UPDATE: Postmaster Queue Delays

As reported recently, some bulk senders, ISPs, and commercial emailers have been running into problems getting timely responses to our Postmaster troubleshooting forms. Unfortunately the situation is taking longer to resolve than we had anticipated, so I wanted to let you know that we are still working on it and are concentrating our efforts to get the queues back up to speed as soon as we can.

So … if you have already submitted an inquiry or form please be patient. If you are about to submit a request please be as thorough as possible, to reduce the likelihood that one of our agents will need to follow up for more information.

Ryan, my Y! account it about to be 10 years old.
I’m really happy with it, and if sth happened to it I wouldn’t know what to do.
However, I’ve lately been getting an error when trying to get mail from an external POP3 account (It’s translated from spanish):

The following error was produced when trying to check your external email
“lastUnsupported”

And that’s all it says.
Any help would really be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I had problems yesterday with sending mail to my own Yahoo account. One could not be delivered at all (my employers mailserver tried for 12 hours) and one could only be delivered after more than 4 hours. Does Yahoo have capacity problems on their MX-Servers?

Olasumbo, have you even attempted to read any of the help files? Nobody but you can change the name associated with your account and it’s not particularly difficult to do. Go to help and read how.

Hi everyone,
-
There were some issues impacting some users this morning, but while I was in the process of tracking down the specifics everything appears to have stabilized. Sorry for not getting word up sooner, but I need to make sure that any issues I report on are described clearly and as accurately as possible.
-
So yes, there was a problem earlier but everything should be back to normal now.
-
We apologize for any frustration you experienced.

I’ve been having problems off and on. Usually I just see the Firefox not loading screen.

Today, I had a message from Yahoo about Error Code 5. It advised that I reload the page, and if that doesn’t work to click on a link informing Yahoo.

Problem is, when I reload, I get the Firefox “won’t load” page again, not the Error 5 notice.

What the heck IS Error 5? And does this count as notifying someone?

I’m concerned with problems I’ve been having with Yahoo mail for a few weeks now. Almost all mail I send to myself is being diverted to bulk, and I’m getting frequent postmaster ‘mail can’t be delivered’ notices for mail to friend’s and family’s whom I’ve never had difficulty mailing to and who’s addresses have not changed. What’s going on? My sister who lives several states away is having similar problems. I use classic e-mail, and have never had any problems with it until about a month ago.

well as far as mail i gave up trying i have been down from yahoo mail for over a week i switched everything to gmail only because i need to communicate via email to several people. the crazy thing is no other problems on any other mail programs and the problem isnt because of the ISP, i tried on several computers and even went to the other side of the city with a computer that i have never logged onto and ran into the same problem. For those of you who can at least see your email be lucky. I cant even do that. I dont feel like hunting for the form to submit what steps i have gone through although i am curious why doesnt yahoo have that a little more visable like on the homepage anyways i have a few emials to read just thought i would drop a line to let everyone know that if your having the problem you are not alone.

Ryan,

I have been subscribed to a daily news bulletin service of http://www.sarilaciverthaber.com and getting daily news of my favorite soccer team. Within the last 3-4 days (they were important since my team played a semi-final in European Champions League) I couldn’t receive their daily mails. I have contacted with them to see what’s the matter.

They informed me they regularly send mails every morning to the subscribers, but all the mails send to Yahoo addresses are bouncing back with a message below.

I’ve had significant problems with Yahoo mail being rejected by other service providers due to the Yahoo servers being blacklisted for distributing spam. I’m also getting frequent time-outs on POP despite updating my settings. My trouble ticket has still not been answered after 3 weeks.

It’s been down for 7 hours today for no particular reason and I have had no repsonse from yahoo.

Folks, this is in preparation for the purchase by Microsoft. For those of you who try to send to HotMail you’ll know that Yahoo! mail now works about as well. Yahoo! executives have ordered the Yahoo! Mail team to make it work as poorly as HotMail so that the transition to a single mail system will be easier.

I have been a Yahoo Mail Plus subscriber for 3 years and, recently, it has become so unstable. Today, for instance, I am not able to send e-mails due to “Error Code 5.”

Also, every few months, my mail becomes delayed by hours and, sometimes, days.

This is completely unacceptable from a mail service. I have decided to follow everybody else I know and switch to Gmail. Unfortunately, Yahoo Mail is not ready for prime time. I don’t care about the bells and whistles. I just want reliability out of my e-mail.

Shame on you, Yahoo…

With all the talk about people not receiving emails, not being able to send emails and/or not being able to view emails, I have to add that while weeding through some old emails, there is a certain time period (mid-November 2006 through December 31, 2006) that I’m unable to view/access. I get Error Code 6 in Classic Mail. When I attempt to view these emails in All New Mail, I get an error message that says the email cannot be found or located. I’m getting concerned that maybe the server has permanently lost some of our archived emails. I hope I’m just being paranoid, but a couple of months ago, another email provider (was it Comcast?) lost all of their customers’ saved emails. Forever. Keeping my fingers crossed that all of these problems get ironed out soon.

Doesn’t the latest news include Yahoo going into partnership with AOL/Time-Warner? I’m not sure the problems we’re experiencing would therefore have much to do with Microsoft, but who knows.

Same problems for several weeks. The SMTP servers either don’t recognize my stored password when using an email client or the authentication process works fine but the server then times out.

It’s happening to multiple people I know who use Yahoo Mail Plus. These continuing SMTP problems are getting old…

Beginning April 10th and still happening today, April 9th, the incoming mail servers plus.mail.yahoo.com and mail.yahoo.com are repeatedly rejecting my email client’s (Outlook 2007) attempts to download mail. Periodically, it will succeed (maybe 1 out of 25 tries).

We all would appreciate it if you would post info is this is a known issue and an ETA for resolution. Many thanks!

Why is this blog so poorly integrated with my other Yahoo tools?
-Why do I have to enter my name and email address? I’m logged in to my Yahoo account, that should be filled in automatically.
-If I want to forward this post by e’mail, why do I have to set up a new “Share This” account? Why can’t I just use my Yahoo! Address Book?

I tried contacting the yahoo customer care and I’ve already submitted a verification form of my complaint. I am using Windows Vista and my browser is Firefox. Is there any connection with what browser or version of Windows am I using. I’ve been unable to access my messages since Thursday (April 10, 2008). What would be the problem with my account? I am fed up with Yahoo and its problems. Why can’t I get any help or answers? Patient answer is, “it should be fine in a few minutes or switch back to basic mail”. I have been with Yahoo for over 10 years and I have opened a gmail account and have been extremely happy. If Yahoo doesn’t get its junk together I am 100% gone. I will be 100% with google and gmail by the end of Summer. OH! It took several attempts to send this :-(

I can only echo many of the sentiments on this page. Track record has been pretty good with Yahoo however missing emails or 24 hours late is simply not good enough. I am a mail plus subscriber which you would expect QOS however this does not appear to be the case. It is evident that when dealing with the technical staff and seeing all the posts that Yahoo have done upgrades to there systems and they simply cannot cope with the throughput. Weather it is the the systems inability to cope with the load or the rule base used to analise and intercept the mails before delivering to recipient, who knows! but it is simply causing delays in an in- consistent manner which is another reason why the technical staff waste there and the end users time trying to troubleshoot. I will have times when email will work with no issues and then I just dont receive them for a day or two. In the meantime the sender has received error messages saying in lamens terms there has been problem sending to me but despite this I still get them but much later on. Obviously stuck in a QUEUE!! . Yahoo need to publicly announce exactly what the problems are to set peoples expectations. I myself am looking for another mail service and I anticipate they run the risk of losing many more if they do not sort soon.

Can you or anyone at Yahoo Mail provide us with an update? It’s been almost a month since the last promise. The request to “be patient as it’s taking longer to resolve than anticipated” is causing me to be impatient since I’m not seeing any results. Knock-Knock . . . is anyone from Yahoo Mail there? Do you care that your customers cannot rely on Yahoo Mail??

I agree with most of the comments here…when our company goes through a merger, and they run their own Exchange server, no bulk mailing, no distribution lists, just a straight up corporate email server, with spam filtering, not an open relay…and they can’t send mail to the other half of the company because it’s hosted by Yahoo…Well that’s just unacceptable. What are the criteria for being greylisted and temporarily deferred? Sending more than 1 message a day? Because with normal email volume, we’re still getting ourselves greylisted.

I can’t believe we actually PAY for this kind of service. I can tell you this: Once our exchange server is running, it’s byebye to Yahoo forever.
