Be a part of Liam’s Life, in Yahoo! Mail

Welcome to the Yahoo! Mail Blog. If you are reading this post now there is a reasonable chance that this is your first visit to this blog, so please do take a look around, bookmark it, and come back often for news about Yahoo! Mail!
——————————————————
If you are like me, you first noticed the charming, yet goofy, ambassador for Yahoo! Mail almost two years ago, bouncing and pogo-ing around the beta version of what is now the All-New Yahoo! Mail. Of course, back then I was in the same non-employee boat that most of you are right now. But times have changed and I find myself with the unique opportunity to not only get the skinny on our bespectacled friend, but share that skinny with those folks who don’t have the same insider access that I do.
It all began back in 1973. Born to a rocket-scientist mother and mailman father, Liam began perfecting the Chaplin-esque pratfalls we’ve come to love while establishing himself as the class clown of his elementary school. During his teen years he tried his hand at commercials, as well as music, but ultimately found his place working with his father at the post office.
It wasn’t long though before he had an epiphany. Liam wanted to be a part of the latest evolution of mail…email. As luck would have it, his mom had friends at RocketMail (the email engine that would become the foundation for Yahoo! Mail), and got him a job in the Yahoo! email room. As the product of a rocket-scientist and a mailman, Liam was perfectly suited to advancing communication technology, and emerged as the perfect advocate for Yahoo! Mail.
Though he has found great success in his role with the Yahoo! Mail team, all is not bliss for Liam outside of work…which is where you come in. Soon many of you will have an opportunity to help Liam find similar happiness outside of his job.
Be on the lookout for Liam on the front page of Classic Mail, as well as the Home tab of the All-New Mail. He’ll be mixed in where you probably noticed all of those security themed tips for Yahoo! Security Month. You’ll be able to feed him, exercise him, and try your hand at keeping Liam happy … but you’ll only get the chance for a limited time!

November 2nd, 2008 at 1:26 pm
I don’t think that Liam makes email stationary less perfect. Of course, there are times when it doesn’t fit the moment, but there is different stationary without him on it. I like Laim………..don’t get him off the front page.

Actually, several people care about Liam. Be polite.
November 4th, 2008 at 6:47 pm
FINALLY!!!! A person with some COMMON SENSE!!!! R U an Angel?
October 2nd, 2008 at 7:02 am
emie, I bet you are one of those bored little snotty kids with nothing to do and with no imagination, either. Let those who like Liam do what they want and if you don’t like “Liam” then leave the area alone…
October 4th, 2008 at 10:16 am
And Joyce, I bet you’re one of those boring middle-aged women who can’t have an ounce of fun in your life without there being a sunset or a fondue kit around. But that’s obviously not true; so why do you condescend to someone for some stupid comment made on a website regarding something as irrelevant as ‘Liam’? So take your own advice and let the people who DON’T like Liam do what they want, as well.
October 4th, 2008 at 11:55 am
Well said helicopter, you see a lot from up there. To comment even further to Joyce, “If you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all” But Liem will be fine, there is life after criticism!!!
October 5th, 2008 at 7:02 am
Amen!!!!!!!!!
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:58 pm

October 31st, 2008 at 9:43 am
I think we, obviously, all need to get a life if we are having to comment on some derrogative comment. That includes me, cuz l’m here and it’s my birthday!!
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion!
I think someone should help the Houng person. I would, but I don’t have the resources!!
November 1st, 2008 at 7:20 am
I just adore lian because he has great influence and perhaps a powerful way of getting our message out. I vote keep him. Jan
November 11th, 2008 at 1:59 pm
omg jan u r here i miss u soooooooooooooo much e mail me yea
November 5th, 2008 at 11:57 am
……I think this is turning into a whole lot of sheet! with joyce and the next guy trying to make it an interrogative “battle field”.ur opinions are the only thing required of u and not ur stupid insinuations about other people’s opinions……If u don’t hv what to say, u better help urselves with some other things in ur computer!…………….LET LIAM STAY!
December 4th, 2008 at 6:34 pm
We all need a life here who cares if Liam is there, hes not bothering anyone. Seriously get a life guys and girls who thinks Liam is a bother. Are they so bored and have nothing to do to notice that little guy thats doing nothing at all to you?

October 15th, 2008 at 6:28 am
IF HE WANTS TO EAT THEN LET HIM GET A JOB IT IS HARD ENOUGH TO FEED MYSELF WITH THE ECONOMY THE WAY IT IS I DONT NEED ANOTHER MOUTH TO FEED!!!!!
October 16th, 2008 at 11:34 am
liam should be able to do all of those things by himself, he looks like a grown man!!!!
October 22nd, 2008 at 2:17 pm
He looks like Bill Gates.
November 4th, 2008 at 6:57 pm

November 2nd, 2008 at 1:22 pm
PLEASE GET OUT AND VOTE!!! We have to keep this ridiculous and inexperienced man out of office! Obama is dangerous, he is totally unequipped to run this country, and I question his honesty and patriotism. We can’t afford a socialist president, and we can’t afford to let voter fraud win an election. I beg of you, GET OUT AND VOTE!!! And keep America strong and proud… Don’t let this thing slip through our fingers!!!
November 4th, 2008 at 7:07 pm
R U kidding?!?!@#%!? Obama Rocks!!! McCain is a THEIF, And his own family is no diff. I M ashamed to call him a Veteran, Much less the President of the US! Now, Back to Liam…..

Let Liam languish until the new mail works faster and better.
November 7th, 2008 at 7:00 am
He’s cute but never satisfied – just like real men :)
December 20th, 2008 at 10:23 pm
thats mean leave liam mail alone hater
April 30th, 2008 at 4:45 pm
wow cool! oour own little liam to take care of! haha
~
jsut one Q: will a leim be available for other yahoo acounts in other national yahoos? like say, Yahoo! Deutschland?
April 30th, 2008 at 4:48 pm
Right. No cute mascots. No unnecessary and frilly changes and “upgrades.” Just maintain functionality and stay SERIOUS in the ever-competitive (and increasingly childlike) world of e-mail. I wouldn’t mind IMAP either.
August 1st, 2008 at 2:08 pm
geez you dont have to hate liam cuz kids like him hes soo cute if u dont like then y do u comment on him???
May 1st, 2008 at 5:14 am
Cute! Been waiting for you to do something permanent with the little guy. Wish you’d kept him a little younger looking tho. He’s too grown up and has lost his ‘cuteness’.
July 17th, 2008 at 8:49 am
Keep him looking young! But 2 tell u all the truth, he does NOT look cute.. he also looks like a nerd 2 me
September 17th, 2008 at 8:21 am
true dat
October 5th, 2008 at 11:32 am
Looks like a NERD to me too!
May 1st, 2008 at 10:04 am
I am in full agreement with EM and Skepticalthinker’s points. The Yahoo Mail interface is exceptional otherwise.
May 1st, 2008 at 1:28 pm
i too am with skeptical! don’t need the “excess”. i have a few email accts with brand “X” and so far, yahoo pleases me the most.
May 1st, 2008 at 1:38 pm
Stop breaking what worked. Keep it Simple, imap, pop3, web mail all need to be quick and easy to access. By UMPC, Cellphone, laptop or desktop access should be fast loading, not cluttered. No stupid characters, just function. We turn off the office animations, why would we want them on the web? Yahoo broke everything with the last browser update… They still have not been able to fix what they broke. It was fine, why did you have to break it?
May 1st, 2008 at 2:24 pm
I agree with jfj1724. I’m a little disappointed that Yahoo Mail spent resources on animating Liam and not on features that would make a real impact on users like IMAP.
November 7th, 2008 at 10:10 am
It was probably just a project for someone. Yahoo! is more than likely putting their resources into something more profitable and progressive like finding out ways to compete…
May 1st, 2008 at 7:19 pm
Count me in with those who like Liam. He really lucked out that his mom named him Liam, mail spelled backwards. ;) It was destiny, I’d say.
September 12th, 2008 at 1:32 pm
Heh heh…I never noiced that
September 12th, 2008 at 1:42 pm
I think that Liam rox my sox…but to each his own
September 23rd, 2008 at 5:41 pm
I never noticed his name was mail spelled backwards. Someone was thinking outside the box ;)
Anywho I like Liam. I don’t hate him or anything I mean. And for those of you who think he looks like a nerd there’s a famous saying “Be nice to nerds, because chances are later in life you’ll be working for one”.
Oh and for those of you who think it’s weird people think he is cute we’re not calling him hott we’re just saying he is cute. Grow up please.
September 25th, 2008 at 10:54 pm
you are right, I didn’t notice until you mention about his name. He was born to be the mail man haha
I like him too
October 1st, 2008 at 1:50 pm
Cool. Liam = mail. I never noticed that…
October 1st, 2008 at 1:52 pm
Cool. Never noticed that…
October 7th, 2008 at 10:39 am
I dont get it! is Liam real or did they just make up his story and stuff???
October 22nd, 2008 at 8:43 pm
they make it up dork face
May 1st, 2008 at 7:56 pm
Sub folders and mail tagging are important for me. All the eye candy is irrelevant where there are so many features missoing.
Ran
May 2nd, 2008 at 3:50 am
Liam, you’re simply adorable. Could you stand guard and bounce and pogo all of that SPAM out of my INBOX?
July 20th, 2008 at 6:37 pm
lol that sounds like a great idea. mine too please! it seems like all the spam gets through the filter and the real mail ends up “spammed”…it annoys me to no end
May 2nd, 2008 at 4:50 am
@Chansen- Good one! LOL
May 2nd, 2008 at 6:44 am
Maybe it’s just me, but I find “Liam” completely unnecessary. It just seems like extra clutter on an otherwise great (”the best”) webmail interface out there. As the others have said before me, I would prefer that Yahoo Mail focus its efforts on and introduce the features that Ran, skepticalthinker, EM, and jfj1724 mentioned that we want.
July 24th, 2008 at 7:18 pm
Liam is not unnecessary! He is a fun person for when ur brain hurts from tons of spam! He is a little nerdy, but some of us need a break every once in a while!
September 16th, 2008 at 2:15 pm
I agree totaly! I don’t think Liam is taking away something from our email. If you don’t like it – don’t play with him.
One of the reasons why I prefere Yahoo mail, is because it’s more personal and less cold-professional
May 2nd, 2008 at 8:09 am
Hi everyone,
-
I’m hearing you loud and clear on the IMAP demand, but I also feel like I need to make sure everyone knows that this Liam banner is not a “new feature” for Mail. It is simply going to run in place of what would usually be some sort of banner advertisement.
-
This banner will run for a limited time, and is not some sort of “mail assistant” for Yahoo! Mail.

July 20th, 2008 at 8:43 am
Yeah! I agree with Judy!! Why can’t we have Liam all the time! Like I just went on to my account this morning and i’m like ” OH! This looks interesting I wonder what it is?!” So I clicked the dude and it made my day!!! lol

Megan see that’s why he isn’t there always. I mean if he was always there he would get old and sometimes annoying, but if he is there at random sometimes it’ll make you day :)
July 24th, 2008 at 4:44 pm

September 11th, 2008 at 4:38 pm

oh!poor girl..leave him alone.find someone else to love
October 5th, 2008 at 7:29 pm
Liam is so cute!!
May 2nd, 2008 at 10:00 am
I would like to see in the new mail a “clean” look when forwarding and replying to msgs. Whenever i forward or reply to others messages everything gets all “garbled”. thank you.
May 2nd, 2008 at 10:01 am
i would also like to see free access through outlook or some other desktop software of email. That would be great.
July 17th, 2008 at 1:00 pm
they won’t do that… paid accounts only on yahoo have pop access… seems to me that almost no email service offers pop access on free accounts anymore…
so, pretty much, if you want the ability to pop your email account, you’ll have to upgrade your email account to a paid service…
July 21st, 2008 at 4:09 am
Have you heard of Gmail ? Yep, POP3 access … and free!
Bye Bye Liam, Bye Bye Yahoo, Hello Google!
May 2nd, 2008 at 12:20 pm
What would life be without its silly moments…I hope Yahoo continues to make Yahoo email better – but I enjoy seeing some tender, cute moments in the process. Go Liam.
May 2nd, 2008 at 4:54 pm
I have been with yahoo for a long time and too old to change now. I know other people use other formats but I am happy with Yahoo! until Bill Gates buys you out and then you all will get a million dollars or more..Good luck and don’t spend your bonus in one place..save some for your old age.

May 2nd, 2008 at 6:09 pm
Thank you for hearing us on IMAP. It would really make the overall user experience better. As much as I like Yahoo Mail (And it has the best interface out there by far), integrating it with OS X (Apple Mail) through IMAP would be the ultimate!
May 2nd, 2008 at 11:06 pm
Subfolders would be nice.
May 3rd, 2008 at 12:41 am
I remember well, or do I, it was so long ago. Email came as a wondeful surprise, cost? No long distance charge, just a message passed to a friend thru what was it, wang? Who remembers the date, what was a surprise was, it did not cost an arm and a leg of long distant phone call to pass a message. OMG !!! lol

July 24th, 2008 at 3:38 pm
you know, I am cute ,too. i also like to eat ,exercise, and be happy.
May 4th, 2008 at 12:38 am
Well, this sucks. How about fixing up problems instead of old hat stupid ideas being offered?
May 4th, 2008 at 9:51 pm
My question is…since I have Yahoo Mail Premium that is ad free why should I be forced to view ads in My Yahoo??????
May 5th, 2008 at 9:04 am
Well T-minus a couple hours until MSFT announces the hostile takeover. Let’s hope Liam is not replaced with Clippy from Office when that happens! Ha! (Or maybe not)
May 5th, 2008 at 9:15 am
Ryan-
I wouldn’t call it an “IMAP Demand” from us. Your friends and family who use Yahoo Mail will benefit just the same as us from IMAP and other features that people have suggested on this Blog. (Subfolders, etc.)
I think you should instead see it as proudly offering it as a feature: a way to put yourself above your direct competitors. (One of whom already has it).
Calling it an “IMAP Demand” almost seems to blame us for wanting it. I don’t know if others here see it the same way, but that’s what I think.
May 6th, 2008 at 9:38 am
Nice GIF movie. It’s remember me my “Jump Jump Liam” screensaver you could find here (screenshot+download link):

Let Liam be a part of your life ! :o)
Pastly, I requested at Yahoo! France to publish Liam’s photo album on Flickr or Yahoo! Mail blogs… I renew my request :op
May 6th, 2008 at 10:26 am
EricEM,-
I don’t think that it looks that way at all. To me, ‘IMAP Demand’ simply indicates that users on this blog have been expressing a lot of interest in the feature.

does Liam have a big cock?
October 16th, 2008 at 4:42 am
and your the reason why parents don’t let their kids on the internet alone!
May 6th, 2008 at 11:05 am
Ryan:
I think you meant to direct your response to EM’s comment regarding “IMAP Demand”. I didn’t raise that point.
I do agree that there’s been a lot of interest in this feature, and I’m really looking forward to the day that you offer it, either for free or even as a Premium product. It will certainly make my email experience a lot easier.
May 7th, 2008 at 8:24 pm
for real? cool. can we change his hair style and clothes, too? especially when he exercises, i would think he shouldn’t be wearing that same purple vest. =)
May 11th, 2008 at 12:02 pm
Anyone else getting a server error pop up every few minutes in new Yahoo mail?
May 14th, 2008 at 7:58 pm
Awesome work! Keep it up!! :D
May 15th, 2008 at 12:12 am
I think Liam adds a cool touch to the whole .. it makes the all-day email traffic somewhat nicer/friendlier to be around.
Keep up the good work .. though try not to overload the pages with too much AJAX.
Greetings from a proud member for 11 years and counting
May 15th, 2008 at 6:05 am
Ryan you are doing an awesome job! Keep up the great work, and thanks for the opportunity of a little fun with Liam!

Yahoo!
May 15th, 2008 at 3:23 pm
I don’t mind Liam, the banner is fun for a minute and its limited time thing anyway. And I don’t think they had to put real efforts in developing it. I might have been an hour of Friday afternoon fun work.
Though I do agree with some users on this board that yahoo should focus on simplicity and functionality, rather than looks and bells and whistles.
I have been a yahoo fan ever since it started. As far as I remember, till about 4-5 years ago, yahoo products used to be simple yet feature rich, completely configurable and intuitive. But yahoo’s recent focus seems to have digressed towards looks, bells and whistles for teen audience.
The new yahoo mail just looks cool at first sight, but it is more sluggish, resource consuming, blotted and less intuitive to use compared to the classic yahoo mail.
They really should have just replaced classic email with the same look and functionality with AJAX instead of creating whole new interface.
I am seeing similar thing on all of yahoo products, they are making things overly complex and trying to make them look cooler. The worst example is yahoo messenger. Till version 5 it was the most advanced messenger on the net. Yahoo messenger had voice and chat rooms when most of today’s popular messengers were not in existence. But ever since version 6, it has gone downhill, they made fancy looking skin and add-ons targeted towards teen audience which made it slower and introduced resizing bugs. They have done nothing but introduce bugs in chat client side of code. I doubt if the current programming team even know how chat client works.
Anyway, all I want to say is keep it simple and focus on functionality/configurability.
Its is sad that I have to remind yahoo their own focus/direction for product development. I mean isn’t that what made yahoo made popular. How can you guys forget that yahoo is supposed to be simple, usable and configurable.
Yahoo has had one plus point over google, that google is sleek, but non configurable. I think that is rude. Google team is like, we are the most savvy programmers, what is develop is best (which ofcourse no doubt is), but you have to use it the way “they” like. It won’t be configurable at all. Yahoo has been the most configurable and intutive untill recent years.
May 15th, 2008 at 3:38 pm
will he die if we don’t feed him? :-/
May 16th, 2008 at 3:40 am
Do this with our Avitars!!!
October 29th, 2008 at 11:00 pm
Yeah!!!I totally agree with bridget here.Avatars just stand there and do nothing else. The only good thing is that u can dress them up.dat sucks!!!!
November 7th, 2008 at 10:29 am
This is an awesome idea, I agree!
May 16th, 2008 at 3:51 am
couple of comments. As a visual learner, I love the antics of Liam. As an educator and mom, I am concerned that the only thing he eats is junk food. Shouldn’t he be filling up on salads, soups, and steaks or such? As an international citizen, I am also wondering if you have considered developing a dude that varies with the country he/she represents. For example varying the skin or body type or clothing depending on whether the source is Africa, Asia, or America. Just some thoughts…

I DO NOT LIKE “WHATEVER” YAHOO HAD DONE TO YAHOO E-MAIL! ALMOST EVERYTIME I LOG INTO MY E-MAIL IT WILL NOT LOAD AND I HAVE TO USE THE MAIL CLASSIC! I HATE THIS AND IT HAS MESSED UP MY NORMAL ROUTINE! I WANT MY E-MAIL BACK LIKE IT WAS! THE REGULAR BETA VERSION WAS GREAT! IS ANYONE ELSE HAVING TROUBLE LOGGING IN? I MISS MY E-MAIL………
September 14th, 2008 at 8:36 am
It must be your internet server when I had dial up I had nothing but problems I found a highspeed server that came out to where I live and now I have good e-mails and no problems. You may have virisuses that you don’t know about that will also screw up your computer so grow up and quit you bitching.
May 16th, 2008 at 7:00 am
I think Liam is cute. I like it when he eats the cake. You should make all our avatars to this too!
May 16th, 2008 at 8:25 am
Liam talks to me. He said, “Do you like me?” I said “Hell yeah.” Liam said, “Then drag me over” to which I relpied “Okay”.!!
He’s cuuuutttteeeee!!!
May 16th, 2008 at 9:25 am
Some of the comments remind me of the dissatisfaction with Windows Vista. When you can’t get your system to stop locking up, the fancy “Aero” graphics aren’t that impressive.
By the same token, for some of us, it almost feels like rubbing salt in our wounds when we see “eye candy” like “Liam” (Mail spelled backwards, we get it), when we want things like IMAP, subfolders, faster response times, elimination of random error messages, etc., things that your competitors seems to be able to accomplish without breaking a sweat.
It may not have taken a lot of time or effort to make “Liam”, but it really is the effect it gives, that you have nothing important to work on, that is so annoying.
Speaking of annoying, what’s with the help tips? It would be nice if they popped up if I was having trouble or needed help, but I’ll be working away, not having any problem at all, and up pop 15 or 16 help tips in a row. Pretty un-helpful and annoying, and there doesn’t seem to be any way to turn them off. It completely defeats the purpose of the help system, which is to be helpful, and the tips usually tell me something that I already know! I am happy to be educated, but when a so-called tip interrupts my work to tell me something that I already know, what is the point, exactly? Shouldn’t there be a way to turn this off, if it’s not going to be helpful?
I apologize for my irritated tone but it is very frustrating. I miss the old system. It wasn’t as fancy, didn’t try to second guess me, and WORKED GREAT!
Any chance that these issues will be fixed any time soon?
July 17th, 2008 at 1:04 pm
i agree! *applauds*
May 16th, 2008 at 11:56 am
Well, trying to explain to MY Liam that this man is NOT him ( down to the glasses) is proving a neat trick. He had fun & I did watching him giggle. Liam is autistic; anything that engages him and makes him laugh is a good thing!

Wow. Liam’s cute and all, but what I’d REALLY like is to get my email in a timely manner, ie, the original email should come BEFORE the responses, not two days later. I’ve been using Yahoo! mail since 1994, all but one of those years with my current account. I was going to become a paying customer to get rid of the ads, but a day after I made that decision the email behavior went crazy! I get responses one or two days before original emails on some of my lists, some messages never arrive at all, I’m getting more spam in my inbox, not less, some real messages are getting delivered to my spam folder. It took me a couple days to find a link to get help, and they’re not reading my emails all the way through, just running through a script that doesn’t help. I got so frustrated I quit replying for a while. If it’s not fixed soon I’m going to have to switch to some other email provider (and pay THEM money). If you’ve got time to work on inane animations and produce slow, boggy interfaces to replace quick and efficient ones, how about you fix whatever it was that got broke two or three months ago???
May 16th, 2008 at 2:54 pm
I like Liam. But I usderstand the people that want a more stream line e-mail. I think that there should be a window of oppertunity (like a week or something) where we who like Liam have the option to “adopt” Liam perminantly to our home page, and then after that week any one who does not adopt Liam wont have to have him on thier home page. I also think that little Liam action figures or key chains would be cool. I know, I know, that would be a marketing thing, or a money making thing for yahoo or whatever, but I’d buy one!
May 17th, 2008 at 7:53 am
I Think Liam needs a pet!, how about a Dog, that goes through your Trash can when you want to empty the deleted files. As you know… all work and no play makes Liam a dull thing!
May 17th, 2008 at 9:30 am
I did nothing but exercise him, he’s miserable and hungry, but doesn’t seem that disappointed. WOuld have been nice to seem some more explicit moods.
May 17th, 2008 at 10:49 am
As I’ve said before. Liam is a seemingly unwise use of limited programming resources by Yahoo which could have been spent on substantially improving the mail product itself instead with long needed features such as IMAP. From the other comments in this blog thread, I’m clearly not the only one who believes this.
May 17th, 2008 at 12:25 pm
I, for one, Love Liam! He makes me laugh. I assumed that he was more of an “avatar” of some sort or rather just something to “play” with if you wanted. I never thought it would be a permanant “mail assistant.” I love when he dances!! haha Thanks Yahoo! Some of us DO actually get the point! ;-)
ps. I agree with the above…he does need a dog…and maybe a little “world” of his own…but let’s start with the dog. haha
May 17th, 2008 at 1:01 pm
That little LIam guy at hte side of my e-mail is super cute! Plus you get to feed him and crap!!!!!
May 17th, 2008 at 1:57 pm
liam rocks! but if he had a pet (dog cat fish) it would b e way more exiting.u also need one of him chewing gum and when he blows a bubble it pops all over his face;D
May 17th, 2008 at 1:58 pm

May 17th, 2008 at 6:42 pm
huh, liam is email backwards! interesting! idk what to think about this, it is very, special…yeah, thats the word. waht makes me laugh though is all the people obsessing about email and all that, come on! go outside or something! breath a litte. you’ll live, i promise
May 18th, 2008 at 6:55 am
Great job! It was fun, thanks!!!
I wonder how many times I had clicked fun staffs before sending Liam to do his final exam… ha ha!
May 18th, 2008 at 4:25 pm
I like the way “Liam” spelled backwards is “Mail.”
May 18th, 2008 at 5:49 pm
I’ll admit I don’t know half of the technical stuff people are talking about – I basically use email for social purposes. I agree with the person who said that text appears garbled when you forward or reply. This creates a problem when people are trying to follow last 5 emails, let’s say. . . especially since they are in reverse order, chronologically speaking.
They’re also in reverse order in the inbox since the most recent email is on top. Why not put the inbox in a chronological order so that people can follow the train of thought of a large group of people without there being numerous misunderstandings.
Thanks!
May 18th, 2008 at 6:00 pm
hey yahoo is like the best e mail service thats all i have 4 now! toodles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
May 19th, 2008 at 5:01 am
I think Liam is cool but only if you can turn him on or off. Sometimes I wouldn’t mind having him pogoing around but mostly I like to check my mail and leave it at that.
May 19th, 2008 at 6:59 am
I personally think Liam is cute! :) GO LIAM!
May 19th, 2008 at 7:22 am
I am thinking Yahoo realized that LIAM is MAIL backward….we have a 15 year old Liam and he picked up on that early on.
May 19th, 2008 at 8:01 am
Since we’re talking about what Yahoo should be like. I get spam in my inbox everyday. Its usually people saying they have huge sums of money waiting for me if I send them my name age sex location next of kin etc. I also get a lot of online pharmacy spam in my inbox. It would be nice if Yahoo could have spam guard catch those emails. How did they get my email in the first place? Isn’t my email private? You can’t unsubscribe from these scammers. Is there a place I can report these emails. Seems to be a different email every email. Liam is pointless. He doesn’t die or leave if you don’t feed him or make him happy and who wants a pet adult man anyway? lol Just get rid of my spam, why is it in my inbox?
May 19th, 2008 at 2:11 pm
I am most interested in the three categories that must be maintained to assure the right and proper functioning of a Liam: Food, Exercise, and Happiness. Everything else in life is obviously anecdotal.
Isn’t this the perfect image of how contemporary consumerist-capitalist society views all of us.
Give me food. Give me a Job. And give me Pleasure.
That’s it. So sorry, but beyond these three categories (consumption, labor, and sex), nothing else matters.
And if the system, which all of us have become, doesn’t provide these three things, the subject itself loses meaning.
Yahoo people – I’m sorry to psychoanalyze yr. pet, but, c’mon. Think about the meaning of what you’re doing every now and then. You’re knocking on the open door with this one.
May 19th, 2008 at 3:24 pm

i’ll enjoy this. I liked the background info too.

HEY! YOU LOOK HOTT.
May 19th, 2008 at 8:35 pm
Hey guys, I think this is cute and everybody needs to lighten up a little. If you don’t like it, don’t play with it, but some folks (above child age) enjoy a little mental vacation from time to time. So easy up and let people enjoy themselves, even if that means playing with a silly little character on an email sight. Who are you to deem what is fun and what is not?
May 20th, 2008 at 3:28 am
Yahoo needs to fix the fact that when somthing get fowarded to me the email never looks like the orignal that was sent unless it was from another yahoo email account. Can I get my pictures to stay with my subtitles, is that to much to ask?
If liam is there and does not do anything why is he there. Axe him
May 20th, 2008 at 10:20 am
If he is wasting any of my bandwidth, or processing time I want rid of him. I want a more simple interface so thingsmove along faster. Grr to the morons who like the little cute things that slow me down!!!
May 20th, 2008 at 12:40 pm
Iam also experiencing difficulty logging as Janet T expressed…what’s going on yahoo why do i have to go to mail classic to log in???
May 21st, 2008 at 1:17 am
i played with liam! kinda cool! he loves that chocolate cake for sure! i liked watching him dance and exercise too!
May 21st, 2008 at 3:55 am
Poor Ryan…..You see this is what is wrong with people….wake up my friends…those of you that are whining and complaining…this is a FREE service to anyone….what right do you have to whine???? If you are not satisfied, don’t use it…and leave this poor guy alone…he was trying to do something nice for those of you that might be interested. No one OWES you anything…you want extra features and perfect service? Go BUY it somewhere else!!! I did, however, notice there was one person who, I believe, is paying…that person is excluded from my previous comments… Everyone lighten up and have a nice day….Try looking for the good in life. PEACE
May 21st, 2008 at 5:18 am
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY! i love him!!!
July 31st, 2008 at 11:52 am
i love him too !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m only 11 so he is so funny and cute
May 21st, 2008 at 5:35 am
Dana, I agree with you. People need to get a grip! This is a FREE service to anyone. So, everyone STOP complaining….would you like some CHEESE with that WHINE!!!
May 21st, 2008 at 5:41 am
C’mon people freakin breath…I mean yeah IMAP would be a great add on to the yahoo mail, but the little LIAM thing is cute and you all need to just relax. It takes a lot of time, effort, money, and support to creat all the different technological add ons with out having you pay for a majority of them. You should be glad the don’t change you like crazy for the things they allow you to use on yahoo as it is the way all these other competitors do! I’ve been with yahoo since the beginning and I luv they way this site works, yeah I run into problems every once in awhile, but they always get fixed in good time, unlike some other sites who take forever. THNX Ryan I hope you and all your coworker keep up the great work!!!!!! Y’ll have a hard and long job that not enough people give you credit for maybe if they were in your shoes for a day they’d understand better what y’all have to deal with. I Luv Yahoo!!!!
May 21st, 2008 at 6:43 am
You are AH-May-Zing and I love you!!!
May 21st, 2008 at 6:05 pm
Thank You Ryan, Liam is cute, love the bio. Sorry about the losers that like to complain. Thanks to the people who understand.
May 21st, 2008 at 8:57 pm
omigod hes so cute i wish u could keep him permantently!
May 22nd, 2008 at 6:08 am
Hey,
I think that it is a great idea that we can assist in Liam’s day and make him feel all better. Its just gives you somthing else to do than listening to your boss…Ha Ha just joking I love the idea…keep up the good work over there and keep yahoo #1.
May 22nd, 2008 at 6:56 am
I liked finding Liam this morning. He’s great! He gives me a mini mind break. Thanks for making it fun! Keep up the good work (and ignore all the naysayers).
May 22nd, 2008 at 8:37 am
Well, I for one have not had the problems about which others are complaining. I love Yahoo! Mail – just finished fully jumping ship from a paid MSN account, in fact. I have no idea what “IMAP” is, so I didn’t even know we didn’t have it. Small tip for people having trouble with the new interface: Don’t use it. You still have the option of using Classic, like I do.
As for Liam, one of the things I love the most about Yahoo! is the lighthearted, “let’s not take ourselves TOO seriously” attitude I see in all their products (Mail, Messenger, in general). I see the temporary Liam banner as a reflection of that.
Just my two cents.
May 22nd, 2008 at 6:42 pm
I like Yahoo mail. My brother ask my sister if there was a job he could get without working with people. He is shurch a loner these days. Maybe something on the internet would be good for him. Anything? I’m asking you out there.
Thank You!
May 23rd, 2008 at 6:24 am
How come I don’t have Liam on my Yahoo Plus yet???
May 23rd, 2008 at 12:42 pm
i like yahoo mail a lot because you can chat and get email at the same time it so funky fresh . I like that liam dude he”s cool!!!!!!!!
May 23rd, 2008 at 11:11 pm
I HATE the new email – came to yahoo to get away from Outlook. I went back to classic immediately. And I am also having the problems with emails not showing up and ads not loading. Also, when forwarding emails, I get a lot of junk in the message. EW.
Liam is neither here nor there for me – just something else I can ignore.
May 24th, 2008 at 3:07 am
I like the little guy. But there are people who need fast loading email service on the go, and powerful features to accomidate it aswell. Let it be an option during sign-up, and for the existing users, an option to turn off if desired. I would like fun things in my email service “at home” and serious powerful email at work. Just my 2 cents.
May 24th, 2008 at 5:06 am
ryan, i love liam! in this world, you will always have people who just focus on the negative. however i’m sure adding “life” to liam does not detract from the functionality you will continue to enhance and takes no time at all for your staff to do in this day and age. plus, he’s not obtrusive like that annoying paper clip and dog, and my kids love him! especially when the ostrich runs after him!! thanks!
May 24th, 2008 at 6:46 am
I find it interseting that all the people who don’t have the ti;me to “be with Liam” can take the time to comment and read all the comments to keep responding. Personally I could care less. If you choose to use it fine if not, move on.
May 24th, 2008 at 6:56 am
let yahoo mail stay like it is as far as liam he’s cool ilike seeing him always has tips and stuff like that i been using yahoo now for years and don’t want to have to end up paying for it.they have been so many letters sent out and i received quiet a bunch saying yahoo is closing down is that true i hope not i love yahoo mail and that cute little liam an another thing i wanna say is i have no problems with yahoo mail even with yahoo classic but everybody needs to lighten up and quit whinning and support yahoo i know yahoo has a few glitches but no progam or anything is perfect another thing DON’T SELL OUT TO BILL GATES!!! that being said keep things the way they are enuff said
May 24th, 2008 at 7:56 am
This is soooo cute!
I love it!
I would like to be able to move him to the side bar to keep him there!
Great idea!
Now I have my own Liam PET!
May 24th, 2008 at 10:07 am
I have no opinion on Liam either way I figure if you like it cool, if you don’t get over it. I think Ryan is hot though LMAO!
July 20th, 2008 at 12:08 am
ya ryan is sexy lol
May 24th, 2008 at 1:18 pm
don’t try to fix what isn’t broke. IMAP wouldn’t be bad though
May 24th, 2008 at 1:31 pm
The important thing in communication is to hear what isn’t being said…..It’s all good, if it makes you Happy:)
May 24th, 2008 at 8:17 pm
Why? Um, just one more way to waste my time, or is there a point?
May 25th, 2008 at 6:40 am
your cool
May 25th, 2008 at 9:13 am
What can you do about all the other irritating ads on my email page? I am soooooo sick of looking at the woman with the wrinkling skin!
October 3rd, 2008 at 10:11 am
all those ads in the right side bar…………..agree they are maddening – having to clk every second or so……………..yes you can get rid of …by paying Yahoo $20 per year…………
why can’t we have a choice………….at least when you clk it off it will stay off for an hour or so………..
May 25th, 2008 at 11:39 am
Why is it a limited time?? I love Liam!! He’s my favorite. We should be able to do stuff with Liam whenever we want to…
May 25th, 2008 at 1:57 pm
Personally, I think that the people who are complaining so much about Liam need to get a grip. You’re going to complain about a FREE service because they don’t do things the way you prefer it?? This makes me wonder how close minded people are becoming. No one wants to deal with changes and usually those changes are harmless or for the better. I, for one, have not had any problems with my e-mail except for slightly more spam coming into my box, which I then use the SPAM button for and get on with my life. I’ve been using Yahoo Mail for 12 years and if I have any complaints at all it’s that they have to listen to people who have no concept of what it takes to put together a program like this and keep it running well. If you have problems with the e-mail then that’s what the TECHNICAL SUPPORT is there for. Use it, get over it and get on with your life. If you don’t like Liam IGNORE him. If you want faster mail while you’re at work create an account for work and leave it as classic mail. Have a personal account for home to use however you dang well please. If you have suggestions about improvements I’m sure there’s someplace designated to put forth ideas, personally I would think that if they started adding more to the e-mail they will have to start charging for it. I don’t need to pay for something I can use for free. I doubt they would seriously intentionally put something on the e-mail that would cause things to run sluggishly or worse when they’re constantly trying to come up with ways to make it run better. I like the newer mail look and I am NOT a child. Get a life people.
May 25th, 2008 at 5:56 pm
People are in here whining like babies. If yahoo is your only e-mail address then shame on you. Yes yahoo has some flaws, the one that annoys the crap outta me is the SPAM…I just don’t use yahoo as much anymore because of it. But I still use it from time to time. I’m not going to whine because I have bigger things to tackle…if you are in here bashing Ryan and Liam you really need to step away from the computer and spend some time outdoors. Express what your issue is and step until the handle it…until then, use another source and zip it!
May 25th, 2008 at 7:33 pm
not sure what tis is. But it is fun……….. Why do you do this????????
May 26th, 2008 at 8:40 am
I played with him alittle..hes cute!..I do wish my avitar was more like him tho..Feedable, Playable, Relaxable..that would be awesome!..But thanks for the play toy! =)

May 26th, 2008 at 6:08 pm
What!?! Limited time only!?! I would love for Liam to stick longer, MUCH longer! He’s cute! He’s a good for a periodic laugh break. Everyone needs them at least once a day, whether the sourpusses wish to admit to it or not.
If you must take him away from his current banner spot in order to make space for paying advertisers, then could you make him an optional permanent feature elsewhere for those of us who are Liam fans?
THANKS!
May 28th, 2008 at 5:31 pm
Thanks, just brought me a smile, sometimes my days are weighed down with to much work. It’s refreshing to run into liam now and then. Thanks again for breaking up my monotony. Just like today.
May 28th, 2008 at 8:42 pm
I wanna take care of my Avitar in this way! A little fun never hurt anyone.
May 29th, 2008 at 12:36 pm
Liam is adorable! Keeping him happy, fed, & exercised is nearly as challenging as with my kids! LOL!
Hey, will you guys please smooth out my Yahoo!Mail functions when you have a quick moment? Everything’s been slow & jerky, I’ve been bounced out of my own mailbox repeatedly, & someone else has been into it! It’s made working rather tricky. Thank you so much for your kind attention to the strange goings-on in Yahoo!Mail.
And…thank you for little Liam… he’s just too, too cute.
Ciao…DJ

YAHOO MASTER….PLEASE HELP or at least tell me what is WRONG??? Every time I try to log in to my e-mail…….it WILL NOT LOAD! I have to use the classic….yuck! I really like the beta version, but please tell me what is going on with the ‘LOADING’ …..since Liam? I am having the same problem at my office computer. If I use Mozilla to open my mail…I have no problem…but with Internet Exp…I am very upset. If it has noting to do with the New Guy in Town…OK, BUT ever since he arrived…..I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS AND IT IS DRIVING ME NUTS. Please Respond. Thanks.
May 29th, 2008 at 1:53 pm
You should deffantly do this with our avitars! Also, could you like make him do more things. I get kinda bored after about 3 1/2 minuts!

When I open Yahoo Mail, I want to go to my Inbox. Not the News page. It’s Yahoo Mail not Yahoo News.
May 30th, 2008 at 7:08 am
I LOVE LIAM! I would like to have my own “pet”.
May 30th, 2008 at 7:00 pm
I love Yahoo and have been a loyal user for many years- I prefer it to others, free or otherwise, and they all have problems-
Liam is cute and I haven’t had a chance to check him out yet but I had to respond to some of these WHINERS and agree with some of the other posts-If you don’t like it don’t use it! It’s free for cripes sake! Geez!
May 30th, 2008 at 7:57 pm
i think this rocks! helps distract from the mundane, and adds fun to my day! would not change anything!

May 31st, 2008 at 9:30 am
I like Liam. He’s cute. Back off haters. :D
June 1st, 2008 at 4:34 am
Liam cracks me up! Why don’t you put him permanently on yahoo as a virtual friend, so he can be on your screen whenever you want him?
The only question I have for yahoo is why does a lot of my mail go into people’s spam box anyone else have that problem?
June 1st, 2008 at 9:26 am
Ok–this is just bizarre and I wondered how you knew my son’s name… I have a toddler named Liam (and yes I know that spelled backward his name is mail.)
June 1st, 2008 at 10:35 am
I’m on the side of the “there’s already too much to do ” catagory. I also feel that if I ‘have’ to take care of something, then let me ‘choose’ if it’s to be animal or vegtable or cat or dog or gril or boy or black or white!!??? Choces, it’s all about being able to CHOOSE!!!!!!! GRAN-E
June 1st, 2008 at 9:42 pm
I love it!! Such a terrific stress breaker…Liam should stay!
June 2nd, 2008 at 1:03 am
Liam for President! LOL! ;~) I like Liam. He’s already been a Yahoo mainstay and virtual friend. Friends eat, exercise and stay happy together. It’s a cute idea and most of us could use a daily moment to de-stress with Liam.
June 2nd, 2008 at 5:47 am
Why is there no ability to opt out of this? Bear in mind, Microsoft’s “Clippy” died a welcome death, for very good reason.
June 2nd, 2008 at 1:01 pm
I like waht Liam does to ensure that Yahoo.com stays updated, but I think that Liam could use a few friends at Yahoo. I think it would be great to create a 3-dimensional avatar of ourselves while we send e-mail, chat, browse internet or even send Instant messages. Liam could use a bit of company and spend some quality time socializing.
June 2nd, 2008 at 7:52 pm
Do you really think that it is possible for people to have an ego any larger than already exists? Come on! Nobody cares about a little animated facet that you can feed with imagination. Yeah!! It makes my email so much better. How about hacking into Nigeria and putting a bullet between the eyes of those a**h***s that continually send me garbage (spam) about making me wealthy?! Huh?! Huh?! Well how about that?
September 21st, 2008 at 3:58 pm

one thing, I love the dance moves Liam has, they are great and so cute. I prefer this over those annoying advertisements that appear whenever I check my email. Oh yeah I like Deidra’s idea… =)
June 3rd, 2008 at 10:47 am
I keep getting a notice that says I have 9 e-mail messages everytime I open Yahoo Mail, it’s been like this for almost a week now.
Is there something that can be done about this problem?
Thank-You for your time
Lori
June 3rd, 2008 at 2:24 pm
I like the Liam’s life thing but could you add a few more things like more ways to excercise, feed,
and keep him happy? If so, that would be awesome!
June 3rd, 2008 at 8:07 pm
I think Liam needs a girlfriend.
June 4th, 2008 at 4:12 am
He’s so adorable! His history was neat to know. Wish we could send him in emails doing different things (like the smiley faces who do all sports, holidays, emotions, etc.).
June 4th, 2008 at 5:08 am
I love the little guy. I think it’ll be fun. But I do have a problem with Yahoo, my IM keeps shutting down, then restarting. I try to keep a conversation going with someone and constantly every couple minutes or less it’ll shut down.
June 4th, 2008 at 10:57 am
Liam is soooo adorable!!!! he needs to change some things though. 1). He needs contacts, so then he can get rid of the ugly glasses he has. 2). he needs to get some more up-to-date-clothes to wear, like jeans, a t-shirt with the yahoo! sign on it or something and some nice puma gym shoes!!!! then if he were a real person, maybe I would even go out with him!!!!!!!!
June 4th, 2008 at 1:51 pm
You guys need to understand! If you want to have such a clean mailbox, make your own mail!!!!!!!
People like me don’t mind Liam because I can HAVE FUN very now and again!
June 4th, 2008 at 6:46 pm
Oh you people who whine about this. Get over it! If you dont like Liam, dont play with him! Its not like it is required! And this is a free email service! Be grateful you have it!
September 21st, 2008 at 3:56 pm
I definately agree. Whiners: EXIT!
June 4th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
Go Lily! Why do people seem to take everything as a personal affront? Glad I’m not the only one that feels this way. You sure can tell who thinks they are the sun and who realizes the world doesn’t revolve around them. Liam has been around a long time, lurking…bouncing….whatever, I hardly even notice him, so why is this such a big deal?
June 5th, 2008 at 12:02 pm
It would be nice to be able to use the same email account I have had with yahoo for years. However the options, functions and capablities I get with GMAIL are by far superior to Yahoo. Please Upgrade Yahoo to at least be equal to or better then GMAIL. Please Entice your users to stay with more then just an annoying little cartoon guy. Thanks
June 5th, 2008 at 2:33 pm
I love this little guy, and the activity he can perform just by a click of your preference.
He could stand to be a little bit younger and stay that way, forever…hahaha
By-in-large, thanks for a fun charactor
You really have some extra time on your hands, lol
June 5th, 2008 at 8:02 pm
I was using the new mail and went back to classic. Either way, they both can take way too long to load. I’m a busy person and don’t have all day to wait to read my e-mail. And why is it e-mails take forever to come through? Or why can’t I receive e-mail from a hand-held, such as a Blackberry? Tried it a few times with a friend’s Blackberry and the e-mails never came through. Any answers, Ryan?
June 6th, 2008 at 7:30 am
I like him.It is fun amd we all need a little fun in ouer lives.
June 6th, 2008 at 11:57 am
I think that the people telling previous posters to “calm down”, don’t really understand some of the complaints. People are not necessarily upset with not having certain features (although some are), but more so that the new features and changes have not really been for the better. Yes, it is a free service. And yes, you can still use the classic version. But I think the complaints are more about unused potential, than just bashing Yahoo! for not having all the features they want.
Personally, I use the newer version. Although I agree classic is more streamlined. But for me, Yahoo! is still the best service. So I will keep using it, and hope that the staff listens to some of the “complaints”. As well as integrate things like Liam, for people who appreciate it.
June 6th, 2008 at 3:27 pm
Hey and I really love this. I was told that Yahoo! makes cellphones now. Isn’t that great?
And check out that $5,000 phone? I have it!!!
June 7th, 2008 at 5:31 am
Functionality of yahoo seems good to me. Ofcourse you don’t miss what you’ve never had, and I don’t even know what IMAP is. My emails get there, and I have plenty in my inbox. Seems good. Liam or whatever, its nice to smile. Healthy even. And if he is just replacing some of the ads…great! Just a guess…but I don’t think Liam probably absorbed too many yahoo braincells to put in place. Maybe IMAP is on the way, too.??? (whatever that is)
June 7th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
what is this all about, i dont get it
June 8th, 2008 at 5:17 am
Hey, whatever turns your crank I say..but for me Liam is a non issue…he is cute, but after clicking on the three buttons once, I realized he wasnt enough to keep my attention for very long. What would turn my crank would be the ability to set up alerts and rules to move important mail to designated folders instead of looking through all the jokes and the spam that filters dont catch. I have limited time to spend in email everyday , and I use the new Yahoo mail. Love the look. I also like the preview pane..definitely a plus. I believe you guys at Yahoo are working hard at making Yahoo mail the best it can be and you have come a long way in that direction in the years I have been using it. Keep up the good work and thanks for putting these blogs here so you can get a good idea of what you can do to keep your loyal users happy too. (no cake, just a better Yahoo Mail experience)
June 8th, 2008 at 3:07 pm
I think Liam is cute.
I don’t like the new version of Yahoo! mail though. Or their “new classic” where you CAN’T make an avatar.
June 8th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
I think Liam lives in the apartment above me. Just kidding, that’s a totally cool idea and I’m always in my yahoo mail. He will be well taken care of. :-)
June 9th, 2008 at 5:39 am
“i would also like to see free access through outlook or some other desktop software of email. That would be great.”
Comment by tracy — May 2, 2008
Yahoo will never offer free POP access because they make money off of the banner ads in the free web-based version. Of course you’re thinking “what about Gmail”? Gmail can afford to offer free POP access because they make so much money on their banner as on their search engine. Yahoo’s search engine is less popular so their banner-ad market must come out of the email interface. I don’t mind personally BUT I would like some way to download messages from your Yahoo account so that I can archive them locally. This would free up Yahoo’s server space and get old emails that I want to keep out of my Yahoo account and into my local archives. I don’t mean full POP access, but just some way to download messages out of an archive folder into .msg or .html format for easy archiving.
June 9th, 2008 at 6:11 am
Hi Ryan,
I think both you and Liam are kinda hot…are either of you single? I’m looking! lol
June 9th, 2008 at 8:49 am
Liam doesn’t even have a mouth!! How does he eat? Not a huge fan of the guy. Hope you didn’t waste millions of dollars and time creating him. Just keep yahoo simple and working well. Othewise people will just defect to gmail in droves, as many have already.
June 9th, 2008 at 10:58 am
Cute Liam! I’m eager to take care of you!
June 9th, 2008 at 11:32 am
I honestly love the way u guys have set up the new yahoo its beta

June 9th, 2008 at 12:43 pm
OMG! liam is the cutest thing ever! he kinda looks like my dad!hahahaha! people, LIAM is the awesomest person ever so just shut up and play with him
June 9th, 2008 at 12:48 pm
Can you make a place where you customize your own little person? And feed your own person on your yahoo mail? It would be a big hit! The little Liam dude rocks!

June 9th, 2008 at 5:44 pm
We don’t have enough to do than keep a “virtual pet” Liam amused and happy? Why go to the trouble to do something so silly. Technology has become completely ridiculous.
June 9th, 2008 at 5:47 pm
I love the new mail and Liam is so cute. Keep up the good work guys!
June 9th, 2008 at 5:49 pm

Liam is sooo cute, Those of you who don’t want him then by pass him and leave him alone. I to have been with yahoo for several years and Like the little guy.
STOP WHINING and move on with what ever you do and leave Liam to those who like/love him. Get a life and stop complaining.
June 9th, 2008 at 8:04 pm
Great, just what we nheed. Something else added to Yahoo mail that probably won’t work.
Just another waste of time I’ll bet.
June 9th, 2008 at 8:06 pm
Liam is so cute !!! can’t wait to take care of him!! He needs a pet.
June 9th, 2008 at 8:08 pm
NEED IMAP SERVICES….. !
June 9th, 2008 at 8:46 pm
I don’t mind having my own little Liam to take care of and distract me from the important stuff I’m supposed to be doing, but obviously there are plenty of people who do. You should make it an option that the servers will remember, like any account variable.
Also, I’m gonna Google IMAP, since it’s apparently the greatest and most necessary thing ever. Before I have my own opinion, I will demand that you add it.
June 9th, 2008 at 8:52 pm
Can I feed Liam my Spam? LOL
June 9th, 2008 at 9:17 pm
[...] yahoo se lauda cu Liam comunicatul aici [...]
June 9th, 2008 at 9:26 pm
I love Liam and have saved all the little Liams we can drag into our email. Very cute little guy! (I saw someone figured out that Liam is mail backwards, very clever!)
June 9th, 2008 at 9:33 pm
I love Liam! He’s so adorable! You guys should make so Liam is actually interactive with our mail.So If you want to read your mail, Liam could retrieve it for you( by dipping off into a mail box and reappearing with the mail you’re looking for.)Cool Idea huh? Or Watch Liam Field Goal Kick your spam out of the park!!! That would Literally be a Kicker!LMAO!
June 9th, 2008 at 9:35 pm
So.. what happens if we fill up Liam’s little counters all the way for his food, happiness, and exercise? I vote for one year of free web site hosting… :)
June 9th, 2008 at 9:59 pm
This will only be available for a limited time? That makes me sad…. Can you make it available for us on our My Yahoo! page or something permanently? I heart Liam!
June 10th, 2008 at 2:20 am
I love Liam’s Life because it make people feel happy.
its very fun and keep me Happy

I love Liam. I think he is cute and to get a chance to interact with him..all the better. And I don’t think he is too old looking. I think he’s just right. Including his costume.
June 10th, 2008 at 4:33 am
this is funy ass hell
June 10th, 2008 at 4:44 am
Life’s too serious…Liam adds a little humor…if I don’t have the time, I don’t have to deal with him…if I do, then he’s a refreshing and funny break from reality! Thanks for having Liam available!
June 10th, 2008 at 4:52 am
look at liam go!…he dances funny…these other ppl need to lighten up…
June 10th, 2008 at 5:16 am
Don’t it seem like people have a lot of “lets see how much of my life moments I can waset today” time on their hands. You would think they would want to FEED a real child,God only knows theres enough of them out there, but that takes a real effort.
June 10th, 2008 at 5:21 am
I love Liam! How cute… one thing though. Can Liam help the Yahoo guys set up an email receipt system… so we can tell if our “sent” email has been received, or opened?
Uh oh.. gotta check on Liam… he looks hungry!
Terri
June 10th, 2008 at 6:03 am

Isn’t Liam a Chinese name? Why is that boy Liam doesn’t have a black hair or Asian complexion?
Just curious.
June 10th, 2008 at 6:41 am
Oh! One more thing! Look at the way he crosses his arms! Geeeeesssss!!! hahaha… I’m definitely convinced he’s one of my kind!
Hey Liam, are you one of us? hahaha….
June 10th, 2008 at 7:23 am

June 10th, 2008 at 8:01 am
welcome on board
June 10th, 2008 at 8:26 am
Childish. Please offer a “No Liam” option.
June 10th, 2008 at 8:37 am
Lian rocks!! He’s so cute! Couldn’t we do the same thing with yahoo avatars though? Most of us have work emails that have no frills, and i use my yahoo for personal stuff, so its fun to have little things like Liam.
June 10th, 2008 at 8:57 am
Make it go away. It’s annoying and superfluous.
June 10th, 2008 at 9:06 am
This is so wonderful. All my children are grown and out of the house. This will give me something to take care of. I’m allergic to cats and dogs.
He is adorable and would be proud to have him as part of my net family.
June 10th, 2008 at 9:15 am
Hi,
Yahoo mail is always gr8..comes with some surprising features like unlimited storage, chat in mail etc.
But one thing its missing is free IMAP support like gmail :)

June 10th, 2008 at 10:01 am
I would love to have him to take care of because it sounds exciting and challenging!
June 10th, 2008 at 10:07 am
I like Liam and he makes me smile when he does his silly things, we all need to smile in this country now adays. Can’t go out because of gassssssssssssssss prices out of control so I play around with Liam . Each to his or her own.
Love him.
June 10th, 2008 at 10:13 am

June 10th, 2008 at 11:27 am
well in indonesia yahoo maps already available for phone like gmail..coz we have the imap setting there
June 10th, 2008 at 11:45 am
Maybe I’ve missed it, but Yahoo doesn’t seem to use many female figures. How about mixing it up a bit? Also, I second the question of one poster several weeks ago who asked whether Yahoo uses different racial/ethnic avatars in different countries. I don’t think that got answered.
June 10th, 2008 at 11:53 am
Please allow the ability to remove Liam from one’s yahoo mail page. I am not interested in machines or corporations attempting personification. It has a sickening quality to it.

To Whom From Yahoo,
Guys, I really appreciate your free email and new Yahoo mail. I’ve used my email address more than 8 years. So, I don’t want to change. But seriously, a lot of time, my email simply didn’t work. I had to switch, sign-off and do everything possible to get one message over and over again. So, please consider about those technical issues. Also, I had difficulty to communicate with one of my friends. I missed several emails from him. When I asked about that he said he sent. Same thing happened to me when I send to him. He just didn’t receive it, even in the scam email folder. It’s awful. I don’t know what’s going on. But I think seriously there is bug to be debugged.
I know that I can’t leave offline msge to one of my friends too. She also can’t. Just wanted to say about those technical problems.
Regards,
Anarmaa

Liam is liek totally awesome. Kinda like the Giga-pets of the 1990s. Let’s keep the little dude. Always but make him able to intercommunicate with us. It’d be fun to communicate with Liam, and it’d make it more of a friendship he and I would probably enjoy.
June 10th, 2008 at 9:33 pm
I have always saved the animated Liam’s in My Pictures folder. Thats how i loved them. Thanks.
Is Liam a real person? :)

June 11th, 2008 at 4:48 am
do you have any interactive sites for the avatars? wait i’ll just check the search engine. and i would like to put my avatar in emails. if there is a way, i don’t know how.
June 11th, 2008 at 5:06 am
One BIG Question – Why is his name Liam? Ie. why was that particular name chosen? It is Scottish I think, and a very unusual name these days, isn’t it?
June 11th, 2008 at 6:05 am
Liam’s so cute! I will take care of him!
June 11th, 2008 at 6:12 am
OMG! My own little Liam! I always thought he was a cute little adorable dude, now it’s my chance to take care of him! Yeah! :]
June 11th, 2008 at 6:32 am
That’s really cool! But for some reason, I get the helpful hints to drag onto my messages, and my friend gets all of these fun little pictures of Liam doing various things like being a super hero or a sumo wrestler!
June 11th, 2008 at 6:48 am
I think it’s funny when liam tries to pick up the weights!!! ha ha ha
June 11th, 2008 at 6:53 am
You r totally hilarius
June 11th, 2008 at 7:21 am
I think this is cute! I love it! What a fun little way to get rid of the adverts for a while.
June 11th, 2008 at 7:43 am
this something nice, pretty cool, but the good thing is you don’t need to get out of your home to do this, =)
June 11th, 2008 at 7:52 am
I agree with others who think it’s distracting, and I too hate the wrinkled face ad banners. I am a busy person, with a life and have more important things to do with my time, than play with Liam.
My email is important to me for family and Banking, and necessary things, don’t need more junk added. Agree also with the SPAM problem, I thought if we marked it as spam, it would not keep comeing back. I only want to hear from ones in my address book!
I keep going back to Yahoo mail Classic, some days it changes itself, I have to keep changing it back.
This is not complaining, just explaining, and agreeing with other comments. My 2 cents worth, Thanks,
BF
June 11th, 2008 at 8:10 am
wow… liam is really weird. my friend had liam on one of her emails, do you have to pay to get those?
June 11th, 2008 at 8:15 am
Awww Liam is so cute! He looks just like my former postman. I wanna mary him 8->
June 11th, 2008 at 8:16 am
i love that ideal. i always look in the corners to see what whacky thing he’s doing. i even save some as pictures.
June 11th, 2008 at 8:17 am
I love yahoo, as you can see when i say that my two biggest problems with it is one: that yahoo messenger, when I’m chatting from my inbox, doesn’t save my message logs.
two: that when i’m writing an e-mail or chatting from my inbox, there are those ad banners that have to be minimized every time i re-open that tab. so are you saying that this new liam thing will be taking the place of those banners? i still don’t like anything being there, even if it is liam. the only time i was ok with it was when he was “draggable”. like last summer when we could drag him, doing different things, into our e-mails :). so if there are yahoo workers out there reading this, maybe these things (along with IMAP) could be fixed/added?
June 11th, 2008 at 8:18 am
well mr or ms. or mrs. or it billie that is complaining! and nobady wants to hear your complainin about liam cuz hes kewl and your jealous. and im very sorry if all you have is two cents. he is not distracting and i have way to much time on my hands cuz its summer and i have nothing to do past 10:30 in the morning. so, i think you should suck it up and deal with liam’s awesomeness
June 11th, 2008 at 8:24 am
His ad are (feed me, exercise me..etc) too funny. I accidentally blurted out at word in laughter!
Keep those ads coming
June 11th, 2008 at 8:30 am
i like liam, but he needs to do more stuff.i mean come on only eat, exercise,& laugh.wat abot slep talk invite friends.needs more!!!!!!!
June 11th, 2008 at 8:46 am
I too am in favor of limiting the bouncy silly stuff and creating imaginary friends. It would be much nicer to see yahoo spend its energy on things that improve the service instead of clutter and slow it. For thos that want to take this thing for a walk….I just dont get it.
June 11th, 2008 at 9:27 am
I like it, but need something more to do
June 11th, 2008 at 9:29 am
oo,,liam is so cute…i wanna take care of him,,,,pleez let me have a lil liam,,,,,i will feed him and take care of him and call him my very own!!!!,,oh yeahh,,,liam,,,r u single???,,,lol,,,joking,,,im taken but wat the heak,,,it is still nice to know!!i have friends that would look good with u!!

June 11th, 2008 at 9:34 am
can you keep im there permanently.
June 11th, 2008 at 10:18 am
How do you craet a person on this asome web?
June 11th, 2008 at 11:01 am
everyone has there own opinions about yaho but personally i think it’s the greatest around and liam only brings a cute friendly setting to the already great yahoo mail.
ive been with this site for several years now and never before have i had such quick user friendly settings. yeah a ffew spam show up now and again but this site is free friendly and awsome in every way (altough having subfolders would be cool)
June 11th, 2008 at 11:10 am
liam is sooo cool
June 11th, 2008 at 11:15 am
cool!! nice outfit liam.
June 11th, 2008 at 11:30 am
Why did you change the way the draft box works ?? before you saved a draft and you could go back it it later and use the draft but the copy would still remain in draft so you could go back and use it again it was quite useful if you emailing the same thing over and over again but now if you use a draft message it gets removed from the draft box Please change it back to the way it was!
June 11th, 2008 at 11:32 am
Since I get to fed and clothe him and the expense is kept on my records;; Is he a tax write off?? If so I want him younger to get the child care deduction, but old enough to get college deductions also???!!!
June 11th, 2008 at 11:52 am
I don’t understand how anybody could find adding this to Yahoo mail offensive. If anything, this will be an interesting time waster while we wait for urgent emails.
June 11th, 2008 at 12:11 pm
Liam is very repetitive and slow. Isn’t worthy wasting space on the screen. I do not want to feed a bloke. Can I have a German shepherd running all over the place please?
June 11th, 2008 at 12:17 pm
Cute!! Does he do house work?
June 11th, 2008 at 12:31 pm
be happy
June 11th, 2008 at 12:42 pm
I think Liam is very cute and a cool guy, jaja, great dancing steps. I’ll take care of him.
June 11th, 2008 at 12:44 pm
It is so cute! Just like having a puppy!
June 11th, 2008 at 12:50 pm
I LOVE LIAM He is so cute! I think it is great to see him and it brings a smile of relaxation! In such a messed up world! For all You who don’t like him look the other way!C’mon how could you ignore him?TRy a mile fot the day it HELPS! Paula Budd
June 11th, 2008 at 3:04 pm
i think liam has great potential, but i get bored with him. if you’re going to keep him around, he’s going to have to get a life. if i had more options, i’d drag him into more emails. liam needs to keep ME happy. ;-)
June 11th, 2008 at 3:08 pm
While Liam is certainly cute, I hope Yahoo is working on some the more serious issues. For example, since I’m using an English-language email account, it fairly obvious I prefer an English-language home page. Regardless, Yahoo continues to bounce me to the German Yahoo home page whenever I close my USA email account.
Since it’s a global economy today, with millions living outside their native countries (I’m an American simply living in Germany at the moment), the ISP domain is just not a good indicator of the person actually using the computer.
I’ve submitted suggestion after suggestion to this effect, all of which were appearantly ignored.
June 11th, 2008 at 3:09 pm
hi everyone
June 11th, 2008 at 3:16 pm
Cool! I wonder if Liam is REAL! Is he? >.> Well, thanks for having me here. I think this whole Liam (or maiL) thing is totally insanely, randomly, and brilliantly A-W-E-S-O-M-E and C-O-O-L!!!!!!!
June 11th, 2008 at 4:12 pm
Wow did you hit a nerve!!! I was hoping your little guy could evolve into a more lifelike avatar. As far as feeding him and changing his clothes, I don’t know, I’d have to be pretty bored. I would much rather have you working on making our emai experience more functional. I think our email is way ahead of other sites I have tried but still needs some refinement. Keep thinking!!!
June 11th, 2008 at 4:17 pm
im confused
June 11th, 2008 at 4:48 pm
Can we have a button labelled “IMMOLATE ME”?
June 11th, 2008 at 5:59 pm
aww… poor liam being tortured by everyone. hey i do have a question. why does liam only eat cake popcorn and ice cream? it a SUPER bad influence to little children!!!! i also think that they could make him some kind of avatar or something. it got REALLY boring after a while. ;0
June 11th, 2008 at 6:12 pm
i love liam but make more interesting.
June 11th, 2008 at 6:45 pm
i love that little guy but he needs a mouth…maybe a nose too…well, whateves i still think hes sooo cute and funny lol
June 11th, 2008 at 6:54 pm
i do like liam and all but it would cool to be able to choose a character like for example i could choose to have a kitty or a paperclip (like in Word) and feed them and play with them and stuffs
June 11th, 2008 at 8:34 pm
I think most of this people said it. Spending even an hour of your time on this Liam thing could facilitate and speed up solving one of the problems we have on Yahoo! mail. We really don’t need Liam. It is not that important.
June 11th, 2008 at 8:58 pm
I think Liam is cute. I find it interesting that these people keep saying that they need everything faster and don’t want their time wasted but have time to compose looooong comments about their time being wasted. Yeah…I’m sure your time is soooo precious. Can’t waste a second but have 10 min to write dumb comments about everything in the world that you hate. Like Liam or ignore him. It’s no that hard to just ignore it people!!!!
June 11th, 2008 at 9:28 pm
Dude why pick on Liam? Liam Rocks down the house. Though I have to admit one dumb thing. All he does is eat and exercise. Even at those he fumbles. I mean YAHOO!! should make Liam intelligent and able to converse. Maybe you’d be able to ask him where you idiots who pick on him can get a book entitled how not to be jerks to geeks and how to kick a jocks testicles between his legs and pull he head from his butt with a POP!! Besides we all could use liam. Maybe he’d be a good buddy. Hell I love liam. Liam like is the amigo I never had. GO Liam. Yo!! Yahoo! Get Liam some audible skills and maybe a better sense of balance. I could do Yoga with Liam. Man Liam it is great you came. But it sucks some people are Jocks who think them cocks is so big that they got to dick you around!! Tell Yahoo to make you a better home. With more stuff and interesting personality. Cause here we need you.
June 11th, 2008 at 9:53 pm
this should be a whole game!
June 11th, 2008 at 10:02 pm
YO!! Yahoo!! Liam is like the best thing. You need to get if more of a persona of human. You could start by making liam DE MAN social. Plus make him not so clumsy. Also making him able to chat. Hell make him so we can socialize with the little dude. Hey you listenin??
June 11th, 2008 at 10:20 pm
Hay Lima,
I am from Iran, I got my yahoo e-mail since I have my first connection to the net, nobody could keep me happy like yahoo does, I am planning to keep my yahoo as long as possible that mean as long as it is free lol, all my family have their own yahoo account, yahoo is so popular around here.
Ahmad
June 11th, 2008 at 11:23 pm
i love it so cute i had a fun time playing with it
June 12th, 2008 at 2:34 am
WOW it’s really nice…
we have nice person on our acount..:D
thx.. ;) keep it up
June 12th, 2008 at 4:18 am
I’d rather have 360 up and running than a pesky “guy” to take care of. if you want to get into games make a gam,e of him but I think I’d rather have something better mixed in my mail.
The whole company needs an overhaul because you can’t seem to concentrate on what is important ..which is keeping spam down fixing the 360 and getting rid of glitches. Now if you’d have a way to turn Liam off my page it would be super. It’s boring after about a 1/2 second as you relize the more you do of one thing the more you have to do of another! And like a typical guy he seems to whine about it when you are slow to do what he wants.
June 12th, 2008 at 5:32 am
I am with the other people. Last time they tried this never worked. With all the problems in the world, and Microsoft trying to by you out. You had nothing better to do with your money? Animations slow down system, and why I wanna give some thing iice cream? Come on now for real?
June 12th, 2008 at 5:41 am
I haven’t try it yet but i think it’s gonna be great!! Thanks Liam. ^^
June 12th, 2008 at 6:07 am
Unfortunately this will not help you to compete with Gmail. Be more realistic! Free POP3, IMAP, Filters, without any visual ads and many other things. I am only waiting for microsoft to change your programs at all.
Oh god! Help microsoft to buy Yahoo!
June 12th, 2008 at 6:29 am
He is awesome and he is sooo cute and playful!
June 12th, 2008 at 6:50 am
what is this?????>??????????????????????????…
June 12th, 2008 at 6:53 am
I’ve already got a Sims character I hardly use.
June 12th, 2008 at 7:29 am
i think yahoo has gotten better and better with time… i do have others as well, but i like yahoo the most… the most convenient… even with yahoo mail beta… it just gets better! keep focusing on more usability and some visibilty… keep it up…
June 12th, 2008 at 7:32 am
Oh come on people!Complaining, complaining, complaining!Yeah, sure IMAP and all would be great but…LEAVE LIAM ALONE!;)Seriously,i like this little dude:)Gmail shmail,i like Y!
June 12th, 2008 at 7:41 am
Liam you are SO HOT! I like love Yahoo! but, mostly just for YOU! Come on everyone? Isn’t he HOT?
June 12th, 2008 at 8:18 am
Awwwwwww, hes soooooooooooo cute!!!!!!!!!!!
June 12th, 2008 at 8:34 am
This is 2 cute! I wanna adopt Liam.
June 12th, 2008 at 8:56 am
omg!!! i love liam!!!! i’ve always wanted one!!! i always thot he was super cute!!!! kawaii!!! now we get to take care of him. how interesting!!! …it’d be kool if we could make him do other things…
June 12th, 2008 at 8:56 am
I love Liam! Observing him has opened a window into my own life. the time that is spent at each activity directly reflects who I am and has challenged me to make mindful choices. I would like for Liam to have healthier food choices available however. :0)
June 12th, 2008 at 9:06 am
Hey, I like Liam. Make him a New friend PAMI and let them both roll out IMAP for us. That the cutesies and the techies are all happy.
June 12th, 2008 at 9:13 am
this should toltay be on yahoo
June 12th, 2008 at 9:26 am
I know it’s hard to believe, but many of us poor saps are still on dial-up, and not by choice.
Liam is fun to watch, but downloading him, and a lot of the new features, is downright painful on dialup.
Please keep us dialup users in mind!
June 12th, 2008 at 9:28 am
How do you talk to Liam???? I want to!!!!! All I know how to do is drag him into my email!!!!! Someone please explain!!!!! LIAM!!!!!!! :O :O :D :P:B
June 12th, 2008 at 9:42 am
Hi Ryan,
I don’t care much about what you guys do with Liam BUT I would like Yahoo to spend time on making the important things work first before adding on toys. How about getting Yahoo to work fast and reliably first? How about ensuring that e-mail loads up on the first try every time? How about adding features that allow us to navigate logically and without extra steps in e-mail (e.g. Why do I need a page just to confirm that my e-mail has been sent that I then have to click again to get back to my inbox or wherever I was?)
And how about other Yahoo features? There was a glitch in my Yahoo finance and my address got messed up and since that day, I contacted your customer service at least a dozen times – no one helped me. I was a long-term user paying monthly fees for years. All my financial history got lost and I moved to another provider instead.
Thanks!
Pamira

I agree about streamlining – the last upgrade was a nice idea, but now it takes FOREVER for me to check my emails (all that STUFF loading) and I’d REALLY REALLY REALLY like to tune that stupid news feature. I don’t care for it at all, but if it has to be there, I’d like to pick what’s on it (not just which is the least objectionable tab). However, I DO like some of the new functionality and I’d like to have the option to keep that little ‘take care of Liam’ doodad for the MyYahoo page, maybe. I like having all the hooplah and whatnot on MyYahoo page, but the email needs some refurbishing to mak
