Update on the Classic Mail Update

About a month ago I posted about the streamlining and updating of Yahoo! Mail Classic. As of this posting only a handful of you Classic users may have been transitioned over to the updated version (you can tell by reviewing some of the details in this post), with everyone else waiting for the rollouts to continue.
As many of you may remember from my chat with Skotch during the rollout of the All-New Yahoo! Mail, when it comes to rolling out something of this magnitude we prefer the careful approach. The rollout is gradual and is very closely monitored during each step.
We know that many of you are using Yahoo! Mail this winter to coordinate those all-important holiday plans with family and friends (whether Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Soyal, Winter Solstice, Yule, or even Festivus). Many others are using it for your business communications with clients or customers, and may be counting on maximizing that holiday business. Either way this is an absolutely critical time of year for communicating, and, although we know you are excited to experience the updated Mail Classic, the Yahoo! Mail team is mitigating exposure for users by delaying the product push until January.
That being the case we are still going to be hard at work behind the scenes tweaking and streamlining Yahoo! Mail Classic. Already back by popular demand is Forward as Attachment. Many of you never saw it go away, only seeing its impending removal on the list of changes, but worry not, it will remain a part of Classic (if you are using the updated Classic all you have to do is hold the Ctrl key – Command Key for Mac users – when you click on the Forward button). As far as the product rollout goes, however, we are officially on hold until January.
We appreciate your patience and hope that you understand.

December 4th, 2007 at 11:44 am
When we (the yahoo mail plus users) will have the IMAP for this service?
December 4th, 2007 at 11:53 am
I just wanted to say that I did download the new mail and really loved the whole look and options, but I just couldn’t make myself stick with the change because you didn’t offer the avatar options you have available on the classic edition, and while this may not be an important thing to most people, I really enjoy playing with her and changing all of her looks, backgrounds, extras, etc to match the season or emotion I’m feeling that day. If there’s any way to make avatars as part of the package I would switch immediately to the new version!! Thanks for the opportunity to get my 2 cents in.

None of my mail “gadgets” work so I can’t compose, reply, check mail, etc. I can only read 15 messages and the rest are “loading”…..for an hour. I can’t click on “Mail Classic” to change back. I can switch folders or switch to “My yahoo”, but that’s all. I want the old mail back until everything’s working
December 4th, 2007 at 12:32 pm
Ditto Steve’s problems – Keep on tweakin – the mail that is.
December 4th, 2007 at 12:44 pm
My mail function is out. I am not able to write new mail!
December 4th, 2007 at 12:48 pm
The new mail is horrible I cant delete messages, they never all load, and I cant change back to the old mail. I have written in to yahoo but they cant seem to fix it. I dont want to have to make an new screen name so come on fix this stuff.

I’ve been a yahoo user for about 20yrs now – I still pay for the premium service even though gmail is free because I do in fact prefer Yahoo to Gmail—but one thing I hate is it seems the spam has goten worse and worse and as a paying user I am still limited to how many addresses I can block– for some reason when I mark something as spam in GMail — it really seems to get rid of the spam –I even have an email account in gmail that I use as a spam account–one where I expect spam and even with that account I have less spam than I do in yahoo!! I think Yahoo needs to work on it spam control and to appreciate the paying customers enough to not limit the aMount of blocked addresses
As far as the new email roll-out– I’ve tried it a number of times and still revert back to the classic — the newer version seems ok for a fast connection but seems much slower on a slow connection than does the classic –there’s other things I prefer about the classic version–I would say though the new version looks clean–the classic works best for me!
thanks

i have been getting spam all over europe. i have won enough money to save usa. now its jobs.{retired} spam keeps coming!!!!!!!
December 4th, 2007 at 1:07 pm
Please add contact “categories” to Yahoo! Mail beta. This feature lives in classic and it’s essential to browsing contacts.
December 4th, 2007 at 1:20 pm
I am a long time Yahoo! Mail PLUS subscriber. I prefer and will continue using the Classic Mail. I have not yet been updated.
1. Thanks very much for leaving Forward as Attachment functionality in the pending update. That would have been sorely missed.
2. Please do not remove the Attachment Preview functionality! That is one of the reasons I stayed with the Classic version (New Mail doesn’t have it).
December 4th, 2007 at 1:30 pm
I checked out the new Yahoo mail but went back to classic because I did not want the messenger function. I received spyware through use of the messenger so I do not want any connection to it.
December 4th, 2007 at 1:48 pm
I like the new Yahoo Mail but this doesn’t allow you to save a ‘message text’onto a file in your hard drive (as txt)as was the case with Classic!
December 4th, 2007 at 1:51 pm
Please do bring IMAP for the all new Y! Mail!
I use Y! push email on my iPhone, and I’d like my inbox, folders, and read/unread counts to stay in sync. Without IMAP all around, it really truly reduces the value.
December 4th, 2007 at 1:52 pm
Bonny, do you live in a time-space discontinuum warp bubble?
You’ve been using Yahoo for about 20 years now? That’s pretty impressive, given that Yahoo was founded in 1994..
December 4th, 2007 at 2:13 pm
Seems that altho I have set my options to go back to original folder, when I delete a message, it just opens the next one in line. I have checked my settings and they are correct to NOT do this. Tweak some more!!
December 4th, 2007 at 2:37 pm
I am not able to bgring up e-mail inbox, sent, trash etc. What I do get is some useless mail item that suggeststhat I become a better chat, text, or some other thing that I don’t want.
December 4th, 2007 at 3:31 pm
Why do I want a mail “home”? I already have a yahoo home page that has the things I want. It is annoying to have to select the inbox and wait for it to show, and for some reason there is a time lag that makes it more annoying. Can you put some feature into this application that allows one to remove the junk? Mail readers should not be clunky.
December 4th, 2007 at 4:06 pm
My contact list now comes up as a pop-up and is continually blocked even if I turn off the pop-up blocker. Therefore, I cannot forward any e-mails at this time.
December 4th, 2007 at 4:25 pm
I really dislike the new format especially the ads.
December 4th, 2007 at 4:53 pm
To many commercials on the new format. It takes longer to load with adds flashing everywhere. Very distracting.
December 4th, 2007 at 5:18 pm
I have been using the new mail for several months now. All was well until a few days ago. Now my buttons on the inbox tab don’t work, I can’t go to my contacts, I can’t commpose a new email and a few other problems. All started on 11-30-07. I see others are having same problem. Please fix soon.
December 4th, 2007 at 5:26 pm
I don’t like the new format, it will not let me delete mail or the spam. It will not load all of my mail.
December 4th, 2007 at 5:31 pm
I tried the new Yahoo e-mail and it didn’t work at all. I am very disappointed with Yahoo. I expect more from the. Fortunately I was able to go back to the old e-mail.
December 4th, 2007 at 6:20 pm
Please IMAP, please, please! Pretty please!!
December 4th, 2007 at 6:36 pm
i cannot reviewing some of the details in this post. what can i do?
December 4th, 2007 at 6:54 pm
I am still not able to delete, forward, or reply to my emails. Please fix this problem. This has been going on for weeks now.
December 4th, 2007 at 7:13 pm
I cut and pasted the following comment because I have exactly the same problem. I am running xt on a pretty new computer with Comcast high speed service, Windows explorer. I also use Firefox which works fine with the new yahoo mail but most of what I do is on windows IE.
December 4th, 2007 at 7:15 pm
Please get me my old classic. The new one is
horrible, I have 163 messages that I cannot
delete, and I can’t switch back to Classic.
The e-mails load forever, I hate to have to
sign up for a new e-mail address. PLEASE FIX IT
December 4th, 2007 at 7:18 pm
I wish yahoo would bring the photo thumbnails to email again. it was a great feature and easy to do.I’m staying classic.
December 4th, 2007 at 7:18 pm
The new mail is horrible I cant delete messages, they never all load, and I cant change back to the old mail. I have written in to yahoo but they cant seem to fix it. I dont want to have to make an new screen name so come on fix this stuff. I’m expecting email from a very important source and if all mail is not loading correctly ir too slow then where do you think that will leave me? Please fix problems. I know change can be good but until all information is working properly then stay with what you have, If it ain’t broke then don’t fix it. Pardon my language……
December 4th, 2007 at 8:15 pm
I try the new mail every so often and I can never get it to work. Now I can’t find ecards when I am composing an email. Please never drop the classic version!
December 4th, 2007 at 8:27 pm
terrible time today with yahoo classic…can’t access new mail…slower than snail mail…have tried everything even a system restore…don’t know what happen
December 4th, 2007 at 10:22 pm

This new Beta Yahoo Mail bites the big one. All Yahoo has done is add a fancy look. This new look isn’t needed, nor is all the junk that has been added. It’s just a bunch of clutter. Keep it simple and clean. This new look makes getting to your mail slower. I can’t stand the delay using this garbage called “personal assistant.” Updates are suppose to improve speed, not slow it down. To all you Yahoo users, remember one thing. New isn’t always better.
December 5th, 2007 at 1:10 am
please i dont like the new yahoo. pls can i be
returned back to my yahoo.mail classic its well understood please help me
December 5th, 2007 at 3:09 am

It s very hard not be able to go back to the old classic mail box which i prefer.
I keep being put to the new one which i don t like. A bit fed up with that. And no clear instructions. When you click onto classic mlail, nothing happens.
December 5th, 2007 at 3:45 am
I only use mail classic.
Altho I am a fanatic tech user, I am conservative when it comes to having a UI. I am sick of marketing that only touts a “new and improved” UI. If the old one sucked so bad, why did they make it?
Also, I can not put up with large ad space in new yahoo mail.
Tony
December 5th, 2007 at 4:40 am
I too have tried the new mail several times and I hate it, takes too long too load even with high speed, intrusive ads, etc. Luckily I have been able to switch back. I will stay with classic for as long as I can.
Maybe instead of All-New Yahoo Mail, it could be, YahooVista ;-)
December 5th, 2007 at 5:16 am
Pleeeeeeaaaaaasssssseeeee bring back “Insert Photo”! Photo attachments many times aren’t viewed as anything other than the thumbnail because it’s too much hassle to open the attachment. Viewing the photo within the body of the email was so much nicer, easier, faster, more practical. For many, many people, photo sharing is HUGE! Please return “Insert Photo”!
Thanks,
Robin
December 5th, 2007 at 5:27 am
my e-mail address is not updated so i can not access my e-mails.why?
December 5th, 2007 at 6:17 am
Is that a rare moment of candor from Yahoo? Please forgive me while I look for something strong to revive me to consciousness. I fainted from the sheer exhilaration of getting an honest answer from someone who works at Yahoo. Yes you did screw up, but at least you admitted it this time. That’s start towards dealing with your customers in a more straightforward manner. Keep it up.
December 5th, 2007 at 6:52 am
i have several yahoo mail accounts, and have switched over to the new mail on a couple of them, but i switched back right away. NOTHING WORKS in the new version!
i am very tech-savvy (i spend a lot of time on the net, as well as in my mailbox). i did everything i could think of to tweek it but it would not work.
i like the old version. if you do get the new one working, PLEASE keep the old one!
December 5th, 2007 at 7:16 am
Way too slow with the newer version
December 5th, 2007 at 7:21 am
The new version is lacking – too many ads (and I’m a Yahoo Plus paying user) and you cannot open an e-mail in a new window or enlarge – if you’re going for the “Outlook” look and functionality, please add the features that make outlook a preferred business application. Too many times I receive the “mail is loading” message, only to wait and wait. The “new” yahoo has been disappointing at best. Spamguard is a joke – I still receive the same spam e-mails (different address, but same content) after “reporting”. I’ll remian a “classic” user with Outlook importing my yahoo mail.
December 5th, 2007 at 8:18 am
Sounds like a bunch of cry-babies. The new yahoo works fine, a little cluttered with the ads but just fine. How can someone say they’re tech-savvy and not be able to clear uop their settings problems???
December 5th, 2007 at 8:27 am
New mail is great except that it *will not* load on the rickety dial-up offered at my farm, in rural Missouri. I can’t afford satellite and cable/ DSL stopped heading our way in the last 1980’s (I’m not joking). On an artist’s wages I must use dial-up/ classic mail, which is fine.
I’m writing to thank you for keeping it! If it were discontinued, I’d have to stop using Yahoo Mail! : (
So, thanks : )
December 5th, 2007 at 8:32 am
I have tried it at least three times and each time, it breaks and won’t allow me to view mail, compose mail, or any other of the things it’s supposed to do, and the only way I am able to do them is to switch back to the classic view. I don’t want to switch permanently until I can be sure this problem won’t happen.
December 5th, 2007 at 8:38 am
BTW, the problem seems to be specific to the account I use in Internet Explorer, but not the one I use in Firefox. I suspect it is because I refuse to upgrade to Windows Vista.
You need to keep the classic version for those who don’t want to upgrade their system.
December 5th, 2007 at 9:21 am
Thanks for keeping “forward as attachment”! You guys are awesome! Ryan K is DA MAN! Thanks for listening to user feedback.
I have used yahoo mail since the late 1990’s and will continue to do so. I like the additional yahoo mail plus features as well.
December 5th, 2007 at 9:24 am
You offer an upgrade to the new version yet when I refused and clicked on the option to use the classic version you end up pushing some upgrades through and I think Ièm getting a mix of the two? Now it is impossible to keep logged in and it takes forever to view my messages. Nice try but keep working at it because it really sucks now!
December 5th, 2007 at 9:50 am
Add an option to delete a message after sending, so it doesn’t go to sent folder. Now I just have one more folder I have to periodically clean up. Before I just saved things I wanted to follow up on.
Also, make signature an option. I use same a/c for personal and business. So when I send personal I have to delete my business info.
Spam is worse than ever!
December 5th, 2007 at 9:54 am
Today I notice I must go to options to get Classic back rather than at the top. New mail and classic have their usages and the user should be able to select either view whenever they wish.
On another note. Classic is slower because rather than using thumbnails of images, the entire image is produced. This might be OK, if the image were scaled properly, but is certainly slower than viewing the thumbnails.
Of course, it would help if the thumbnails in classic worked reliably. Perhaps the effort on new mail has resulted in errors in the thumbp1.mail.mud.yahoo.com server farm links.
December 5th, 2007 at 10:08 am
I have been using the new mail but have been experiencing problems lately. When I try to access my mail at work, using Internet Explorer, I am unable to click on anything except for the already open inbox folder. I cannot compose, reply, delete, or even change back to classic. Whenever I try to click on a link, the little error box on the bottom left hand corner comes up. I do not have this problem when I access my account at home through Firefox. It seems to be a problem with internet explorer.
December 5th, 2007 at 10:36 am
After reading a lot of these comments I do feel a little better because I thought it was just my account that was all messed up. There are some MAJOR issues with this new Yahoo e-mail. It’s terrible! I can not pull up my contact list, can not reply to e-mails either. I have not been able to change back to classic either and all my old messages will not come up at all. It just sits there and says LOADING. I think it’s been loading for over an hour now and still no e-mails are coming up. Wow, this needs to be fixed and quickly YAHOO. Please do something fast!!!
December 5th, 2007 at 10:39 am
Please, please don’t remove the Attachment Preview feature! This is one of the most useful features of Yahoo! Mail Classic, and the main reason I haven’t switched to the new version. Not all of us own Word or Excel, or browse the web on computers (or cell phones!) powerful enough to run them or OpenOffice.org.
December 5th, 2007 at 11:11 am
I do not like or want your new system but I can not get back the “Classic” form that I did like.
Now all I get is incoming e-mails and I can not compose or send an e-mail and I am very frustrated. I need these functions in my daily work. Please let me know how I can swich back. I am totally discouraging about ever “updating” my computer again. It has only meant trouble and loss of function for me.
December 5th, 2007 at 1:01 pm
I hate your new mail version, I want the classic back. I can’t access, send or anything. I tried setting up another account and that worked but the same old thing can use the new version. I have important stuff in my primary account that I have had since 2003, please switch me back and get rid of the new account I created 12/5 for me. I tried the options and followed instructions but it will not let me do anything. YUK ON THIS NEW VERSION.
December 5th, 2007 at 1:04 pm
I am staying with Classic b/c of Forward as attachment. If you remove it then I should check the other Mail providers. Or you add it to the full version.
December 5th, 2007 at 1:05 pm
somtimes new is just not better. I switched back to the old version.
December 5th, 2007 at 1:23 pm
For several months I have been periodically trying the new version to see if it works as well (as fast) as classic, only to return to classic. I haven’t tried recently. Now I am reading that a bunch of folks here cannot get back into classic once they hop over to try out the new version. If that’s the case then there is no way that I will even test out the new release again.
also.. BRING BACK THE PHOTO INSERT FUNCTION.. or at least explain why you won’t bring it back.
December 5th, 2007 at 1:39 pm
My mail is totally screwd up. I can’t delete any mail and can’t acces my contacts. Anybody now how I get mail classic back. The new one is not working at all. Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp!!!!!!
December 5th, 2007 at 2:13 pm
I don’t like the new version!
December 5th, 2007 at 2:56 pm
Why do you guys MESS with Yahoo! CLASSIC MAIL!!!????? You have taken away the option to show emails from those NOT in my contact list. That was MY NUMBER ONE way to counter-act SPAM that your filtering system let’s through.
Just “Tweak” the NEW version and return Classic to the wonderful tool it was a few months ago, PLEASE?
Why do you bother asking for my feedback whenever I decline to use the NEW version when you ignore my consistent feedback… LEAVE CLASSIC ALONE AFTER YOU RETURN IT TO THE PROGRAM IT WAS A FEW MONTHS AGO!????
December 5th, 2007 at 3:33 pm
Yes, IMAP would really be great (and IMAP over SSL would be *really* great). For one thing, it would off-load Yahoo!’s web servers…
December 5th, 2007 at 5:00 pm
Anyone here notice the sudden appearance of advertising? I thought that the pay-for-service did not have ads. What’s going on?
December 5th, 2007 at 5:49 pm
This is aweful. I cant send messages or convert back to classic. I volunteer at an agency that only schedules through the email and I cant put in for my vacation because I cant send them mail from my mailbox! this sucks! Please help!
December 5th, 2007 at 5:53 pm
I have switched back and forth between the Classic and the New Mail for a few times. I had to switched back to the Classic again last month after encountering the problems many of you mentioned here. I couldn’t change it back to Classic with my computer. I had to use a computer at the PUBLIC LIBRARY and do it there. I am going to stay with the Classic for as long as I can.
December 5th, 2007 at 6:17 pm
whatever you guys are doing at yahoo, please stop. since you have started this new mail stuff, i keep having problems w/ my email on some computers…cant see the body of the email, cant opena box to compose an email, (both on classic), cant get the new version to work at all.
December 5th, 2007 at 6:45 pm
Reading these posts has been comforting because I now know it isn’t just me and that my computer isn’t necessarily dying. I was a loyal yahoo user because I liked the product. VERY disappointed w/the changes. Remember the adage, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Applies here, your product wasn’t broken. Hate the extra ads in the “new” mail amongst other things..
December 5th, 2007 at 6:53 pm
I don’t like this new yahoo I can’t do anything and I want to go back to classic how do I do it system doesn’t alow me, please send an e-mail with a solution thank you
December 5th, 2007 at 8:12 pm
I have not been able to open or do anything with e-mail for days! I liked the classic version of Yahoo and its e-mail functions. It now takes forever to get through all of the mousetraps to get back to the classic version, then my e-mail will still not open. I can not write or send anything. PLEASE FIX IT!
Thank you bunches!
December 5th, 2007 at 9:16 pm
please please return INSERT PHOTO as a thumbnail to classic or put in beta. the problem i have with beta is my viewing screen for messages–emails is only like 4 lines wide what gives its easier to read my mail on classis. thanks gail
December 5th, 2007 at 9:41 pm
I do not want to use such kind. Please back me to yahoo mail classic version. Thank you in advance
May God bless you
December 5th, 2007 at 10:21 pm
Please change my e-mail account into mail classic version. This new mail version is wasting my time & I’m frustating. It is headache making for me. I can’t do anything in this stupid vesion.
December 5th, 2007 at 10:23 pm
Ditto Steve, Sherri and a few others. I have old email with attachments that I really need to get to. What was wrong with the old email? Please fix ASAP. I can’t change my email because too many business contacts have this one.
December 6th, 2007 at 1:20 am
wellcome
December 6th, 2007 at 2:55 am
OK I’m not the only one who can’t get their mail deleted, when will this be fixed?
December 6th, 2007 at 3:28 am
thank you
December 6th, 2007 at 4:13 am
The new mail and the new Yahoo! do one thing that aggravates the heck out of me – when I hit a link a WHOLE NEW WINDOW opens. I hate that more than any other task bar clutter. I want one window, no more.
I would also appreciate being able to mark a message as spam without being required to open it.
December 6th, 2007 at 4:32 am
It is nice to see open honest communications from Yahoo. You listen to what we say and you are honest with us.
December 6th, 2007 at 4:51 am
Did I miss something, or did Ebay recently buy Yahoo. When things are going smoothly, Ebay seems to screw it up with their so-called improvements. This is what Yahoo has done here. Instead of improving a product, Yahoo has created havoc for its users.
December 6th, 2007 at 5:01 am
Ditto other comments. I endured the new Beta less than one day. Let me know when the thing finally gets as good as the classic. And, one unforgiveable error: when I insert the locations for Yahoo weather, the classic has them correctly spelled; the new has many misspellings, e.g., Pisa Italy is misspelled Pise, Siena Italy is misspelled Sienne. These city names are the same in English as in Italian, so that is not an excuse. Are your experts literate?
December 6th, 2007 at 7:31 am
Agree with the above comments that the new ‘Improved’ version of receiving emails DOES NOT work and is a step backwards. It is causing me nothing but problems.
December 6th, 2007 at 7:36 am
If you could just get rid of the whole “secure” Yahoo domain keys maybe my inbox would not be full of spam from “Yahoo” users. Essentially by saying all emails are valid if they have this domain key, you subvert the spam filter.
So to all you spammers out there just open a hundred Yahoo accounts and you can spam Yahoo users anytime you want! Thanks Yahoo Mail!
December 6th, 2007 at 8:15 am
I am so aggrivated with the new yahoo I am looking into using another company. I, along with others, cannot delete or switch back to mail classic.
December 6th, 2007 at 8:42 am
I really like the classic version because you are immediately taken to your mail — the beta looks more like a home page, than my mailbox. I also understand the need for more ad space, but it seems intrusive here. I’m going to stick with Classic as long as I can and I’ll have to rethink things when the “upgrade” becomes manditory.
December 6th, 2007 at 9:01 am
Just realize that for something new and doesn’t working smoothly as many user expected will make dissapointed for everyone…keep runing the new yahoo as I thoug, when all the systems working well the user will be happy and salute for your great YAHOO (IT) TEAM…. All the best
December 6th, 2007 at 9:10 am
I can’t open my emails anymore!!! HELP!
December 6th, 2007 at 9:40 am
Just my two cents on Spam. I agree with Bonnie about giving Premium customers more addresses to block. I use the disposable addresses when I sign up at sites but that doesn’t limit the number of spam messages the get past the bulk folder. Weird thing that I’ve noticed, every once-in-a-while, I’ll switch to the new version to see if it’s any better and as soon as I do, the amount of spam messages in my Inbox double. I end up switching back to Classic and that seems to help with the amount.
December 6th, 2007 at 11:38 am
At home the new mail system worked beautifully but I had every problem Steve listed when I accessed my account at work. Here is the biggest problem. 99% of the time I use yahoo at work. I do have one thing to add on his list. the Sign out button didn’t work either.
December 6th, 2007 at 12:30 pm
i’m stuck in mail classic, can’t delete, send, forward, nothing. it won’t let me out. all i want is my old mail system back. please help!!

December 6th, 2007 at 3:06 pm
Please change me back to Classic Email. I can’t do anything with this system. I can’t read, send or forward or delete. Nothing works. It is making me angry. Who changed it? How did this happen? Please tell me what I have to do to change it back. It is driving me nuts!!!

December 7th, 2007 at 12:39 am
Seems like 95% are having problems with the new format, including me. If you ever get it fixed I’ll reconsider.
December 7th, 2007 at 5:18 am
i love yahoo for a long time.
and i tried to use new format, but still changed into classic – it’s better!!
December 7th, 2007 at 7:22 am
Keep yahoo classic the way it is. Don’t change a thing. Its easy to use and easy to use the email function as it is.
Thanks Yahoo Mail
December 7th, 2007 at 7:28 am
Although the new format for yahoo mail is very attractive, it bothers me that yahoo messenger is integraded in with it. As any yahoo messenger user knows, there is so many ways for “unwanted” solicitaion to occur through the use of messenger.
First time I tried the beta version, I had 5 off line messages from people I don’t know. 2nd time I tried the new mail, I had 3 unwanted off lines. And this last time I tried it, I have gotten 2 off lines. So I guess secruity is getting better and by the year 2010, I may have control over being invisible to unwanted IM’s. Until then, thanks for keeping the classic up and running, It works so much better without the integration of yahoo! messenger in it.
Another problem when you use the new yahoo! mail, it logs you off of your instant messenger. When you leave mail, you have to relog into yahoo IM. Seems the more yahoo! tries to make it easy for the end user, the more the end user has to do, to enjoy it. Take off IM from email and the program would get a very high rating from me…
December 7th, 2007 at 7:33 am
does anyone know how to get back to the old classic?
i am locked in the new one , can’t delete, forward, reply, send, nothing. others also have this problem, yahoo hasn’t given a solution. this new classic sucks.
December 7th, 2007 at 8:00 am
I upgraded Classic when it first came out and then again when in the instant chat started. It has worked great until now. When I log in it loads, and loads, and loads…..I have no chat and cannot do anything with it. So I have to switch back to classic for the time being. I use the new instant message alot, PLEASE FIX IT!!!
December 7th, 2007 at 8:02 am
PLEASE FIX. I upgraded classic months ago and now I use the instant chat. This week nothing will load…cant read, cant write, nothing. I have to go under the original classic. I have been very pleased until now. A glitch is okay for a day or two……
December 7th, 2007 at 8:10 am
I did download the new email, but returned to classic. Just cant adjust to the layout. It may need some more tweaking to be more appealing and user friendly. Just remember, the average users are not all techies.
December 7th, 2007 at 8:51 am
I too am having problems with the new Beta mail on Yahoo. No matter how many times I send soemething to the Spam folder, I keep getting the same spam message in my Inbox. It took me forever to find the small arrow to the right of the mail pane that gets rid of the terrible adds. Please Yahoo, enough adds already. The beta version is just too cluttered. I’m going back to the old version.
December 7th, 2007 at 10:35 am
Hi everyone,
-
Looks like there are still several comments from users who are having issues composing/sending/replying to email. If you are consistently having this problem, and can demonstrate it, contact me at ymailblog1[at]yahoo.com (from an email you can get to work).

December 12th, 2007 at 12:57 am
dear sir /mada,
December 12th, 2007 at 7:28 am
Is this one of the reason behind the regular downtimes?
Lately I’m experiencing a lot of problems with Yahoo refusing to load (often swallowing my outgoing message on the way).
You’re right about this being a crucial time of year in which to be able to communicate, although the same is true for January and February, when I’m expecting to hear from editors. I’ve been happy with Yahoo Mail for years, but I’m getting increasingly doubtful about its reliability.
December 12th, 2007 at 11:51 pm
my e-mail tool bar is no working before four days
December 13th, 2007 at 2:52 am
How can I update my yahoo mail classic without losing all my mails? I would like to update it because I’ve heard that there is a new version or some kind of update in which you can delete the stuff that’s in the mail you want to forward. In the classic version you can’t delete all the stuff you don’t want to forward.
Can someone help me ?
thx
December 14th, 2007 at 3:15 am
Anjan,
Seems that Yahoo! team listened to you before you said it. The new Yahoo! Mail classic has autosave feature for you. Hope you will get that version soon.
Cheers,
Ashish
December 14th, 2007 at 10:43 am
My Yahoo webmail toolbar is all collapsed in Classic version becos that ads banner and streaming ads are blocking those function tabs in Firefox browser, but it works fine and dandy with evil IE and in new version Yahoo Mail…any suggestion to fix that problem if I want to stay on Yahoo Classic?

Yet another user here with unopen-able e-mail on the Yahoo site.
Have you people told your advertisers how much you are alienating the people they are paying you to “reach out and touch”?
December 20th, 2007 at 11:06 am
The only problem I have with the New Mail is the adaptabililty to Crt Screens as opposed to the flat screens. Furthermore, I can only delete my folders in Mail Classic. Its an inconveniance, but I wish they would fix this problem amongst other gliches.

If you insist on changing my home page to the new type page I will change and do my best to never use yahoo again. I personally hate tha new lay-out and will pay, if necessary some other for my e-mails before I’ll use this new page or format. Some people just starting to use the internet will be hard pushed to use the new format. Why do you change without my permission to do so and not allow me to return to the mail classic , that I’m accostomed to. If you wanted to do something like this, why do it on a holiday when we can,t ge assistance to change back and e-mails keep piling up , some of which may mean a new job for unemployed people, such as myself waiting on certain messages. thank you but please remove your head and put it back in proper perspective.
December 31st, 2007 at 7:22 pm
Please help me remove the Classic toolbar you forced on me and covers half of my home page

What is going on that so many people appear to be in the same predictament as I am.
Thanks!
January 1st, 2008 at 5:38 am
Where will I find an answer to my question?
January 1st, 2008 at 9:17 am
The new email view has benefits and drawbacks.
On the plus side: it looks attractive and the READING PANE enables emails to be read in thumbnail view, which saves time.
You’ve eradicated a time-wasting MESSAGE BOX that appeared between reading an email and returning to the inbox.
ADVERTS are more prominent, as several people have said before, but the ads pane can easily be closed off by dragging the arrow at the edge of the emails.
But on the debit side, for me, there are several points where the new format has lost valued features of the old:
1. There’s no way to add the SIGNATURE to outgoing emails case by case (like Chris on 5 Dec I use my account for both personal and business emails and need to be able to choose when to add the signature).
2. We can no longer adjust the FONT SIZE when reading emails. This is a valuable flexibility in Classic view – it lets us increase the font when the eyes get tired, or reduce the size to scan a lengthy text quickly.
3. It’s confusing that an entire NEW WINDOW opens when we click to read an email (someone made this comment in early December).
4. Like others, I want to be able to mark an email as SPAM without first opening it to do so, and I want to be able to select all the spam folder emails with one click, to delete them all.
For the moment I’m persevering with the new format in the hope that it becomes more familiar. But I very much hope that you can correct the features above before continuing your roll-out.

January 2nd, 2008 at 8:34 pm
I cannot and have not been able to get into my mail or update anything. I am not a computer whiz and I have two children overseas in the military who I would like to have contact with. I really would appreciate anyone fixing this and letting me back into my mailbox.
January 2nd, 2008 at 8:39 pm
None of my mail selections work and I can’t compose, reply, check mail or anything. I can’t even read my messages. When I click on “Mail Classic” that doesn’t work either. This is a nightmare to pay for a service that doesn’t work. I’d like my bill to be prorated.

Thanks

I can’t forword a damn thing to my Friends,They think I quit the net.I say ever since At&t took over Yahoo has gone downhill.I have sent request after request to be shown or have your team correct the problem,Hell you don’t even answer your own mail. And as far as your disclaimer,It’s about time you assumed some responsibility. – S Taylor- California

I don’t understand why Yahoo has taken a step backward. First they chaged my beautiful home page— now they have screwed up my mail page. Now its getting harder and harder to get my “classic” page bake. Do the creaters of these pages have to keep changing things to keep their job?? From what they have done now, I think they should be replaced. I am getting to the point where I may drop Yahoo and get more sensible pages.

This is really beginning to be a problem, I use yahoo mail for both business and personal usage but due to the problems we are having with the new yahoo mail it is very straneous. When I reach to work on mornings I can not view the messages in my inbox either outbox, I can not even write a new message to send to my business personell. Honestly, I rather yahoo mail than any other because it is more managable but you’ll really ned to do something to fix this problem. While I love the new look the service isn’t great.

I downloaded the new mail amd it was better at first. Now I am not able to even use it. It doesn’t work! I reverted back to classic and …well I can send things out. I can’t delete a thing! Sometimes Yahoo doesn’t even let me go to mail at all wether it is the new one or the classic. Some things are good for change, however sometimes why change a good thing!

I agree that this is a problem. My wife and I have family out of state. It is better for us to send emails than call. We set up email with google I guess its gmail.com…we are having problems with them to.
we are unable to even go to the games . It wants us to type in a password that we can see…
However it won’t let us in the rooms to play.
Yahoo has gone down the drain. I am still hopefull.

This new mail is absolutely terrible. Hey Yahoo – not everyone has Vista and in fact not everyone enables java script! I am using NS 4.76 with js turned off. With this browser the new version displays a vertical column of non-functional icons. Somewhere waaaay down the page it tells me if I have a message. Somewhre else is a sign-out button. The compose window is big enough for about 20 characters max!!!!! If I didn’t know better I would swear that Microsoft already bought Yahoo and designed this terrible improvement! And to make it worse the “switch back to the version supported by my browser” has disappeared. I did find a way to fix this mess. It’s called gmail!

I downloaded the yahoo mail update and hate it.
How do I get the old classic mail back?
April 17th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
Hi. I need help.
I’m a long-time Yahoo! Mail Plus user, Classic mode, Win98SE, IE6. Yesterday, I suddenly had the “streamlined” :o version of Classic, and it’s made my account very, very hard to use.
The main problem is that the font size in the “Subject” column of the mail lists is HUGE. So I can only see a few letters of the subject line. I can’t see what the subject is unless I hold the mouse over the subject field to get the little pop-up. :(
I am disabled and mostly housebound, so e-mail is my main interaction with other people. I get a lot of e-mail, and I really need to be able to USE my account!
Changing my browser’s font doesn’t fix the problem. I only get a couple of extra letters. Also, the streamlined left-hand folder list column is wider than usual, so the right hand section is moved way over.
TTBOMK, I was never warned of the “streamlining”, and I certainly didn’t give my permission.
I really need this fixed ASAP, PLEASE!
Thanks!
PS How can I get rid of the news display that’s now in my account??? I don’t want to see or focus on that to get my mail!
April 19th, 2008 at 10:05 am
Ha! the same happened to one of my accounts! Huge font, that changes its size if to click (bothers my eyes, by the way), attachment download requires pop-up block turned off each time! Annoying. Very much. World news in my e-mail field? Encoding of my choice is “not recommended as it may corrupt the file” – why, why, why,!!
Please help me to get the previous classic view (by the way it is not computer setting, my other account is still old classic)!
April 25th, 2008 at 1:18 am
well I was into something else looking at things and when I came back to my e-mail it was all changed and I don’t know how or why it happened, But from what I tried I did not like it one bit. I can tell you what to do with it.
I can’t figure it out because I didn’t download anything, What a mess…
April 28th, 2008 at 11:49 pm
I do not like the updated Yahoo Mail Classic.
How do I get back to the older Yahoo Mail. I can’t choose to forward as attachment or inline text. It won’t give me preview option of attachments and his difficult to work with. My old Mail Options aren’t there either.
I have been using Yahoo Mail for a longtime and this is the first time I that I logged off and when I logged on my mail account had changed. When deleting messages from my inbox that I didn’t delete the day before, I have to click Show All Messages cause they don’t appear right away in my inbox.
This version of Yahoo Classic is terrible. Please someone help me change this back to the real Classic Yahoo Mail.

I have an antique Mac and I am not able to sign in on my email anymore. PLEASE HELP ME..I HAVE TWO EMAIL ACCOUNTS SET UP ON YAHOO. The first one that I set up was and the second one that I set up was . When I first was introduced to the computer in 2001 by my son, he set me up on a msn hotmail acct. After they changed to Windows Live, eventually I couldn’t get it on my Mac. I did discover that I could get it on my cellphone, so I started forwarding everything to my yahoo emails. I have been sending all the pics of my grandchildren to my yahoo accounts and now when I get on there to see them or to fwd.them to family,I can’t even get signed in. My husband and I are medically retired and are on a fixed income and cannot afford to buy a new computer. The one we have was given to us by our son. Please help!!!! Is there anything that I can do to be able to get back on my yahoo accounts that I have had set up for years. I guess the best way to get back in touch with me is to email me at my hotmail acct. that I can get on my cellphone: . I appreciate you reading my long and rambling letter and I will be very greatful for any help or advice that you can give me. Sincerely, Karla Fladstol

I’ve been a Yahoo subscriber for years – - through flash.net , SBC , Yahoo, and ATT Yahoo. I wanted DSL and Yahoo said they couldn’t provide in my area , so- – I went to ATT Bellsouth and they told me they could switch my old e-mail address #$%#*@flash.net over and I could recieve on them.
I subscribed and was going to let my ATT SBC Yahoo account expire a natural death when my credit card date ran out> Meanwhile I tried to get ATT Bellsouth to pick up my old address.
Guess what – - now they say they can’t!!! Only Yahoo addresses!
Then I tried to convert my old flash.net address over to a new free Yahoo. com address and about half-way through the process, it errored!! Now my flash.net address is gone!!!
Also the new address won’t recieve mail!!!
Also my Yahoo Idenity is messed up!!!
Also I can’t get into my account or recieve from Yahoo Personals!!!!!
I have tried for 13 days now to get someone to do something to straighten it out and noone has done anything!!!!!! It is impossible to get to talk to a live person now that my original account has run out.
CAN SOMEONE PLEEEEEEESE HELP????????????
