Y! Mailers sound off with resolutions

Hello blog readers! Last week I asked you to share your New Year’s Resolution with the blog, and the response was great. We selected some people to receive some shirts, and have already notified the lucky winners (so if you didn’t hear yet you’ll have to stay tuned for next time!).Without further ado, here are some of the resolutions submitted by my readers :

I have a new year’s resolution for me, and I have one for you, too, Ryan K. I do office work and a lot of filing, so my resolution is to never get a paper cut again! Or a cut from manila folders or the metal prongs on those manila folders. I have just had it with them!

My resolution for you, Ryan K, is to change the picture next to your name at the end of your blogs. It’s been great to associate a face with a name, but do you have any other expressions?

Comment by Glenda

Glenda’s right. We should all strive to eliminate unpleasant paper cuts from 2008 … so let’s all use less paper and rely even more on email! And about the picture, I’ll try a new one this time and dig through my pics to find one without my smirk.

There should be a way to “merge” 2 addresses together so that we can get rid of the other one.

Comment by Krishna

Well we do have something that can help with that. It’s still in beta, but it’s part of address.yahoo.com and is called Clean Up Duplicates. You can learn more about it here.

my new years resolution is to be less critical of myself and of the people around me.

Comment by sophia

As long as you are keeping that up, please come back and comment often.

Resolved to do LESS clean-up! That is,, to stop deleting mail that I later find I wish I still had. File it away, yes, but keep it!

Comment by RP

Unlimited storage has that effect on people … but organization is critical!

I’ll keep checking if Ymail worx well with Safari hehehe.

Comment by Wissam

We are working on it, so stay tuned!

i am going to email more! real letters, not forwards. i think i have been neglecting people.

Comment by leah

I like the sound of that one. We should all follow leah’s lead.

My New year’s Mail resolution is to categorize my contacts in better group. I have Vietnamese, English, and French friends and most of them don’t know the other languages except their mother language. So far when I forward inspirational emails, I got complained from my friend that they couldn’t understand it.

Another resolution is that I must figure out how to make better folders. So far I made 100+ folders, each folders represent one friend of mine, and yes, I emailed all of them frequently.

Comment by Nhi Do

We may not all be tri-lingual, but this is good advice for everyone … remember your audience and keep that in mind when you are emailing.

Mine is to add folders to Yahoo! Mail, and to get Yahoo (Mail) Plus! In addition to getting my life in order; work, money, etc, etc…

Comment by Navi

What’s that? You are looking to upgrade to Mail Plus? That’s the best resolution yet!

Thanks again to everyone who commented or emailed. Hope you all enjoy this as much as I did.

In reference to a “resolution” concerning emails, letters, ymail, etc. I would have to say, that I should pick up on sending frequent emails out to everyone that I really don’t spend enough time emailing at all. Now outside of any ymail- resolution I do have a few of my own “personal” resolutions.

Time flies so quickly, which we all know. And as we know we do not control how much time we get in a day but we can control how it is used. I am gearing towards using my time more efficiently and spending more time on things that matter rather than things that are time consuming and pointless.

Like time for myself ;) which we all need sometime!!!

Oh, yeah most importantly to stop being so analytical. I can pick through a sentence or words or a 2 min conversation for hours.. I guess I do have a overly sensitive Soul!

Cheers to this year!!

So I won’t get any freebies? I even got mail from Ryan asking for a shipping address. I’m a bit confused here, in any case one of my resolutions made the list (the address book duplicates).

Allow POP, like Gmail does. Trying to force us to use Y! mail is only increasing Gmails popularity.

I do not like the new Yahoo mail program. It is mroe difficult to use, does not let me write in any font that is easy on the eyes, for older people to read and the mail page includes all sorts of things I’m not interested in. My Yahoo home page has all the things I want to read and the mail page does not need to repeat them and add other things that I feel is just litter.

But I will try in 2008 to wean myself away from Yahoo mail Classic and (especially) that new version that seems to suck more with every Firefox release.
At least gmail and AIM recognize the latest version(s) of Firefox, including the beta 3 releases.

The Yahoo folks still have heir their heads in their asses when it comes to browser sniffing, and kissing Microsoft’s ass.

[…] Instead, for you, I have another cute Address Book feature! You look so excited. But if you’ve accidentally entered a bunch of your contacts multiple times or have imported your contacts from multiple sources and ended up with duplicates, you’ll be glad that I’m mentioning the Clean Up Duplicates tool, which hunts for common entries in your address book and does a nice job of presenting a clean interface with which to merge them all together. Thanks to Ryan K. for the heads up from the Y! Mail blog. […]

I hate webmail. The only reason I use it is my old ISP went to it too, and there is nothing else available with Outlook. Why do I hate it? I am a private person; mail is private. We have lost so many individual liberties in this country over the last 8 years because someone in some agency somewhere wants to know everything everyone is doing, we are not private citizens anymore. I say this know mny mail sits on a server somewhere and is accessible to others, though as a somewhat adroit person I know how to delete from there too. Give us a semblance of privacy; just because you have a “INC.” after your name doesn’t mean you have to cut costs all the time at the expense of your customers who pay your salaries. Besides, who can trust a corporation?

I am a musician and a singer, I always wanted to learn music even if it is my career right now. I know that music is a never ending study and there’s a lot more things to learn as we go along in our everyday lives. Please, is there something that yahoo can do to let some kind of a section in yahoo that will teach us all how to play different instruments and even voice lessons? All I find in almost all the sites requires us to pa, pay, pay!!! is it always about money these day? Where is the public services that the internet is all about? We are poor people and it discriminates us “Third world countries” from joining the World Wide Web, because you guys can afford a “Credit Card” or some sort of payment that only recognizable by rich and middle class people.

Please have a haart and compassion, create a section or a page where it is free to access by everyone regardless of race, creed, religion, or citizenship. I’m sick and tired of reading journals that seperates people.

So lets get together and spread something that is user freindly and useful to all.

May God bless you and thank you for your kind attention to this matter.

Just me,
Mr. Agustin E. Villarin

That “Clean up contacts” beta feature is great. It works well and makes great use of the new Y!Mail’s “chrome” skin. The next step for this beta feature is to integrate it into the new Mail interface.

Another step in the right direction would be to update the “Add” (contact) button in the header pane of message from unknown addresses. It should give the option to add the Email address to an existing contact, like the in-message-body “shortcuts” allow.
