Yahoo! Mail users eligible for Pearl-a-day giveaway

Blackberry Pearl promo

If you’ve thought about jumping onto the mobile mail bandwagon for a while, now might be a good time to take the plunge. While the Yahoo! Mobile team has done a lot to make Mail (and other Y! products) work really well on a variety of mobile phones, the experience they’ve developed for certain smartphones (like BlackBerry or iPhone) is really awesome. For me, the divide between having to actively check my email and having my device notify me when new messages arrive is Grand Canyon-esque.

That’s why I think this promotion from the Yahoo! Mobile team is something really worth checking out. They are giving out a BlackBerry Pearl a day for the rest of May. All you have to do is sign-up for the promotion and then try using Yahoo! Mail on any data enabled phone. Once you’ve done so you’ll get entered into daily drawings when you use Yahoo! Mail. Winners get to choose the color and carrier for their new Pearl.

Check out the Yahoo! Mobile Sweepstakes page for all the details on entries, drawings, and timing. Also note that the checkbox for receiving future promos from BlackBerry defaults unchecked, so only check that if you WANT to be alerted about upcoming offers from BlackBerry.

This would be an even better giveaway if the blackberry didn’t require a $100/mo plan to make use of its online features. Much better that you offer a LG eNV or comparable Nokia that someone can use on their family plan or similar.

Best of intentions I’m sure but we’re not all childless apt-renting middle-income code burners.

Hmmm. If I had a phone that was email enabled, I wouldn’t need a Blackberry.

Besides, my cell phone carrier wants too much money for email.

I’ll stick with using a PC for my email. I mean, have you ever seen someone addicted to their crackberry? It is a sad site indeed.

Hi everyone,
-
Here’s a few responses.
-
@Joe
Depending on how you would use it there are plans out there that are WAY below $100.
-
@Scott
Sorry, it’s a promotion from the Mobile team. They get to set the rules.
-
@Kevin,
I’ll make sure they know that there is interest from outside the US. Perhaps they can get their counterparts overseas to run a similar promo.
-
@Just Me,
A lot of phones are email enabled, but the experience on a Blackberry (or iPhone) is way better. That’s why I thought some of you may be interested. But you are right…it can turn into an addiction if you aren’t careful.

Ryan-

Here’s something I don’t understand. Yahoo Push email has been enabled with the iPhone. You’re also talking about taking the Yahoo Email experience mobile on a variety of devices. What about computer email clients?

In light of this contest, why does it seem that Yahoo has no news at all on implementing IMAP for use with computer email clients?

Is there some huge technological obstacle in the way of Yahoo IMAP? Or if the concern is a revenue return because ads won’t be pushed with the use of a local email client, that’s entirely not the case. I can’t use my laptop in many places and so I’ll be using the yahoo email website and seeing the banner ads. You don’t seem to mind the revenue model for POP and you charge 20 bucks a year for Yahoo Mail Plus to have it without banner ads.

Please just charge us anywhere from 20-100 bucks a year to recoup your lost advertising revenue per user for IMAP. It’s a glaring omission in an otherwise great email service.

Thank you,
EM

Great competition…………if you live in the USA. Why don’t they put a notice saying “If you live outside the USA, don’t bother with this competition”, then we wouldn’t waste time filling in our details.

I agree with EM’s points. Is it that far off to put IMAP on desktop clients if you’re already doing “mobile” Blackberry clients and the iPhone?

Someone should tell the newbies at Yahoo that the company has acquired other domains over the years. The sweepstakes form would not accept my rocketmail.com addy — yes it’s a yahoo mail account.

I don’t have a cell phone, but if I did win I would set up an account, so since I am not as fortunate as others, I guess I don’t get to play??

Not fair, I just want to be part of the group.
