems but maybe this explains all the stange things going on with YAHOO. Anyway……
I’m wondering if the problem we’re having now is the culmination of something much bigger going on. If so, then hopefully they will get it all sorted out and we will all be happy.
Think of it this way…..a storm blows in and trees fall on power lines and/or transformers and everyone is suddenly out of power……the power company isn’t out to irritate you or cause you any inconvenience…..it’s life….sh*t happens!! Be patient….find something else to do with your life for a brief period of time!! Yahoo is not out to make your life miserable!

Geocities has been awful recently (last month or so?) – any interior links (file manager, upload, etc.) take me either back to the main page or to some ‘try it free’ page . . . this repeats several times before working correctly. Stats are also frequently wrong.

While I understand the argument that Yahoo! Mail is a free service “so people shouldn’t complain,” let’s not disillusion ourselves into believing that this is a magnanimous service bestowed on us. While Yahoo! Mail is free, it is free because companies pay Yahoo to advertise on the mail pages that we view everyday. The advertisers pay Yahoo for a captive audience that sees ads with every click of the mouse and every page view. The more page views Yahoo can offer up to potential advertisers, the more the advertisers pay. If no one uses free Yahoo! Mail, Yahoo loses advertising revenue. There’s a chance that the money Yahoo expends on techs, etc. to support free mail outweighs advertising revenue, but for some reason, I doubt that. So we’re scratching each others’ backs here, and we can absolutely complain but perhaps do so with a little more tact and thoughtfulness. No need to be rude.

If you have free email with yahoo be thankful you don’t have to shell out money for a domain and a host every month and then get poor service (Godaddy) with email.

Whatever the powers that be have chosen to do to Yahoo! over the past few months just….s**cks. I hate Yahoo! now. My home page doesn’t display properly nor do news articles most of the time, “My Yahoo” is all messed up, my Bookmarks do not display correctly, and I haven’t been able to send an email in more weeks than I can remember because there’s no field in which to type a message!!!!!!!!!! “Help” suggestions are laughable. I find myself using MSN and Google more and more.
Why did those in charge choose to mess with what I thought was a pretty good thing: Yahoo! as of 6 months ago.

I don’t know why I bother anymore….

Not having functional web access to email wouldn’t be as problematic were it not for the lack of any other IMAP client option besides Zimbra, which is a piece of garbage. At least if Zimbra worked the way it’s supposed to, I could get to my messages to some degree, but it doesn’t help when it doesn’t sync up with Yahoo’s own servers. I mean come on… Yahoo owns Zimbra and they run their own email service… Compare that to GMail IMAP which works in practically every desktop client out there and on the web.

In fact, I think that Yahoo’s mail infrastructure couldn’t handle IMAP demand from desktop clients since it isn’t robust enough, hence they limit it to the Zimbra client which seems to work when it feels like it, because nobody’s bothered to use it.

Is offering POP Mail for a fee such a big deal anymore? Again, I don’t know why I bother, as Yahoo is slipping into the seas of irrelevance. Jesus… even AOL is offering IMAP for free.

Imagine being the poor stiffs who have to correct this “problem”. Under pressure to get everyone back on to their FREE Yahoo services.
In the many years I have used Yahoo, the problems have been far and few. Technology can suck at times. Just ride it out, maybe log off and go for a walk. Fresh air is a good thing

Otherwise, life is good!

Ryan, while you are fixing things, how about fixing the glitch in Yahoo!Messenger that is saving IM sent, but not saving IM received. I have noticed that my replies to IM are being saved, but not the IM that I am replying to. This is frustrating, as it can be difficult to remember what the original IM said, when all you have is your answer to it. This is a recent phenomenon, in that its start seems to have coincided with the Version 8 Beta.

Thanks.

I was wondering, this seems to have coincided with my Firefox 3 download, which was working the day of the download, but not now. The Internet Explorer is working however. I’m wondering if there is any correlation.

I have been unable to access email since 8:00am today, so currently about 6 hours. I am sure glad I have nothing important to look at or respond to. I get the same message as anamaria. I am in the US. I pay for the premium service. I have been on the phone with Yahoo for a couple of hours trying to solve the problem. Apparently Yahoo can access the account, so I don’t have a problem and I should use a different browser on a different computer. As painful as this is and I know everyone knows how painful it is becomming, I guess I will commiserate at gmail.

I can’t access my Yahoo! mail at all… can’t login from any page (I tried My Yahoo and the mail.yahoo.com URL), from any browser, from any computer. Everything else works. Can someone explain to me what’s going on? Last time I used Yahoo! Mail was yesterday, at 7 p.m. in my country’s time (Indonesia), which makes it about 7 a.m. in the West Coast of USA.

I always used to click the “My photos” link in email search to see all the photos in my emails that I hadn’t downloaded. Now ever since the new yahoo mail is out (I tried it for an hour and then went back to the clasic) the link doesn’t work. It says, “Sorry. There are no photos in the results matching the following criteria”. Also when I write a word to search email the same thing happens. Nothing comes up anymore when it used to. Also this “Yahoo connections suggestions” every time I go to my email is highly annoying. I don’t want to connect with people I never wrote! I hate the way Yahoo is changing. I’ve mentioned countless times how Yahoo was the best. That was before. I write Yahoo and they never respond with solutions. How can I fix the email search and stop the damn suggestion about connections to stop? Cheryl.

This is 20 days after your announced problems and it appears to still not be resolved. Yahoo mail has gotten worse and worse.

I have hours and hours when my message bodies will not download or display.

I don’t use yahoo calendar but frequently have to wait and wait while it loads and reloads and errors out on calendar.

Stop working on new features and make the old features work properly. Yahoo mail used to be a great service. It is very bad now. I can no longer recommend it when friends ask looking for a new mail service.

Seems to me that they enjoy doing maintenance withou due consideration to the users. There is only the announcement of the maintenance but no committed date as when it will be up and running. As such, it is better to start reconsidering alternate service provider as back up. I understand this action will be unfair to Yahoo and to its disadvantage, of course unless Yahoo doen’t care. I’m frustrated too but this is the only recourse.

I always try to send a comment and get really lame replies telling me this doesn’t happen. Clearly, it does. I feel like I am on a target list by customer service since I complain so often. I really just want to have confidence in Yahoo again before changing services. Any help on that? I am not a blogger, and don’t have the time to be. Except that I saw another message on MyYahoo of change coming so I know I am going to lose even more. Yahoo doesn’t know what they are doing. Just looking at the list of complaints on this blog…that sure proves it.

It is ironical that this maintenance job is taking so long. Oct 2008 I could not open my mailbox, always Error Code 2. After numerous reports, they fixed it. Two weeks ago, the same problem happened – I could only view my Address Book, was unable to ComposeMail or read mails. I logged in using Yahoo Messenger, and the new mail alert popped up. I have 5 unread emails. For two weeks now, I have not been able to open my mails! And Yahoo’s survey team did a customer satisfaction with me on this problem. Ironical, isnt it? Not one survey, but two. Arent they supposed to do surveys only after the problem is rectified? This is the problem when everything is automated. Where are the people? I m still waiting. BTW, my Yahoo ID is ieoc6013.

Yahoo was very dependable… since the “improvement” it has been a nightmare for me to even get my mail. If I see another “error code 1 or error code 2″, I think I may go postal. It seems to me that yahoo is trying to force me to “upgrade” and pay $20 for the year in order to provide a functional E-mail account. Thank God that I don’t rely on yahoo for my business to run, because after two months of this crap, I would be fighting over food in the dog dish.

for some reason the yahoo home page changed on mozilla and since then I haven’t been able to log into my email. I can only seem to log in from work on internet explorer. Is there a way to get the old homepage back so I can access my email?

I’ve been with Yahoo for about 8 months. My mail system has gotten slower and slower, opening and sending mail.I sent myself a mail and it NEVER came. I’ve been temporarily using another mail box because of this. I was totally in love with YAHOO in the beginning, now, not so much. I just had my puter checked out and all is fine. I expected to see an improvement after that, but it seems the problem is NOT on my end.
thanks for the opportunity to speak.
