Putting a flourish in your email…

If you use the all-new version of Yahoo! Mail, then I’m sure you’ve come across the great new feature we’ve just added for when you compose a new email message (and it’s one that a lot of you have been asking for). If you don’t use the all-new Yahoo! Mail, then there may be a reason to switch now. What am I talking about? Well the new Yahoo! Mail stationery, of course.

From now on, when you compose a new email message, you’ll have the opportunity to add a special touch to your message. And an extra added bonus with the new stationery feature – there are no more ads to distract you when you compose your email.

We’ve added the ability for you to add a whole host of stationery designs to make your emails that much more special. To help you get the most out of the new stationery feature, I’ve put together a slide show that tells you a little more about how to use it. Just click the first image on the left, below…

Happy emailing!
Andrew – Yahoo! Mail Team

P.S. The stationery feature will be available free to all users that are using the new version of Yahoo Mail. If you are not seeing the possibility to add stationery to an email you might have to wait a short while before the feature is turned on for you. As with all of our feature releases, we do it in stages to make sure that it goes smoothly.

The mail is great and the new version a lot faster, but what I find a bit annoying is that when I open my mail it does not automatically go to my inbox which for me is the most important. Is this poss?

  10. Dave says:

This stationary is not very printer friendly, uses lots of extra ink. Can the recipient turn it of and just print good old black text on white paper? For recipients on dial up it’s a much larger file to download!

  11. Joy says:

How can I add my own stationery in the same way as the given ones?

I want to see my yahoo avatar when I check my email. My friend’s email shows his avatar, but he cannot explain how I can get to see mine. Is the problem because, somehow, I ended up with a US avatar?

A read receipt for individual mails would be very useful indeed. I very nearly left Yahoo Mail when I discovered it didn’t have one

  16. umar says:

I agree with Mark who asked for these:

    1) a button to indicate the mail’s importance i.e. Low,Normal or High where High is indicated by a red ! exclamation mark
    2) The option to switch on a “read receipt” for individual mails – sometimes its useful to know when it was read.

  17. Tolu says:

Thanks guys, this is exactly what I asked for and you’ve given it. Hopefully I’ll be able to use this feature by the end of the week.

Yahoo is by far the best!

  19. Cheryl Kinner says:

I am trying to copy and paste a logo to use as a signature in my emails but it keeps saying there is an error when I try and save it. I want to include a logo but can’t see a way round it!! Can you help?

    —-
    Hi Cheryl,
You can have a logo in your signature, however you will have to link to it externally. This can be done if you create your signature using the Classic Version of Yahoo Mail. Switch to the Classic version, then go click “Mail Options”, then click Signature. Then you’ll have to use the “Pictures and Graphics” and view the HTML version to add a reference to your logo. This is a fairly technically advanced way to add a logo to your signature, so if the explanation above doesn’t sound clear, ask one of your “nerdy” friends for help.
    Thanks,

I would like a read receipt and an importance flag also. I am having to apply for jobs and a lot of them are email contact only, it is a worry that they are disappearing into the ether and you’re not sure if they have arrived.

An insert picture feature would be great too!

  24. Jenny Roberts says:

life without ads is great; please keep it up!

  25. Hayes Tiger says:

    Hi
Its great news, I sent a test email to hotmail but the background image did not show up and the identical background colour was only visible half of the page in the message reading panel for three line mail.

Yahoo rewarded me with golden inbox for being heavy user of yahoo mail that allows me to send 20mb attachment but sorry to say that feature is no use. When I send 20mb file to another yahoo or hotmail its simply returns back to me saying receiver inobx cannot accept 20mb atachemnt mail.

For 1 reason I like hotmail they allow up to 50 large size photos to attach with email to send to any email address.

Still my number one choice is Yahoo! Thanks for Yahoo UK and Team.

  26. Sean says:

What about a custom stationery template where you can set-up logos, colours and background images ?
Do you think this might be something to add? Possibly pay for,

  34. Trauts says:

re Mark – message No. 5.

I definitely agree with Mark -if we could have the “read receipt” and “Important” mail buttons this would really be helpful.

  42. Derek Lamberty says:

That is great news as who needs ads

  43. Nicola says:

Do you have to sign up for Yahoo Mail Plus to get this?

    —-
    Hi Nicola,
You do not have to sign up for Mail Plus to get this feature. If you do not see the stationery when you compose new emails, just wait a short while (up to 1 week or so) and the feature will be turned on for you. As with all of our new features, we roll them out to our users gradually, so we can make sure that everything goes smoothly.
Hope that helps. (and sorry that you have to wait)
    Andrew – Yahoo Mail Team

  44. Nathan says:

    Hey,

Great that you’ve added stationery, and the updates to Mail are really cool, but what about Calendar and Notepad? When are they going to follow with the updates? And when they do get updated (which they need to, Yahoo!’s image is changing … ) can you include ICS subscription features, both for me to subscribe to calendars and others to subscribe to my calendar? That’s one update that’s becoming long overdue.

Oh, and make sure that some of the settings pages get a makeover soon too. Some of them are still using the Classic interface.

    But excellent updates so far.

  45. Mark says:

    Great work Yahoo Mail UK

Could I make 2 requests for composing an e-mail?
As an Ex-Outlook user could you add the following buttons:

    1) a button to indicate the mail’s importance i.e. Low,Normal or High where High is indicated by a red ! exclamation mark
    2) The option to switch on a “read receipt” for individual mails – sometimes its useful to know when it was read.

    Thanks
