Having issues with YMail in Firefox 2? Could be a browser plugin conflict

We’ve received reports from some users that they are experiencing problems getting their inbox to load completely in the All-New Yahoo! Mail. Our engineers have been sleuthing around and discovered that if you are running Firefox 2.0.0.18, and have the RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin 1.0 installed as a browser add-on, you may run into this too.

Without getting too deep into the nitty-gritty, it seems that the plugin is preventing certain requests from reaching their intended destination within the browser. Fortunately there are two easy ways to resolve the problem.

  1. Go to Tools > Add-ons, find RealPlayer plugin, Disable or Uninstall, restart Firefox.
  2. Upgrade to Firefox 3.

Either of those options will do the trick.

I am using Firefox 3. Having intermittent problems with yahoo mail today. Could get on for a few minutes about 5 hours ago, but nothing since then. I can access Yahoo web sites if the address does not start with Yahoo – Finance.Yahoo is fine. http://www.yahoo.com does not work- browser says it cannot find the address. Same using IE.

Interesting you mention a problem FF version 2, I had no problems version 2 but have found that version 3 randomly crashes far too many times whether it be utilizing YM or cbs,sportsline.com’s fantasy links.

As a QA Analyst I am continually amazed at software companies and their lack of concern for the end user. Beta testing should be left to the company, contractors they employ and not the end user.

Yes, this is off topic and it won’t be posted just like my on-topic comment wasn’t earlier.
Is there a direct email address for a coherent, English as a primary language, abuse desk person I can email to shut down Nigerian scammers email addresses?? I have attempted to shut down 2 email addresses this week. The first one, I have REPLIED 3 TIMES explaining in the simplest terms possible that this email address needs to get shut down. For the other email address I’m on my 1st reply. Those people are as USELESS AS HOTMAIL/MSN abuse desk jokers. Hotmail, MSN, and Yahoo all say the headers are forged. WELL DUH! If they had the brains to look in the body like I told them…

I seem to be having a problem when I use the search inside the new mail. I’m using FF 3. If I type something in search and hit Go, it has been intermittently just spinning for a very long time and will then give me a pop-up error message (Error executing ClientSearch program). Today, I was able to get past that a few times but then, if I tried to narrow the search, it would spin for a while and then error out again.

Hope you can fix this.

I actually dumped Firefox altogether a few weeks ago and switched to Opera. The last update made it impossible for me to store my Yahoo cookies, so I had to log in from scratch every time I started the browser. I fished around on the net and other had the same complaint, but there were no solutions.

I didn’t know about all these other FF/Yahoo problems. Too bad. I liked FF, but it seems like they’ve gone down the tubes. I don’t like Opera as much, but at least it isn’t plagued with random glitches.

Like many people I have been using my Email address long enough to have critical information regarding flight reservations, bank updates, work, and bills send to my Email address; not to mention communication between family and friends. I’m sure most of us are using the free Yahoo Mail. Yahoo has no financial incentive to fix it. What do you expect for free? Oh, yeah, Gmail is free, right? hmmmm And Gmail is POPable. Yahoo.com isn’t.
I’m still not having any problems and my comments are still not posted. Even my positive comments aren’t posted.

**** CUSTOMERS: THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH YOUR PC. ****

YAHOO HAS CREATED A NEW, BROKEN E-MAIL INTERFACE THAT LOOKS LIKE |-|ELL AND MAKES MAIL MOSTLY UNREADABLE (LAYOUT ISSUES) IN BOTH FIREFOX AND INTERNET EXPLORER.

YAHOO MAIL WORKED FINE BEFORE…SO, DO NOT LISTEN TO THE ABSOLUTE BU|_|_SH|T THAT SOME FIREFOX PLUG-IN (REALPLAYER, WHICH IS A P-O-S ANYWAY, WAS MENTIONED) OR SETTING IS AT ISSUE.

IT IS THE FAULT OF YAHOO AND ITS WEB TEAM’S DELIBERATE AND FAULTY SCREW-THE-USER DESIGN.

NO WONDER YAHOO’S STOCK AND COMPANY ARE IN THE TOILET.

I’ve not had any problems accessing Yahoo! mail, except for a bit a month or so ago. Never a problem receiving mail, accessing from different PCs, browsers, everything. I know there’s a lot of you, but, from the outside, it smacks of user-side problems.

The one thing I have had a problem with, that I’m almost sure is plug-in related, is my email address autocomplete no longer working. Running FF3, with Firebug and a bunch of other basic add-ons. (Only one that may not be ‘basic’ is TwitterFox.) Any help appreciated.

Ok like yahoo mail claims to be the best web email but I’m finding that it’s a lie because I’ve has problems getting into my email everyday!!!! I downloaded firefox 3 and I’m still having the same problem!! I think yahoo needs to fix the problem because it’s clearly their network and not the users!!! This really sucks especially when you really need to get to some information!!!!! MAYDAY MAYDAY!!!!!

I don’t have this particular plug-in and am STILL having these same problems! Saved Drafts are lost–& not retrievable. Have to get Cust Care to log in & reset something manually, on Yahoo’s end, so I can see my inbox. Error Codes 2 and 4. It’s a Yahoo problem. Or so the three different Customer care people I spoke with informed me. I ask perfectly clear questions such as, Is this something I can prevent, or am causing? Will the problem be fixed? When can I anticipate that happening? and am given corporate template answers that are void of content.

Today was the last straw. I was told I had to change from FF 2.0.0.18 to FF3 or IE7. Excuse me? Given the ‘choice’ to change my mail or my browser, I think I’ll try Gmail, thanks very much. Firefox isn’t some obscure little browser from East Buttcrack; for heaven’s sake, if there’s a problem, FIX it already. Don’t tell me I need a new browser.

But here’s the rub: I can’t leave! There is no way to bundle my mail together & send to to myself; to download it in a few big chunks. I was informed Yahoo ‘didn’t provide that functionality’ and that Yahoo’s Engineers would love to hear my suggestions for improvement.

You have *got* to be kidding me. We’re married, forever? What kind of business model is that?

Will be bending my almost non-existent extra time during the holidays to finding a way out of this nightmare. Totally unacceptable answer. –elek

FF3.0 and 3.1beta dont work either so switching from 2 isnt going to help you out. There is something that Yahoo has changed in the last month or two which is causing the issues. Its miserable that such a great mail interface is now useless because it wont load with the browers that Yahoo recommends.

Sorry to hog things as a newbie to this forum. The mail website is still alive today and I will be again forwarding mail from an account I manage to talk21.com (bt.yahoo). The redirected email address is included in a web site and it generates loads of spam. During the recent problems I connected my own email client direct and received over 100 spam emails. By redirecting to yahoo this is usually about 6 daily and no loss of geniune contacts. The yahoo spam filters seem very effective and must send the rest of the rubbish into the ether.

Found this forum trying to track down my recent firefox/yahoomail problems. After a couple of messages, the pages stop loading, completely. Just keep going and going, never finishing. I am also unable to compose messages when this happens.

So far, when I switch to IE(version 6 currently) it doesn’t happen. Have always been happy with Yahoo mail, been using it for at least 10 years, but will have to switch if this issue isn’t fixed, looks like it’s not just me or my computer after all.

I was continuing to have problems, so I sent an email to Yahoo. I was still able to access Yahoo mail through IE. The response that I got said to disable all add-ons/plug-ins. I did this and gradually added them back. I found that the newest version of the Yahoo toolbar was the culprit. Go figure. When I disabled it, Yahoo mail came through just fine. Hope this helps.

I have not had access problems as much as “visual” problems. Yahoo!Mail looks plain weird. At first I though the mail page was not loading completely and I finally noticed that the mail webpage is really looong…….I have to scroll down for a long time through a vast expanse of plain blue background and waaay at the bottom there is the email. The mail is in readable format, but why the heck is it way down there??!!

Also, have been hammered with crazy spam email for the past two weeks and the spam filters are not catching it like it used to. In fact, I am now getting spam like I never got before in Yahoo!Mail. Lots and lots of spam. It looks like someone has taken the opportunity to harvest some email addys to bombard with junk or something.

Anyone else having the crazy mail page layout?

Yes, I was having the same/similar problems shortly after upgrading to
Firefox 2.0.0.19 (coincidence perhaps). The display issues had all the hallmarks of a CSS issue. After reading around a little I discovered that
for some reason Adblock Plus was blocking the following url:

http://mail.yimg.com/a/lib/mg/css/cmn/20081024/common.css

Once I added an exception YM rendered correctly.

HTH.

Hi all– I ‘ve been having a strange problem with Yahoo mail recently. When I view a photo displayed on MY Photos (photos extracted from my mail) page and try to save it, it saves as “movie clip” in html mode. I can rename it to a JPEG but it never was like this before. I need to change a setting or preference somewhere, but so far I haven’t found any tool that allows me to change that setting. This happens only in Moz/Firefox3.IE works fine. Do I change a setting in M/F or in Ymail? Can anyone help me find what I need to change? I’d appreciate. Thanks John

I use Firefox 3.0.5 on a Vista OS. I use the new beta Yahoo email system. I was able to access my personal Yahoo mail but unable to switch over to my business email account after I accepted a published Yahoo Toolbar update earlier this week. I tried various fixes (like uninstalling/reinstalling Firefox per Yahoo’s recommendation), deleting all cookies, etc. I finally disabled the Yahoo Toolbar and it fixed the problem. By the way, I did not have this problem in IE, so you may be able to use IE until you fix the problem in Firefox.

I’m having the issue of being logged in to yahoo and randomly having my browser stop responding for anything but yahoo mail. Terribly terribly irritating. I like to multi-task, chat, send receive emails, and surf all at the same time. This is not at all conducive to any of that as I have to continually restart my browser to fix it until the next time I log in.
