Don’t forget to upgrade your iPhone software!

For all of you iPhone users out there, I just wanted to make sure you all knew about the most recent software update. Version 1.1.3 contains a bunch of new stuff, and upgrading to the latest offering should improve the performance of Mail. Even more exciting for me is that you can bookmark this blog to your home screen as a web clip. That’s right … a button that takes you straight to this blog!
If you aren’t sure if you’re running the latest software on your phone (released a few weeks ago) there are two ways to check. When you connect the iPhone to iTunes you can check for updates.
If you aren’t near your computer and want to check your software version directly from your phone you can go to:
Settings > General > About, and look for Version.
You can’t update the software directly from your phone, but it will at least let you know if you need to upgrade.

Please, please add IMAP to regular y! mail. My iPhone is great with Y! mail, but my folders won’t sync to Leopard’s mail as it only sees a POP3 account.
Truly, the advantage of IMAP is that it synchronizes across clients. That advantage is completely lost when only one client — iPhone — is permitted to use IMAP.

Ryan - why won’t yahoo give out any information about this terrible breakdown of their smtp server which has been going on for well over a week. Messages sent from a desktop client (e.g. Outlook) take 2 to 24 hours to get delivered if they get delivered at all. Recent calls and text chats with customer support are only met with stonewalling and a refusal to address the problem except to say it has been “escalated”. Why cant someone put pressure on them to shoot straight with their customers?
It is the most blantent breakdown of this service I have ever experiences and, by far, the biggest breakdown of cusotmer communications I have ever seen by any company. Maybe Microsoft could do better.

Any clues on getting yahoo mail to send mail from the iphone. The mysteries of the outgoing server ports never end.

The iphone community needs a status update from yahoo with ongoing mail issues and problems with Yahoo. This blog would be a good place to collect and address user complaints. You need to check out the apple.com discussion forums on this problem, because it’s huge.

I’d love to use the iPhone’s mail application for Yahoo! Mail, but as I’ve read in some sites since I bought mine last year (http://blog.isode.com/2007/07/iphone-signific.html for example), the iPhone authenticates with Yahoo!’s servers using a proprietary protocol (instead of TLS), which has a huge security flaw that allows anyone on the same wifi network to access your email account. I’ve started using gmail more and more because of this, as the only viable alternative is Mobile Safari…
Was this flaw fixed with iPhone software 2.0?
