Text Insertion Issue within Mail

We are aware that some users have noticed small amounts of text added to the footer of some messages after sending.

Impacted messages will display text that reads “between 0000-00-00 and 9999-99-99” only after a message has been sent. The text is then visible to the sender (via the Sent folder) as well as to the recipient. We believe we have identified the root cause of the issue and hope to have it resolved within the next day or so. Please note that this should have no impact on your ability to send or receive mail.

We apologize for any inconvenience or confusion this has caused you.

Maybe it’s due to the IMAP feature that you’re working on? :-)

I would like to suggest a new feature for All-New Mail. I thought there was a form to submit the suggestion to you, Ryan, and honestly, I did search for one….
I apologize if this suggestion has been submitted before. I would like to see an “Addendum” feature that can be applied to messages received. One purpose for the feature would be to add information–in the form of a short note–to a message in which the information directly pertains. For example, someone sent me a message recently that contained a recipe. Days later, I received another message from the same individual stating that she forgot to list an item in the list of ingredients. One way I could deal with the added information would be to save the additional message and simply leave it at that. However, the next time I read the original message with the recipe, I may not remember to read the second message, and that could result in making a recipe without a key ingredient. I suppose I could copy & paste the recipe from the original message into Yahoo! Notepad, then add the missing information, and save the note for future reference. Or, I could forward the original message to myself with the added information, which is the method I chose; that way I was able to keep my goal of having one complete copy of the recipe within my main e-mail. The last two options require a lot of extra steps, and seem unnecessarily long in my opinion.
I think it would be great to be able to click on a button within a message I receive (the button could be labeled something like “Addendum”), type in whatever information I want to be correlated with the information in that particular message, and save the addendum for future reference when I open the message again in the future. On the message line in the Inbox–and certainly within the message itself–a unique symbol could be used to indicate that an addendum exists. The option of whether or not to include addendums in forwarding and printing could also be offered, and that way an addendum of a more personal nature could be added to a message without having to share it with other people.
Thanks for receiving my comments, Ryan!

I agree with you, Jason, and have a suggestion to Yahoo Mail:
Why don’t you add a feature that, in addition to the above, allows the recipient of an email to DETACH an attached file altogether while at the same time, the name of the attachment is incorporated into the bottom line of the email itself for further reference ?

This would altogether reduce the storage capacity on your servers, too.
With fondest regards ……. Freya

There is a fairly easy and convenient way to do an addendum to a received note. Click on “Forward”; add the text to the note, then click “Cancel”. Answer “Yes” to “Save as Draft?” Then you can pull the note from Draft and put it in whatever folder you wish.

Hi:

I probably don’t read all of these entries, so maybe I’m dupicating, but are there currently plans to revamp the contacts in the new mail? I find it pretty rudimentary, and figgered it was all part of being in beta, but now that the beta period is over, will this be addressed? I’m forced to use mail classic at work, and reminded ALL THE TIME how much easier and robust the Contacts section is over the new mail.

Thanks!

Hey Yahoo Mail team,

Thank you for promptly addressing the random display of text issue. I experienced it yesterday and it definitely caused me some confusion.

Another, equally baffling thing I’ve noticed is that sometimes I’ll send an email and the line spacing is double what I was composing. This has happened both when I compose copy directly into the body and when I copy and paste from Notepad. This can be very annoying, especially when sending an important message. It can make a message look poorly crafted. I hope you guys are looking into this.

Some other suggestions:
1.) Perhaps the WYSIWYG editor should have a “Paste Plain Text” button, like in WordPress.

2.) Allow users to associate reminders/alerts w/ messages (like in Outlook).

3.) Sort by conversation w/in the “View” drop-down menu (ala Gmail)

Thank you,
S

Jason,

There isn’t a form, but perhaps I will create one. When I have tried creating forms in the past they just ended up being submissions from people seeking an alternative for Customer Care.
-
But thanks for the suggestion. I’ll be sure to pass it along as a use case that isn’t being served. :)

Freya,
-
So in your case you would be storing the attachment locally (on our computer) but would want a reference to that file in the original message? If that’s the case it would be tricky (given that you might move, delete, or rename the file once it is on your machine). It could also be hard to manage if you get multiple versions of the same file.
-
That being said, I’ll pass it along as well. After all, our product guys can be pretty crafty when it comes to features.

thanks for the lack of effort you have put into this problem.

Thanks to this “little” bug, a friend of mine reported me to Yahoo abuse because they thought i was trying to hack their account.

Yahoo made this problem even worse by sending my friend and email saying I had forged a header in the email.

Thankfully your online support was absolutely no help in this matter.

In fact Yahoo’s only response to the “0000″ glitch is here…

Not only was I accused of this problem which is yahoo’s but yahoo then turned around and said I forged an email header, making things much worse than they already were.

Thanks for your explaination and lack of responsiblity in this issue, and thanks for labeling me a hacker also. I appreciate it very much.

Thank you for destroying my credibility with this-since I had argued and presented proof I didn’t have anything to do w/the whole 0000 thing, yahoo turns around and says I forged an email header and for some reason I am unable to get any answers about this from anyone at yahoo.

Forgot to mention that the email I sent, was written in Yahoo Mail and sent through yahoo’s mail system…it wasn’t written in Outlook or anything else…all on yahoo’s mail site.

But I forged the headers huh?

In years past when I was in a website with an e-mail used for replies (such as when applying for positions or buying something) I would click on that e-mail and my Yahoo (default) e-mail would open with that e-mail already in the T0: line but now it does not work. I must copy & paste those e-mails and therefore keep 2 browser windows open and toggle back & forth when sending replies to multiple ads. How do I return the original function to my browser and why did nobody from Yahoo answer this question when I asked it before?

Ryan,

Thanks for following up on this. I guess that will put an end to the conspiracy theories that Yahoo is tracking personal e-mail within the USA of it’s own citizens. Well, at least there will be a good cover story now :)

Have Fun,

Gary Jansen

Hi Ryan,

With the RSS feed, sometimes not all of my feeds are there. Sometimes the feed for this blog is in my list of feeds and sometimes it is not. Alos, it seems that sometimes that the reader ‘resets’ because sometimes the reader won’t show which items I’ve already viewed. I’ve clicked on the mail blog feed (when it is indicating that new content has been posted) several times just to see the same post that I’ve seen all week. I don’t know if I’m the only one experiencing this but maybe you know of a solution?

Keep up the good work,
Tripp

You have missed the mark with the latest update to classic mail. I suppose it is too much to ask for a “classic, classic mail”? Or perhaps it should be “Classic mail that works fine and is unemcumbered by people trying to “fix” things so they can say they did something”.

I really do not appriciate you changing things up and making decisions for me as if I were a third grader… I’ve been capable up till now to determine if an email is spam or not, you adding layers of BS onto it for my “protection” is only going to complicate things.

All I want is simple email. If I wanted outlook, I would use outlook - what’s so hard about that?

(please keep in mind that I am not a techie person)

I am a Yahoo user of many years- everything from mail, toolbar, home page, watching what little stock I have, news, yahoogroups and just about everything else.

This newest *update* to Classic mail is causing all kinds of disgruntlement in many of my groups because of the Rich Text. Most groups do not allow attachments (virus/inappropriate attachments) If the owner does not accept attachments then messages sent will not be posted.

The manually changing to plain text is a hassle and the “>” before each line is cluttering.

We didn’t have a problem before the update. Classic was perfectly fine before being revamped and while some of the new things are good (the flagging, placement of signature etc) the user friendly aspect is gone.

As for the *New new* Yahoo mail- I want to be able to set the default ORDER in which the messages are shown. (newest at the bottom) I can click on date and sort them but then everytime you move from one folder to the next you have to continue doing that. Is there any chance that this will be fixed/changed?

When I use all new email I see a space consuming horizontal blue bar that says AT&T powered by Yahoo. It stinks. We need a way to get rid of it.
