UPDATED: Yahoo! Mail Workshop – What do you want to talk about?

In July we held our first Yahoo! Mail Workshop.  It featured a live Q&A with Yahoo! Spam Czar, Mark Risher, and the response we got from everyone was very positive.  If you don’t recall the details, Workshops are live, online, moderated chats led by Yahoo! staff, with a focus on a specific topic of conversation at a specific, scheduled time. It is our hope that these Workshops can be a great opportunity for users to get tips on a variety of Mail related topics, as well as gets answers to specific questions that you have.

After each event I’ll post a complete transcript of the event, so that those who couldn’t attend live can still get the scoop.

I’m currently putting together the next Workshop, and wanted to get a taste of what you guys would like to talk about.  Keep in mind that these workshops are for educational and informational purposes, not to obtain account support.  That being said, let me know what topics you want to ask about.

UPDATE: It seems from several of the comments that the intention of the Workshop has been misunderstood (or I did a lousy job explaining).  What we are looking for are topics that you have educational questions about.  How to do something…how to use something…how to _____ (fill in blank).  What this isn’t supposed to be is a sort of Town Hall where we get together and discuss the direction of the product(s).

I understand that many of you would like to know what features may be coming down the pipeline, or what changes are on the horizon, but as a public company we can’t go into a lot of detail until the appropriate time.

So all that being said, what types of things do you think you would like to talk about?

I’d also like to know about the problem with the paragraph tags. In a lot of emails that I receive all of the paragraphs run together. I checked the HTML coding that was sent and they are using the “” tags but they seem to be ignored by Yahoo. Any ideas?

Spellchecker is substandard for a service that’s been running as long as Yahoo has. The list of suggested correct spellings is underdeveloped –VERY simple misspelled words don’t get suggested correct spellings. The “Resume” feature does not *resume* (as in pick up where it left off); instead it makes Spellchecker go back to the beginning of the message and start all over again! And it sure does start all over again, querying the very same words I had pressed the “Ignore” button for two seconds earlier.
What alarms me is that Spellchecker is getting erratic. It often seems to correct a word properly, yet when I check back in my message before I send it, I find that it added something like “&nsb” to the word or deleted the space after a word it corrected! What in the world is going on?
Having said all this, I would like to say I am very thankful Yahoo has always given us Spellchecker. It makes for a less painful world. . .

If you can show how to migrate Yahoo! Fanatsy Sports history, Yahoo! Answers points and questions, MyYahoo! settings, etc from my old yahoo.com account to my new ymail.com account I would greatly appreciate that. This information is pretty important. Thanks.

This new e-mail format is confusing and not a good change. I do not know who came up with the format but its “degererative” and I am open to change. What is the purpose of this?????? More advertizing on the right????? Hotmails change was better. Can your C.O. :-) :-(

  20. K.G. SHRIRAM says:

I suggest YAHOO! MAIL should offer user interface options. For example would you like the GMail interface ? Would you like the Apple Mail Interface ? Would you like this fit a certain iPhone interface hypothetical. The only thing static is the YAHOO! ID everything else should be allowed to change. There should a paid for and ad supported versions. Also, there is enormous scope on the 3D interfaces side. Like one of those 3D games.

Having had Outlook in the past, and I am not at all pleased with Yahoo Mail. To me it is very cumbersome Trying to insert pictures is very trying – you have to attach one at a time and they don’t automatically condense and I get repeated error mesgs when I try to send mail. I have tried in the last few days to Upgrade to Mail Plus, but keep getting a msg that the website is unavailable – am I doing something incorrectly. I have tried from my yahoo mail and from the Yahoo home page. Help please. G

  27. mermaid says:

When I send a reply I do not wish to automatically have the original e-mail in my reply. I was told by yahoo help that “that feature is not available.” I can’t eliminate the previous e-mail?

    Thanks for any help.
