With so many of you snapping up shiny, new, ymail and rocketmail addresses over the last few days, I suspect at least a few of you will be wanting to actually use them.
As I mentioned earlier in the week, Yahoo! does not offer an option to merge multiple Yahoo! accounts together. Typically people opened secondary accounts because they wanted to separate different activities, not just to add email addresses, so it hasn’t really been an issue.
If an existing user is unhappy with their old ID, and prefers the newer ymail/rocketmail ID, we encourage migration to the new account (ultimately freeing up the older IDs for others down the line).
You are probably thinking to yourself “Migrate? How am I supposed to do that?” Well guess what, it’s actually pretty easy. As a Yahoo! Mail user you can have TrueSwitch do the dirty work. Think of them as a moving company for your email home. You provide some info and they pack up your stuff, move it, and even do the unpacking.
They’ll even give you the option of sending a personalized message to everyone in your address book, updating them on your new digs. Yahoo! Help provides wonderfully detailed breakdowns for Classic or All-New Mail, but if you prefer a jumbo side of pictures with your instructions … I have some for you!
First up you need to login to your new email account and go to the Options menu. Activate the Options dropdown (in either version of Mail) and select Mail Options. If you are using New Mail you can even jump a step ahead by choosing Import Contacts.

Once you get to the Options page you will want to select Address Book (Classic) or Contacts Options (New Mail). Once there you will see an option to Transfer Contacts to Yahoo!

Onto the security stuff. We don’t want people moving you without your permission, so even though you probably entered your password a few moments before, we ask for it again.
Then we want you to review some stuff from legal and grant permission for what’s going to happen.

Once you have agreed to the terms, you will be asked to provide your login credentials for your older account. If you take a closer look at the dropdown you will see that there are other options too (should you feel like moving any other accounts over to the new ymail home).
Steps 2 and 3 give you options for which content to move, as well as if you want to notify your contacts of the new address. Then agree to the Terms of Service and Start Transfer!

After the fancy bar lights up for a few seconds you receive the congratulatory message. Be sure to remember that the move will take place over the next 24 hours, so if you don’t see it when you login again don’t be worried. You’ll get a message letting you know once everything is done.

Hope this helps make the transition a little easier!

I would also like to migrate my other information that goes along with my Yahoo! account. i.e. Fantasy Sports trophies and team/league history, Yahoo! Answers points and history, MyYahoo! settings, Flickr photos, Yahoo! Groups membership, etc. I was on live chat with Yahoo! customer service and they mentioned this was not possible yet. I find these options as important as sometimes even more important then “just” may mail and contacts. Please tell me these transfer over as well or that is will be available soon if not now. I want a Ymail address so freaking bad!! The id i want is still available.

I have more than 1 yahoo account, and I want to integrate my contacts between the 2 of them. If I access trueswitch, will they transfer my contacts and delete them completely from the original account ? I want both accounts to have my contacts. Please advise.
Blessings
Hello Eric did you find the answer to your question below? If so please let me know.
Did anyone respond to this???
I have Mail Plus and Webhosting… does your entire account switchover… or does it just copy contacts and old emails.
I cant seem to find a definitive answer!

Hello DONNA SUNICH , I’m Linh. I ‘m from Vietnam. I felt very happy because scartch acquaintance whit you. You add my nick: “cheerful.nemo” and we’re talk , OOOOOOOOKKKKKKKKK? Thank U
I moved from Yahoo.com to rocketmail.com early last week. My address book, contacts, and most of my folders moved effortlessly. However, my Sent folder and my Drafts folder did NOT move. The information in these two folders is critical to have accessible with my rocketmail account. I contacted Yahoo Tech Support, and they referred me off to Trueswitch Tech Support. I contacted Trueswitch Tech Support. Their return email said they’d respond within 36 hours. It’s a week later, and there is no response. I am considering going back to Yahoo.com.

For flickr, you can change your Yahoo login ID on the flickr Web site. It’s pretty seamless.
I migrated from old to new email address. So far calendar and notepad transfer hasn’t happened (still about 8 hours left in 24-hour transfer window). My folder list has duplicate folders. 1. Home has a duplicate folder 1_Home below it, and the same with all my other folders.
A little nervous about the TrueSwitch transfer right now, but remaning hopeful.
hi ryan,
i was just wondering. how about all my photos in flickr? would i be able to use my new ymail account to access flickr? or would i have to stick with my old username?
When I tell my friends my new email address ID@ymail.com, some people think it is ID@gmail.com. This may be caused by the similarity of ‘y’ and ‘g’, and at this time, Gmail is more popular than Ymail. In Ymail, I can set reply address as ID@Ymail.com, but cannot set the sending address. It would be nice if we can have an option to set the email address as ‘Ymail.com’, instead the default ‘ymail.com’
Can someone please provide the POP3 incoming/outgoing servers settings for using in a local mail application (outlook, outlook express etc.) of the new ymail service?
Thanks,
G.
I was happy to have a new account xxx@ymail.com. Found the migration process easy. But TrueSwitch does not move any foreign characters over in Address Book or Email. I couldn’t possibly be the only multiple language user (Chinese, Simplified Chinese, German, English) I hope. After the migration, I have more ????? on a page than anything else. Wow!
Ryan, I forgot to say me.com is the address for Apple’s new MobileMe service(replacing .Mac). The .Mac addresses do work with Yahoogroups.
Since the me.com addresses seem to be active I attempted to add one to Yahoogroups and when I clicked the Finished button the following appeared in red at the top of the page.
“Invalid Email Address.Your Email address of xxxxxxxx@me.com belongs to me.com which has requested not to be used in Yahoo! registrations. Please contact the owner of this domain directly for more information.”
I was not trying to register but just add to the list of addresses I can post from.
Ryan, will we be able to use a me.com address there in the future?
Ryan, I am having problems with my Yahoo Groups site……..particularly the Calendar options not working properly. I have help all the help info and emailed customer service many times. All I get is a response that they’re sorry I’m having problems. I have call the 866 customer service number and never get to a human to talk to and the one correct, I think, department I got to had a 10 hour wait time!
Can you suggest to me who/where I could get some help with this problem.
MJ Apple,

We’re not encouraging you to move accounts. This is simply an option if you were not happy with your current Yahoo! email address.

I pay for my account. I have everything set up the way that works best for me. I use Classic and do not want to change. I’m a true believer in the old saying, “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.”
After reading all the problems people are having I have to worry. I don’t have the time to start fixing problems that Yahoo will create for me. I would just as soon buy an account with another mail provider and spend the time setting up that account…who knows what changes Yahoo will force on us in the future!
I’m trying to set up my new ymail account in my desktop e-mail client and it needs the following information, which I don’t know how to get. Can you help, please?
1. The type of e-mail server that you use (POP3, IMAP, or HTTP
2. The name and details of your incoming e-mail server. Your incoming server name might be mail..com or pop..com, where is the name of your e-mail provider’s domain .
3. Any relevant security settings.
4. The name and details of your outgoing e-mail server (POP3 and IMAP accounts only). Your outgoing server name may be smtp..com, where is the name of your e-mail provider’s domain.
Thank you so much!
GOOD NEWS :
The prefix issue has been fixed ! I finally was able to migrate my emails & contacts from prefix@yahoo.fr to prefix@ymail.com using Trueswitch.
VERY BAD NEWS :
1) Trueswitch does NOT migrate emails bigger than 5Mb !
2) Trueswitch does NOT migrate the “sent” folder !
3) Trueswitch adds unwanted default nicknames to all contacts !
4) Trueswitch replaces most of the accented letters in contacts & emails by weird letters combination (= bad character encoding) !
5) And Trueswitch loses some HTML contents while migrating (some of emails show up as completely empty now) !!!
So, as you can see, the Trueswitch is a lot buggy and migrating to a new Yahoo account is not as simple as Ryan says.
My advanced search is no longer working properly.
I tried several times to find an email that I knew the location of. The search never found it.
By the way, I have used search many times. I have never had this problem before.
AUTOCOMPLETE NO LONGER WORKS. VERY UPSETTING
So is this why yahoo mail has been down or glitchy for the last few days? If I try to check my mail on my cell phone it is from back on the 26th. I was able to get into my mail but only on the web for a few hours today and now it’s down again! What gives? I really don’t care about everyone’s rocketmail or ymail addresses. I just want my email!!!
Great info!. Now I wish someone could take a look at the weather section in the Home tab. It doesn’t remember your settings at all. It keeps displaying the current weather for “San Cristóbal” instead of “Buenos Aires” (my selected location) as well as it keeps displaying the values in Fahrenheit instead of Celsius. It’s been working this way since it was implemented, could someone take 5 minutes and look at this?. Thanks a lot!
Is there any way to request a printable travel list layout for the Yahoo Messenger Contact List? If so, I would like to request such a layout. I am a retired DB manager, and can design one, if need be. Thank you very much. mz
i send e-mails cant delete them
all stay at bottom of my page
over and over
plese help

I’ve got an e-mail address with just my name – no funny numbers – odd letters or annoying hyroglyphs – just me.
Problem.
currently with British Telecom who use yahoo as a default mail carrier. That email is also linked to e-bay, paypal & other business etc.
If I migrate, will I have to go through re-registering with all these other links & websites & what happens if someone who’s not on my contact list – e-mails my (by then non existant) BT address – will the e-mail be forwarded or will they get an undeliverable reply – or if the old (current – by then un-used) address is recycled, – will the new person recieve it instead. ??
Confusion reigns !
Why can’t I just have 2 e-mail addresses. !
I just stumbled on this place.
I think I’ll be coming back often
to learn more about email but I’m
exhausted now.
I have a regular mail account and the search mail feature seems to work 10 % of the time…. Whenever I try to search through my mail i just keep getting error messages… This happens in te new yahoo mail and yahoo classic… What is being done to fix this problem?
I presently have a regular Mail Plus account. If I migrate everything over to my new Rocketmail account will it change it to a Mail Plus account? Or will I have to set up a new MP account?
Just let you know that the TrueSwitch wizard does NOT work if you want to migrate from prefix@yahoo.fr to prefix@ymail.com ! Yes, the wizard does NOT allow you to enter the same prefix for both the source AND target Yahoo email addresses.
I thought “Forward as Attachment” was going to be preserved in the Classic upgrade. NOT IF YOU’RE ON A MAC, I GUESS! How is the elimination of this feature supposed to be an improvement??
Problems with the new yahoo mail classic:
• Flags. Give me an option to do away with that column completely. Those little dots are a complete eyesore.
• Anytime I forward or reply to an email, I automatically am put in the “rich text” format. Under old classic, it would forward (or reply) as an attachment, and I would be in plain text. I read about the ctrl button when forwarding to make it an attachment. While this works, it’s not what I want. I STILL am put in rich text format by default. (Not to mention I have to push an extra button instead of just hitting reply.)
• My sent folder no longer has a shortcut to click on to save or not save every outgoing message. Meaning I have to go into mail options and waste more time.
• Attachment preview is now gone. That feature helped me immensely on a macintosh computer.
