RESOLVED: Issues retrieving from external accounts

As I mentioned last week, we decided to rollback the recent changes to the external retrieval feature. That rollback has completed and functionality should be completely restored. However, the changes also removed the recently added SSL option, so if you have recently added an account that utilized the new SSL option, any attempts to pull those messages will be unsuccessful.

Our engineers will continue to examine the issue before attempting a future rollout of the SSL option, but in the meantime you may be able to incorporate a workable solution. If your email service requires SSL to POP messages to another service, you may be able to Forward all messages from that account instead. Depending on how frequently you check external accounts, messages can even get to you faster this way.

Also, if you want to retain the option to reply from the address of the account that is being forwarded, you can add that address and send “from” it. In fact, once you have added and verified the external address, it’s as simple as a dropdown choice in your compose window.

We are very sorry for the frustration this has caused you, and appreciate your patience.

I’m glad to see you posted the info about forwarding from a POP account. I’ve had my ISP accounts set up that way for at least 5 years now. I guess that’s why I wasn’t aware there were any issues.

I have my ISP accounts set to both forward to a Yahoo Plus AddressGuard address and to save on the ISP server. That way if I need to have a reply’s “full headers” show it came from the ISP address I just log in there to make the reply. The only disadvantage is that junk mail has to be deleted in two places. :-)

I’ve tried popping my yahoo account from my domain email server but was unsuccessful. After some reading I find out I have pay 20 bucks a year for Mail Plus with Yahoo just to add this feature? That is amazing how Yahoo thinks one would pay 20 bucks for this feature when they are already paying for a real email account. It’s not wonder Yahoo is not doing well these days.

And I still often get Error Code 16, with a link to a form about Error Code 14, when I try to purge my POP server (a lot of emails at a time).

So from my perspective, the problem is not “RESOLVED”.

Oh, and it just “worked” the second time I tried it, except now I have two copies of each of the emails from the server, even though I do not have the “Leave mail on POP server” box checked. In fact, I have none of the boxes checked.

So, again, there are still problems here.

My problem seems to have started when I bought an iPhone – might be a coincidence though!

I have all my e-mails routed through to my Mac Mail account. Lately, nothing is getting through to Mac Mail even though I can see the messages on both BT Yahoo! and the iPhone. Every few days the BT Yahoo! accounts then seems to clear itself and dump the missing messages into Mac Mail. This problem seems to reflect thoss described in earlier Comments (where people have problems routing external e-mail accounts to BT Yahoo!

Any thoughts, Mr Knight?

OK, slight correction: my external mail is still not working, still producing Error Code 14, *if* I try to get it in the normal way (which for me is to click on a Check Other Mail link in Yahoo Plus Classic.) If I click Edit to go to the Mail Accounts page and click Check Mail from there, I can successfully download my external mail, although I get a message that says “Downloaded one message…” when in fact it was a lot more than one.
So, correction: my external mail problem is kinda fixed, but not fully.

I’m sorry to see that some of you are still having problems, however it’s very likely that they are unrelated to the issues relating to the addition (and removal) of SSL.
-
That being said, it probably doesn’t matter to you that the problems are unrelated…just that you are having problems.
-
If you are still having trouble retrieving email from external accounts, please send me your examples and I’ll have some folks look into it.
-
Be sure to include the email provider you are trying to retrieve from, as well as all of the settings you are using (not password, just port, “leave messages”, filters, etc.).

Ryan, I been looking for answers to my problem everywhere, but I can’t find help.

I own two yahoo accounts, my personal account and my business account, both of them at yahoo.

Lets call them:
personal@yahoo.com
buisness@yahoo.com.mx

As I have to be always connected to my Ymess, cause all my friends and family living far away could try to reach me, that’s why I want to manage both accounts inside my personal Yahoo mail (that’s also because is really a headache to sign-out each account to check the other one

I’d like to receive mails form both accounts in my personal account so I can Check them and answer them.

I’ been trying to set it at my personal account options, but I cant find the right yahoo server so I can do it, I been trying with “pop.mail.yahoo.com” server, but it doesn’t help. I tried too: “pop.mail.yahoo.com.mx” but it didn’t work either

Can someone tell me which is the yahoo server that I have to type so I can use my both mail accounts signed in just one of them?

thanks for your help

Albert

I, too, am still getting an error message when I try to retrieve my external POP mail in Yahoo Mail Classic. I dunno if it is significant but I tried the new Yahoo Mail a few months ago and went back to Classic because the new stuff crashed Firefox constantly. I seem to recall that my POP mail worked before I switched but that could be coincidence.

As have other users, I have found a workaround. If you click on the ‘[edit]‘ link in the ‘check other email’ box and select a POP account from the list on the edit page you will see a “Check Mail” link beside the server name that is displayed for the POP account. That link works fine for me. It downloads the email into my inbox with the appropriate highlight color and everything. It’s four clicks instead of one but it works. I’ve been reading my POP mail that way for months now.

Thanks for this tip – I was getting the same errors from the “check mail” page; this tip worked for me on the account that HAD been working for years.

Yahoo mail (and all of Yahoo) is really going downhill – like MicroSoft, they keep “improving” it only to screw it up instead.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it !!!!!!

Every new version of Yahoo mail they come out with is full of bugs, and deletion of features that not only were we acustomed to, but also had the nice benefit OF WORKING !!!

I thought the problem was with my system but my husband said it’s Yahoo’s. After getting errors I went back to the old Yahoo and still got blank pages. We use Firefox. He spent hours on Sunday setting me up with Thunderbird to get Yahoo and gmail as additional backups. For years I had no problems. We travel abroad so that’s why I use Yahoo. What a mess you caused. Fortunately I was backed up on Thunderbird which I never really used; just had to update addresses from Yahoo. If it already works, don’t fix it to make it better.

“If your email service requires SSL to POP messages to another service, you may be able to Forward all messages from that account instead.”

That’s not a solution for those of us for whom the secondary mailbox is shared. In my organization, we are paying Yahoo! for multiple mailboxes and we each have a personal mailbox plus a shared one. It was bad enough that the Yahoo! web client doesn’t filter previously retreived messages; now we can’t get any at all from another Yahoo! account.

Who was the Yahoo! genius who decided to require SSL for access to Yahoo! accounts without providing a way for Yahoo! subscribers to retreive mail from one account into another?

Noelle/Basil…so good to know that I am not alone! Having uninstalled my anti virus, spent hours trying microsoft ‘fixes’, replacing Outlook with Windows Live Mail… all to no avail, it is reassuring that your ‘IT guy’ has come to the same conclusion, which I have to say , on reading these pages seems, in retrospect, obvious, that the problem lies with Yahoo! What is so disappointing is that for days there has been no further update from the company. Frankly I am at my wits end…I too have a business dependent on email. It is all very worrying.

It’s disheartning that there is no reply from Yahoo, that the problem has NOT been resoved!
What gives? At least confirm there is still a problem and Yahoo is working on it.

Help, I’m running out of time. My old email is closing and I need to get everything off of it.
This has already cost me many many hours of wasted attempts because your site does not have a SINGLE ONE LINE MESSAGE that the feature is turned off. How hard is ONE LINE? to save hundreds of people dozens of hours each!

Having tried EVERYTHING I could think of with no thanks to or help from Yahoo!, I have found a solution: BACK UP your old emails, DELETE your current account, CREATE a new email address, CREATE an alias with your old address to forward to new account…Unfortunately, this is the only way I could get my emails to start coming in again. I hope this helps those out there who are still waiting on the brains at Yahoo! to come through..

Nothing helps me to stop yahoo to check my external account
I did what is required to remove it
But Yahoo still pops it
The only thing left is remove my yahoo account at all
But I’m afraid Yahoo will not stop it even than

This is still broken. I can only check my email by using SquirrelMail provided by my external host directly or by using classic Y! mail and manually clicking the link. AJAX Y! mail still can’t check POP mail. Can we get an update about this? I’ve replied about 5 different times to a support request to Y! already without resolution.

Simple Answer. They are datamining, and uploading all data to the Pentagon.

I’ve been having problems now for about 2 weeks.
I can send mail from my Mac mail account (I’m with BT).
But I can’t receive mail despite numerous combinations of settings.

I can access web mail on the BT/Yahoo web but this is also
intermittent – most times I can’t even get to the mail.

I can however receive email via my mobile phone from BT.

If someone could post settings for a Mac mail account that would be very useful.

I too have lost the ability to receive email through Mac Mail. Like the others who posted above, I can see all my email from the Yahoo webmail, including email forwarded from my Gmail account. Grrrrr! This is very frustrating. When is it going to be fixed????

Hi,
I just checked my server, and for some reason, every 2-3 minutes Yahoo is hitting my server, downloading mail. Since I have a setting to not delete e-mail from the server, I now have 861 messages, most of them duplicates!

Does anyone know why Yahoo is hitting my server every 2-3 minutes??

I’m getting an error message, “Last Unsupported” every time I try to check my POP3 external email accounts. Started on July 18 between 11pm-2am MDT. Yahoo says it’s my email host, not them, but I can still get the emails at my gmail account. Anyone else seeing this problem?

When is the problem with authentication going to be fixed? I can no longer pull mail from one Yahoo account to another. Either fix it or eliminate the requirement for Yahoo accounts

We have been unable to retrieve mail from our other account since Thursday 7th August. Have just spent £40 today getting someone to check computer to find that the fault is Yahoo’s.

I also got the error message when trying to retrieve external messages. I resolved the problem by first deleting the account and reinstalling it again.

Hope this helps you too!

I use a mac. My pop email account at mail. btinternet.com ( hosted by yahoo) will send but not receive. – Repeatedly asks for my password. The webmail service works. I called tech support- put through to an idiot who persuaded me to delete the email account therefore deleting all the archived smails from the last 5 years. – Aarch… But no improvement. New email account had same problem.
