New blog URL, same great blog taste!
It may seem like a relatively minor development for all of you, but today marks a big day for the Yahoo! Mail blog.
I’m sure that most of you already noticed, given that you are all very security conscious net wanderers and always keep an eye on the browser address (after all it is Yahoo! Security Month), but just to be on the safe side I wanted to let everyone know that the blog is now officially at www.ymailblog.com. Not only is that FOUR whole characters (and one syllable) shorter than the ymailupdates.com address, but it is much more in line with most of the other Yahoo! Property blogs, is more intuitive, and I think just sounds better. All things that make me very happy.
It really is true what my mom always told me … it’s the little things in life that often bring the most joy. Granted I’ve always assumed that she was trying to sneak by some sort of subtle plug for having babies, but anyway, she was right!
If you shared the old URL with your friends don’t worry, all of the links containing ymailupdates will still work fine. The same goes for all of you who have subscribed to the RSS feed. Noone will have to change anything to continue visiting this blog, however you should all be aware that the URL that will display will now read www.ymailblog.com/…

Good idea on the shorter and more intuitive URL. Now why does the “Recent Reader” widget look so funny in Firefox 2.0.0.13?

That was my fault. I’m in the process of updating the MyBlogLog module (Recent Readers) in the sidebar, and didn’t do it right.

I was just switched from “old” yahoo mail classic to “new” classic. I guess it’s kinda like new coca cola trying to taste like old coke. The new classic is a little different, but is growing on me. Thanks for keeping the “forward as attachment”. I really appreciate that.

I have been having problems with Yahoo Mail’s antivirus checking of attachments. I use Firefox and sometimes but not always (about 75%) the antivirus will not complete and continues and continues. Sometimes the only fix is to shutdown and restart Yahoo Mail.
Yahoo chat help had me wipe out all cookies, history etc and THAT DIDN’T WORK, but now I have to rebuild all the cookies. Its been reported to the “tech engineers” but I’ve never heard back from anyone at Yahoo.
What’s the problem?

For the past year or so, I have been using IzyMail to download the messages from my Yahoo! Mail Classic to Outlook. This stopped working sometime on April 17. I think it was about the same time that I noticed some changes to the Classic interface. Have there been changes to Yahoo! Mail Classic that now prevent IzyMail from working?

Hmm, lot’s of times when I want to stash an email-in-progress in the draft file, because I need a different or better address, I can’t, because the address isn’t acceptable for sending.
Isn’t that the point of having a draft file in the first place? I don’t want to send, that’s why I’d like to place it in the draft file.
Makes sense to me ;-))

Have there been changes to Yahoo! Mail that now prevent YPOPS from sending emails?
YPOPS returns a “554 mail box not available” message but this was not a problem until APril 17th.
If my Outlook 2003 can’t use YPOPS any longer then I don’t need Yahoo Mail … too bad

How about all the problems with even trying to send email to someone with a yahoo address? All yahoo does these days is return 421 and 451 error codes over and over. What is Yahoo doing about this?

Any way we can get disable chat completely? Ever since that feature went in, Firefox is horrendously slow after Y!Mail has been up for a few minutes. The problem is with the Flash plugin for Firefox, though the Mozilla team says it’s how websites are written. Frankly, I don’t care. I would like the flash to not load at all, period, end of story, unless I turn it on.

Why is it that when you send a detailed message to the people at customer support that keep answering like “George” with a form letter stating the same things again. “Go read” is basically what they are saying. Are these people brain dread?
Pissed off because I can’t get mail questions answered logically and distinctly.

I deleted my old email account to start fresh with a new one and forgot to load all of my contacs into my new one before I deleted the old account. I personally think that Yahoo is a wonderful thing, but there deletion process sux. There is just no better way to put it. It takes yahoo 90 days to completely delete your account, yet after you delete it, it takes but mere seconds as to where you can’t get back in. They should give you the option of even a temporary password within a 30 day period to where if you did forget something or change your mind about deleting the account, you are able to access it and do what you need to do even if it is to cancel the deletion. I have heard so many complaints about this and yet we are human we do make mistakes. I think as a suggestion Yahoo might consider allowing a 30 day grace period for those deleting their accounts to reactivate or get what they forgot out of the account instead of “oh well, whats gone is gone.” Just a thought from a very ticked off and upset person.
