UPDATE: Issues retrieving from external accounts

Earlier this week I posted about issues some users have been experiencing when trying to retrieve email from external accounts within Yahoo! Mail. I’ve been checking with folks internally and have pulled together some additional information for you.

Recently we made some changes to how external account retrieval works. Most notably we added SSL functionality (enhanced security technology), which many users have been clamoring for. We are also taking steps to improve spam blocking for messages that are being retrieved from these external accounts, by running them through more aggressive filters. Unfortunately we encountered some unexpected problems that lead to server errors or processes timing out for some users.

A fix rolled out over the last 3 days that should have resolved the problem for many users. However, we are aware that there are still outstanding issues that are causing problems for other users. The appropriate teams are on the case, and have identified the problems, but are still working on the fix.

* NOTE: Request for user submissions has been removed.  More recent updates for this issue have been posted here.

We apologize for any confusion, and for the frustration this has caused. I will continue to post updates as more information becomes available.

You state “Most notably we added SSL functionality (enhanced security technology)”.

Where do I see that option?

I continue to have problems with my external mail accounts at tampabay.rr.com and ecars7255.com. I do not use SSL with those accounts. When I ‘Check all accounts’ from the Yahoo client, I get no indication that there is mail waiting even though mail is there.

Well, I don’t even have an external account and just signed-up for this yahoo email today but am having accessing it via the web. I get into a loop instead where the system keeps prompting me to log on… and yes… cookies are turned on. And on one rare occasion I could actually access my emails but most times not. :-(

Hope you can fix this problem soon.

Can’t seem to retrieve my emails at all, though I’ve no problem with the computer or interweb otherwise. Any help would be much appreciated!

I think it’s working, but it’s hard to tell because when I try to download external mail it takes like, 2-3 minutes to appear in my inbox.

I have an @yahoo.com account that I view as “classic mail”, but I’ve been having problems since Friday (6/6).

1) After login, the pages do not display correctly (colors missing, items not in regular places)

2) Cannot use the Delete/Spam/Mark/Move buttons.

3) Can open emails, but cannot view any message content

4) Can go to compose message but can only enter information in the To and Subject fields (No message body). Cannot use Send/Save/Cancel buttons on this page.

5) Cannot email Yahoo Help – each time I try, I get bounced to the login page.

6) I’ve received an unusual amount of spam in my inbox recently, but I don’t believe I’ve opened any viruses.

My account is still having issues with this.

No SSL’s involved.

The wierd thing about this mess is that my husband CAN get his mail from the same server???? I don’t know what is different between the two accounts…strange.

Still having trouble with frontiernet.net mail.

I have never received a reply, let alone Help, from customer service since I signed up 8 or 10 years ago.

I am still having problems retrieving my mail. It says I received one or more messages and it highlights the Inbox link but the mail is not immediately there. The mail might shows up several minutes later but in some cases it doesn’t show up at all. Why is it getting deleted? As a Mail Plus paying customer, I must say I’m quite disappointed.

I started having trouble accessing my external email account (incoming.lafayette.edu) last week. On Sunday (yesterday) it started to work sporadically (i.e. every fourth or fifth time I tried it would work) but this afternoon it is back to being dead. I just tried about 15 times and got nada, zero, zilch. Very frustrating. Very very frustrating. If this goes on much longer I am going to have to seriously consider my alternatives. I have liked yahoo mail for several years, but if it doesn’t work the way I need it, I have to find another way that will work for me.

The time to fix this situation is NOW. Not in a few days, NOW.

My two external accounts have been an issue for a couple weeks…taking an inordinate amount of time to check and download…folders disappearing on occasion. As a Mail Plus subscriber, it’s beyond frustrating. Why wasn’t this thoroughly testing in a non-production environment before being deployed? I realize I may be over-simplifying this but I rely on emails to be delivered and received in an efficient manner.

The situation is worse, at least for me. Now I am getting the busy message. When mail does load there is a long passage of time before the mail appears in the inbox. In addition, all the mail available for download is not downloaded even though the “new mail” box is unchecked.

Am finally able to move around in my yahoo email without being required to input my password everytime I want to delete an email, however am now a week unable to access my Yahoo Small Business Domain email..all other users unaffected…but as the Admin of the site, I cannot log in..access email..nothing..this is over a week now for a service that I am paying for…and no access…and no help…and no resolution. The only answers I’ve gotten have been canned responses (I used to work for a tech company and recognize it when I see it) and my calls to tech support have yielded..”change to a different browser like Firefox” (even though I have duplicated the password loop on 3 different machines..killed history..cookies..reboot until I’m blue in the face)….and being forwarded to Tech support after talking to 3 different Customer Service reps only to land in a phone queue that left me on hold for 20 minutes prior to telling me that the wait time was another 30 minutes. ( I personally did not seek upgrades to the Yahoo system that I have been using and that has worked fine for over 5 years…(if it aint broke dont fix it!)..and am not very confident at this point that anyone besides people posting here really even care.
Help please? Someone? Anyone?

Hello,
I’m facing the same problem, I’m using the new interface of Yahoo! mail, when I click on Check mail > “my external mail” I got this message:
The following error occurred when fetching your external mail: lastunsupported

I tried to switch back to the classic mail I got this error:

Unfortunately, there was a problem:
POP server does not support LAST command. You may only retrieve POP mail from this server using “get all messages”.

Anyone know what this is about?

W. Regards

Same here…can’t access email, haven’t been able to for a week now. Keep getting the loging screen over and over and over again. I sent email and got all the standard ‘cookie cutter’ stuff to check…did it all, still can’t access email.

I just added a new POP account and am getting the error “lastUnsupported”

This is a whole two months after the initial PR post from Yahoo’s community relations rep. Anyone have solutions? My business is suffering from not being able to have fluid email interactions.

Thanks

David,

It sounds like you are trying to add an SSL account. We have not rolled any form of SSL support since we rolled it back.

Hello Ryan, I receive an error when retrieving mail from an external account. Has this been resolved? or when should I expect this resolved. I see that you said back in June your team has already identified the root cause and are working to solve this. Give me the scoop.

The folloowing is what I get when retrieving mails from external account
“the following error occured when fetching your external mail:

lastUnsupported”

Hello,

For several days now I cannot get a connection with my verizon account (the link is gone from my Yahoo account), though everything says I am connected properly. I also cannot use my shortcuts or list mailing OR get help from Yahoo mail, it keeps sending me to Verizon help! Please, please post something about this issue.

Thanks,
Bec
