As many of you are probably aware, users are still running into problems retrieving email from their external accounts. Our teams have been reviewing your submissions and analyzing the situation, however the top priority is restoring the original functionality you had.
At this time the plan is to roll back the recent changes to the external retrieval feature. The rollback has already started, and should take a few days to reach everyone. What this means is that your ability to retrieve from these accounts should be completely restored, however it also means that we will be rolling back the recently added option to use SSL. If you have added an account that requires SSL, retrieval from that account will no longer be possible.
Once the original functionality is restored, our teams will be re-examining the causes and will work on resolving them before attempting to rollout the changes again.
I’d like to thank everyone who has sent along their account details. I won’t be able to provide individual support, but your reports should help our engineers in their troubleshooting efforts. No additional reports are needed at this time, but should problems persist later in the week I will likely be soliciting reports again.
I will be back with further updates later in the week.

Yahoo! Mail
PS or tell your sysadmin to enable “pop3_enable_last = yes” in the server configuation for the pop server.
FYI, people getting lastUnsupported alert dialog need to disable “Leave mail on POP server”. I don’t know why Yahoo is using a “prehistoric” and conceptually in accurate LAST command instead of UIDL: http://www.dovecot.org/list/dovecot/2004-June/003775.html
Sign in to your email account, hit inbox, and somewhere on the upper right corner it will ask you if want update to newer version of yahoo email. I updated mine and it solved the problem. Hope this helps.
Whenever I try to open emails sent in by friends, I receive the message “error code 14″. It’s so frustrating as it has been more than a month that I am unable to open my emails. Help. Thanks.
This is one of the best posts I have seen in a long time on the net, will be visiting again in the near future
first- check out my comment above. It works for me. I have put a shortcut on my desktop to fetch my external eMail with that method. Hope the other method will works soon again in a stable way.
Regarding your frustration: I agree- I have been again and again very frustrated with the Yahoo eMail service. Sometimes, I am wondering if the company went the same way as many big companies: 99% managers and 1% creative workers. It seems that the Yahoo email software is being developed by just one totally overworked person… I was tempted to switch to Google, but this is by far not what we are used to get from Yahoo in terms of GUI. Yahoo has done a great job in creating this awesome frontend (congratulation to the programmer), and I am amazed that this whole thing serves several hundred million people. Nevertheless, I am also using it for our business purposes and I expect a much more stable operation. I have no problem to pay twenty times as much as I’m paying now for my mail plus service, but I expect stable operations and a customer service that helps me promptly and not after ten iterations with cheap call center people.
So- Yahoo: Congratulations for what is there! Please make it usable for more professional users, although they might be a minority. The income from that should make an approrpiate team affordable.

This is too much. Since mid May i can not access my external email. I receive the same spam but not my external email messages. I am constantly traveling and i can not have my computer with me. I was using this service for 3 years with out problem but now is not possible anymore. Please, advice me what to do?
I have an email account with yahoo.co.in, Whenever i try to open received mails from my inbox it shows the msg “error code 14″
Pls help me in solving the problem.
update:
it seems to me that the speed of your internet connection plays a role here. I had problems to retrieve my POP3 eMail last week while at a very slow wireless internet connection. Now, back at a fast line, the Yahoo service works again as usual. It is puzzling to me, and maybe this is sporadic, but maybe it helps someone else.

I am also having the problem that Yahoo cannot fetch eMail from my external server- it is sporadic, though. I found a way to force the eMail fetch by this method:
1. goto Options -> mail options
2. -> accounts
3. select the account where you want to download emails from
4. click on ‘Check Mail’ there.
5. check your yahoo mail, here are your emails.
This may also fail, but it works more likely than the yahoo mail frontend
Hope it’ll work for you, too

Please someone a Yahoo help us!! It is amazing that there are so many problems with email at the moment…I have now lost my business email totally AGAIN and am getting the following error message:
Unable to send or receive messages for the Btinternet (******) account. An unknown error has occurred.
Server: ‘mail.btinternet.com’
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0×80004005
Protocol: POP3
Port: 110
Secure(SSL): No
Like many others I pay a monthly fee for BTYAHOO ‘mail plus’ so really we should at least be treated to feedback and advice as how to solve this problem. What on earth is going on!!
I cannot open the emails I have received since the morning of 6-19-08. Is it something I have done, or has Yahoo mess it up? I am 82 years old and I don’t understand computers. But until now, I could send and receive emails, look up various things on the internet, etc. PLEASE FIX!!!
Please help. I know you guys have claimed to have this “resolved”, but it’s not. What is really odd is my husband and I both have accounts w/ yahoo & both pull our mail for our business from the same server. He can get his (and always could), but I have not been able to since the original upgrade was done to yahoo a few weeks ago. I really do need to get my mail. I still get the same error code. It worked fine before and nothing has changed on my end.
GOOGLE IS WORKING NOW BUT MY YAHOO MAIL IS STILL OUT IS THIS THING GONNA BE FIXED OR WHAT IT’S GOING ON OVER 3 WEEKS NOW WITH OUT HAVING MY EMAIL THIS REALLY
SUCKS IS THERE ANYTHING Y’ALL CAN DO TO FIX IT OR IS THERE NO HOPE LEFT PLEASE REPLY WITH SOME INFO THAT MIGHT HELP US
THANKS
Error code 14 started for me yesterday on Yahoo.co.uk and continued throughout today – on Firefox, but no problem with IE.
What gives?
I am also using classic mail and since this update started, senders of mail get a “no account” message and my outbound e-mails go nowhere. I’ve had this account for more than ten years under the rocketmail name and it is my only e-mail. My guess is that this update completely scuppered all functionality. It would be nice to know that this is being fixed as letters to support produce no results.
I using classic mail – I am unable to compose a new mail message or reply back to an existing mail? Is this part of your rollback concern?
This is what I have been getting for over a week.16/06/2008 6:55:01 AM Error reported by Server: 553 From: address not verified; see http://www.rogershelp.com/verify-email.: Sending email message “new”.
I can receive but not send.
How hard can it be to go back to a working version?
Does this issue have anything to do with sudden decrease in spam filter’s capability? I normally get 1-3 spams a day. Since Friday, my inbox is filled with over 90 spams (out of around 900 spams) — whopping 10% of the spams were not detected.
Unable to access fully my email in NokiaN70 and PC also
