After the rousing success of the first bit of reader polling, I couldn’t wait come back and find out more about all of you. I couldn’t help but notice that one of the reader comments suggested that Yahoo! should already know which version you use, or other things like browser and operating systems. But since my readership isn’t quite 250 million (at least not yet, anyway) it behooves me to see how all of you compare to the overall Yahoo! Mail user base.
Hopefully once I have a good grasp on who you are I can get into more product oriented questions … but until then please be patient. And for the record, I am only asking about age because so many reader comments reference “being old”. I think it would be nice to see what qualifies as “old”. Feel free to share your thoughts on how the poll questions could be better, or what you think future poll questions would be!
And if these don’t really work for you, stay tuned because soon I hope to find answers to the age old questions: “Paper or plastic?” and “Tastes great or less filling?”

Yahoo! Mail
hello…ryan k.,how r u?
I have used the free YAHOO for years so can’t really complain for what I get for my money – OK – fuss a little. The only real problem I have is that some of my regular bulk mailings that I subscribe to will be every so often be dumped in the bulk folder. I have to scan that folder before I delete everything. These groups are set up in my address book so they should come thru. YAHOO has been great and I will continue to use it. I use another e-mail address (pay) for serious personal & business purposes.
Another question should be: Have you ever used Yahoo! Mail on a plane? (JetBlue anyone?)
I, of course have not… but I’d like to hear from someone who has.
Hi. Don’t forget, everyone, if you are not receiving emails that you want to receive, make sure you have the addresses in your mail boxes and make sure they haven’t accidentally gotten in your blocked address folder. I have done this once or twice. Also, there are settings on your computer to prevent you from receiving adult rated or pornographic materials and if you set your ratings to a high enough level, this will also apply to your email. I never receive any kind of “language” or “picture” related offensive material in my email, so I never have that kind of spam or pop ups to deal with. Set your pop up blocker as well to a high setting. Some of the spam that comes with no address has to be opened to find an address to block it, but beware of that because you could be opening a worm or a virus, so I don’t recommend doing that unless you have good spam and spyware protection.
Hello,
My son just posted here while ago, But I would like to add something too Since he showed me this to where I can let my suggestions be heard!
I would like to say the spam filters are NOT working. I have a yahoo mail account that keeps getting spam, and when I go and block the domain…. I get 25 more emails. I seriously dont think that the spam filters work on Yahoo. I am starting to be afraid I am going to have to change my address if I cant find a solution. as I said I blocked the domains but im using 167 of 500 blocked addresses.. I dont know what I am going to do once my BLOCK LIST gets full!
Please fix the spam filter to where we can either put it ONLY ACCEPT MAIL FROM ADDRESS BOOK CONTACTS or make a safe list or something I dont want to change my address but my spam is getting to be out of control!
Thank you,
Debbie
I have been using Yahoo! since I was a little kid and old enough to have an email account! I am personally very fond of Yahoo! and it’s functions. Switching to Flickr was an odd thing to get used to, howver, I would like to know if Y!360 will ever compete with Myspace or Facebook? I would love to have something like that and still keep everything Yahoo! Thanks y’all.
My complaint is… Add some IMAP and POP support to Yahoo without having to pay an arm in a leg ever year,
and also add MORE FONTS!!! I would like to compose an email in more than just the basic fonts that you guys offer

Chansen, I have had my free account so long (10 years )easy. I also have had 3 other email account during that time. The Spam filter has stopped all but maybe 5 spam messages in that 10 plus years. Just to put that in perspective I get on average 20 mail messages a day. So I have to say that Yahoo really works great , I like the new format and Gmail, Hotmail, and even Charter failed in comparison. Most of the people I communicate with use the BCC and we practice the etiquette of stipping off all the email addresses on the mail we forward. No chains for me. Forwarding this to 10 people will not do anything……
I CANNOT get into my Yahoo mail. This has been ongoing for like an hour. I’m depending completely on my email to alert me to potential customers for my fledgeling business. I also work a 50 hour workweek. In other words, I don’t have all night to wait. What is going on? I would like to access my mail, please.
jpaauwe…
I don’t know what phone you’re using, but I’ve only had Sprint and I’ve always been able to use Yahoo! on my phone. I’ve had 3 different phones that were able to access mobile internet and I’ve always been able to use Yahoo!. And Matthew B…
What the hell are you talking about? Why are you posting zealotous rantings about the GOP and God on a Yahoo! mail blog? I’m a Christian and you’re embarrassing me. Stop it. You’re probably one of those people who protests the funerals of U.S. soldiers claiming God hates gays and all of that nonsense aren’t you?
I don’t understand why some e-mails from Yahoo groups that I belong to go to my Bulk folder and others don’t. None of it should go to my Bulk folder, because it’s from a Yahoo group.
I have had Yahoo (free) for several years.
I NEVER get Spam…in my inbox, ever, just the spam folder..absolutely NO problem with yahoo mail
However, I do hope Yahoo management gets Yahoo back on top of the internet game and can compete with Google and Hotmail. It isn’t looking too good right now though. Look for it to go on the market
soon, if things do not improve soon. Then what will happen to Yahoo mail users?
Also, Yahoo blew it with their Blog and pictures.
I have a Blog but Yahoo changed to Flikr pictures (for a fee) and using it with the old Blog is out of the question…..Bloggers I know have ALL left Yahoo….
IT’s the MANAGEMENT STUPID
I use yahoo on my sprint phone, never have any problems.
Christian-Left.
We love the doctrins of Jesus so we do not invent our own.
Jesus said:
“Be not like hypocrits who like to pray in public to be seen of others, but go into your closet, shut the door and pray to God in secret.”
Matt 6:5-8
Suport Jesus and say no to public prayer, say no to prayers in schools.
The Christian-Left loves the doctrins of Jesus, so we do not invent our own.
“Thus in vain do the GOP worship God, teaching thier own doctrins, not God’s.” “The GOP honors God only with thier lips, thier hearts are far from God.” “Not all who call on God will be saved, only those who do God’s will. Ten maidians will come to me only 5 will be saved, the other 5 will be cast out for damnation, Not all who call themselves Saved Christians will be/are saved, only those who obey God’s Doctrins.”

IF your christian you have no problem with abortion because you know God gave us life and God knows when and if to place a soul/spirit into a growing fetus.
i dont get that much spam
In response to Urbandale..I know Yahoo does a great job overall. It must be difficult to keep up with the vast amount of Spam telling you that you have won 900K in US dollars if you’ll just give them your account number, or how many ways you can have sex with your neighbor. I for one, do not find those nauseating chain forwards cute, interesting, or worth my time, and do not forward the garbage… so I can’t figure why my account generates so much Spam which ends up in my INBOX.
The only thing that really bothers me about my yahoo mail is all the spam (I get upwards of 400 a day) even though I have marked alot of this as spam when it comes in (sorry I am not into watching Jen or Sara have sex with themselves or any ones for that matter the sad thing is I have a sister in law named jen and a niece named Sara) yet I still get several of those a day. Can anything else be done about this type of thing

As an iPhone user, I have not had any problems with Yahoo mail though IMAP, in fact I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the service. However, I do not like Yahoo’s customized search feature with iPhone.
answer to Michael: If you are a 20 years old, do you want to be thrown in with the 3 and 4 years old?? For an 85er 61 is kindergarten!!
Thank you Jason K for the explanation of the benefits of Mail Plus. I have subscribed to it for so long that I just take for granted that everyone gets the same thing. I use Yahoo for important business, so it’s worth $20/year for the extra piece of mind that, if anything goes wrong, I’ve got a place to call!
First let me take the time to Thank Jason K for his response as it appears to be directed to my post. I have been giving serious consideration to paying for Mail Plus but hesitated to do so because of the very upsetting way that email customer service has handled my issues over the years. The couple times I talked with someone on the phone they would hear me talk and then respond with answers that ignore what I had just said. I have a merchant account with Yahoo and the customer service team there is outstanding, I do realize that by paying for email they would step up there interest in helping and that receiving a free service would not provide the same support. That being said when I buy a new car I would first test drive it and if the car did not perform as expected then I would go somewhere else. I am a loyal Yahoo customer and given what Jason K wrote I will probably be paying for mail plus today. Mr. Ryan K it has been said that this blog is monitored and that you or your staff may not be able to respond to all the Posts and I accept that, but I do check this blog out ever day and the issue of spam problems gets side stepped. For many years as a technician I have had to work in the field with customer service issues and also an 800 support line and it has been proven time and again that responding and fixing the least of my customers problems provide the greatest benefit to company sales.
You could help yourselves with Spam if you would stop
forwarding those chain emails you find sooooo cute.
Explain to the novice users what the Bcc button does.
Does Yahoo have to do everything for you?
Old is only how you feel, not a walker.
Yahoo has pretty much kept up with other services for
over 10 years. They need a pat on the back.
Definitely “paper” and “tastes great”!
could u have a poll abt what we like to change abt yahoo mail? an opinion abt the good and the bad things?
Wow, after reading all the comments above, I guess I don’t have much to complain about as a yahoo Mail Plus user. There are a few things I would like to see improved such as more stationery, especialy for special holidays as well as ALL the regular holidays, like the 4th of July. I guess I don’t get upset over occasional problems as all websites have them. I personally seldom have the error codes appear and it’s usually resolved in a couple of minutes. Yahoo will remain my email program of choice. Great job, Yahoo!!!!!
I get tons of Spam in my Inbox every day. Yahoo needs to improve in this area. I also have to scan through the junk mail as many of my legitimate e-mails end up there instead of my Inbox. Go figure.
I have said it, and i’ll say it again..Ymail Beta isn’t advanced in the process of attaching files “attaching more than one file”..Users can’t use the Ctrl bottom and select more than a file at once.
Other than that it’s the best (waiting to be fully compatible with Opera, Safari, and the others).
Yeah I have a suggestion, is it possible to add an auto-spelling correction feature? (ie, underlining the mistakes while one types).
Yaho0o0o! forevr.
wow, awesome
I’m responding to jack c., who wrote, “I think paying customers should have access to a toll free number that can be called when problems develop within the system.” There is a toll-free phone number for Mail Plus customers to call for help with their Mail account. The phone number is (866) 562-7219. In addition, Yahoo! Mail Plus customers get real-time help online via live chat. I’m posting this comment at 2:00am (CST) and help via live chat is even available at this late hour. Here’s the link to the page where you can connect live with a Yahoo! Customer Care representative: http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/yahoomail/forms_index.html
I’ve used the toll-free number and live chat a few times, and the representatives were polite and helpful. The system will only allow you to connect via live chat if you are a paying Mail Plus customer and signed into your Mail Plus account. And when you call the toll-free number the representative that answers will ask for information to confirm that you have a Mail Plus account. So don’t bother calling if you only have a free account. It’s well worth the $19.99 per year for a Mail Plus account. There are no graphical ads and no promotional tag-lines inserted by Yahoo! into messages you send or receive. There’s additional spam prevention tools, including disposable addresses and extra filters, and offline access with POP.
Please Yahoo help with spam, I am I older person not to computer savvy but made the error of using the unsubscribe button on all this spam that now pours in as a consequence I have found out my spam has increaed out of site, how can yahoo help me eliminate this in a non computer jargon way…help…
hey i’m sorry jpaauwe but i use sprint and i can use yahoo, aim and msn so u don’t know what ur doing or u have an old phone
the survey does say 61 and over. can u not read people
For me, the spam filter has eliminated 700 junk emails a week. My only complaint is that non-spam mail that I subscribe to gets thrown in the bulk folder now and then. It probably doesn’t hurt to forward to 419@419scam.com, or Scams@Fraudwatchinternational, where appropriate.
I did read that something was being done about spam but I did not think was going to make it worse. I am now getting spam with no To: email address and a lot of mail with a different email than my own. I have mail-abuse@cc.yahoo-inc.com saved in my contacts and hoped that they would talk to me, I have tried so many times over the years to get help but once again they will not respond to me. They send their auto response emails but nothing that remotely deals with the problems I describe. And please could we respond in kind to this post, I have been with Yahoo from the beginning and will not give up but I would like to resolve the problems.
THE SPAM MAIL HAS TO TOTALLY IMPROVE, ALOT BETTER THEN WHAT IT IS NOW!!! WITH NO LIMITS OF BLOCKING!! AND IT WOULD BE NICE IF THE SPAM IS REALLY BLOCKED, WHICH IT IS NOT AT ALL NOW!!! YAHOO TOOLBAR HAS TO IMPROVE ALSO! WITH NO PROBLEMS!! WHEN TRYING TO UPDATE IT, OR ANYTHING ELSE!!
I still don’t understand why I still get junk mail in my Inbox when my Bulk mail isn’t, so far as I know, limited in capacity? J
REALLY love Yahoo Go 2.0 on my Moto V3xx and cant wait for 3.0. I also love having a Yahoo interface on my phone for other services. Been a Yahoo plus user for years and will never go back.
Don Messer is right, you should up the age choices. I know of several people well in their 80, who are very frequent mailers!!! I don’t use mobile phone because i’m hearing impaired, and I think that’s the same for a lot of people. For us the i’net is a boon!!
Hi,
Old is not someone with a walker.
Bad !!!!!
Would’ve been nice if you asked “Do you use Yahoo Mail”
then I could’ve told you “No, it’s too spammage. At least with hotmail I can get mail and actualy see it, since it’s not mixed in with 1000s of spam messages.
Kudos to BrianE for bringing the problem of Yahoo Mail not working to the forefront. Spent the better part of one afternoon cussing and trying to work around it–Am also a paying Mail Plus customer and may consider changing back to my ISPs e-mail as my primary due to continuing non-responsiveness to problems with Yahoo Mail–I think paying customers should have access to a toll free number that can be called when problems develop within the system–especially when nothing is ever posted (other than the error messages) and that problems are occuring. Even a timetable as to when these problems are expected to be resolved would be a help. My satisfaction with Yahoo has waned over the years–and maybe a change should be in the offing. And has anyone at Yahoo found a permanent solution yet to the IE7 issue in Vista of not bringing up a mail composition page when an e-mail address is clicked on? (when Yahoo is listed as the default e-mail client) At one point, I thought the problem was solved when a small window used to open above the clicked on e-mail address but now I have found out it doesn’t seem to work all the time. May seem like little things but they are driving this Yahoo Mail Plus user crazy.
It’s kind of sad that hours into what appears to be a widescale service interruption of Yahoo! Mail, there isn’t ANYTHING posted about what’s going on or what’s being done anywhere on Yahoo!
I’ve checked the mail blog, the front page, Yahoo! Answers – nothing. There is a HUGE number of questions on Yahoo! Answers about “why isn’t Yahoo! Mail working” – everyone getting error code 1 (old mail) or error code 2 (Oddpost/New mail).
It’s not universal (I have a little used secondary address that works just fine), but it’s pretty widespread and Yahoo! is operating under complete radio silence about it.
Considering I actually pay for Mail Plus, I’m definitely not feelin’ the love today…
don’t know how to verify email
Hi jpaauwe,
-
Can you elaborate? I’ve been using AT&T/Cingular for years and have been able to access Yahoo! products (in different forms) on every phone I’ve had in the last 6 years (mostly basic phones until very recently).
-
I can check with the mobile team to learn more, but I wanted to get clarification on where you may be from or what phones you may be using.

The question, “Do you use Yahoo! on your mobile phone?” Most cellular companys do not allow you to even use Yahoo!. I have sprint, and they do not allow the use of Yahoo!, neither does at&t/cingular, as well as several other services. Is there anything Yahoo! can do to get these companys to allow us to access our Yahoo! acounts?
“Do you use Yahoo! on your mobile phone”
No at all, because your program didn’t support Russian.
Did not mean .au?. Just .au. Sorry
Could anyone suggest how I can eliminate the .au? from my address? Age should go at least up to 70. You might be surprised at how many people over 70 are on Yahoo.
