Which Yahoo! Mail do you really have?

Based on the comments being left, as well as some of the email that has been rolling in, it has dawned on me that “what we have here, is … failure to communicate” (I guess I’m in a movie mood this week). Anyway, I really don’t want to sound petty but if I’m going to let people here know what is on your minds I need to make sure I’m telling the right stuff to the right people. So the goal of today’s blog post is to help get more of us on the same page with which group of users you may fall into.

Yahoo! has two distinct offerings for Mail. The original version is what we are calling “Classic”, and it’s the HTML version that I’m sure almost all of you have used it at one time or another. The other version, commonly referred to as “Beta”, is known as “New Mail” (or “All New Mail”), is built off of an AJAX framework, and is the one that features drag ‘n’ drop functionality, integrated Messenger, RSS feeds, and a number of other features that have been outlined on this very blog.

Now once you have identified which product you are using the next step is to identify if you have been transitioned to the latest version. For “New Mail” it is very easy. Just about everyone that is using the New Mail is already out of Beta, but the easy way to tell is if the Yahoo! Mail logo in the top left corner still says Beta, you are still awaiting transition. If you are a Classic Mail user, the changes are little more subtle, so I’ll run through some of them.

The most obvious way to tell is looking at the Welcome page after logging in. If you see your Avatar, you are in the older version of Classic

http://ymailupdates.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/11/oldclassicavatar-1.jpg

and if you see a new & improved News module below the space where you Avatar used to be, you are in the updated Classic.

http://ymailupdates.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/11/topstories.jpg

If you are in the updated version of Classic your Options link (in the upper right) will no longer look like this -

http://ymailupdates.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/11/oldclassicoptions.jpg

and instead looks like this (note the links have been reduced and the Options link is now a drop-down menu)

http://ymailupdates.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/classic1.jpg

Another way to tell if you are in the updated Classic is the look of your Inbox. Here is the older version (with “Bulk” folder and no flagging option) -

http://ymailupdates.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/11/oldclassicbulkflags.jpg

and the updated Classic looks like this (Bulk changed to Spam, and a Flag column added) -

http://ymailupdates.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/classic3.jpg

So to sum up, we’ve got 3 main buckets that should cover just about all of your feedback needs.

    • Original Classic Mail
    • Updated Classic Mail
    • New Mail (or TMFKAB – The Mail Formerly Known As Beta)

Again, sorry if that seemed silly to some of you, but I absolutely have to know what feedback relates to what version each of you is on.

      Thanks,

      http://ymailupdates.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/blogpic.jpgRyan K.

      Hi everyone,
      -
      john and eenoogje,
You are welcome to stick with Classic :)
      -
      John and cdm9005,
We are rolling it out gradually (just like we did with New Mail a few months back). We are also being extra careful because the holiday season is approaching and we know that it is a critical time for people to communicate. I’ll update as soon as I can.
      -
      Michael,
You can switch back to Classic by clicking on the “Mail Classic” link just below your Yahoo! ID, or the “Switch to Yahoo! Mail Classic” link under the Options dropdown.
      -
      josths,
We understand that “bloat” is a concern for many web users, and are always looking for ways to streamline. The list of changes outlines several things that are going away as well as being added.

Overall I do not mind the changes to the new mail. The only thing that bothers me about it is that I suddenly have a news page to go through to get to the actual mail. I go to mail via my Yahoo and do not want the extra page but cannot remove it. I would love an option to delete the extra page or make the mail page the default. Is there any way to do this? Thanks.

Y! Mail Classic in its updated form is a nice evolution of the original and will be satisfactory until a final decision concerning Y! mash is made. I like the layout, pulldown extensions and all, of the AJAX-based Y! Mail Beta; but other components, such as Y! Calendar and Y! Notepad, need to be rewritten for AJAX in order to blend seamlessly with the new Y! Mail.

I too have tried the beta twice (at least), and like the layout and features. However, it is not nearly as fast. I’m sure it is due to the afformentioned “Bloat”. Each time I have gone back to the original mail to speed things up. Sorry, it’s a good idea, but for someone who just want a good clean, FAST, email program.

I have a drop down on a yahoo home page for ‘Mail, Messenger, Radio, Weather, Local, and Horoscopes’.
I used to be able to put my cursor over ‘Mail’ and it would drop down and show me the subject and who my first few emails in my inbox were. NOW as of about a month ago (around the same time I upgraded to Yahoo plus), there are no emails listed, just a link that says “Please go to ‘mail.yahoo.com’ to retrieve you mail”.
What happened, and how do I get it back?

      Great.

So are there any plans to get everyone on the same mail so you aren’t trying to talk to 3 different groups of users at once?

Yahoo’s been through a lot of changes lately, and while the improvements have been great, there is a lot of confusion, mostly caused by these “failures to communicate”. And I hate to say it, but a lot of those failures are on yahoo’s end.

Choices are good, but on the other hand the entire point of a brand name is consistency. I think it’s time yahoo got organized.

For many years, I used Lotus Notes[tm] at work and went nuts dealing with the differences re Yahoo Classic. When Yahoo launched its new Beta, which is quite similar to the Notes[tm]e-mail architecture, I glomed right on to it. Now, even though retired, I still prefer the New Yahoo e-mail.

Oh and while I recognize the importance of ads, when they get to the point that they stop mail from loading or interfere with other functions, they’re a a problem.

One that happens a lot unfortunately. Ads that cause problems, make loud noises, take over my page or interfere with the million things I’m trying to get done in a day turn me off of both Yahoo and the product advertised.

Animation and flashy ads may look great, but when they make it take 10 minutes or more to load or refresh my inbox, and I can’t do anything in the meantime but sit there and wait, it’s a problem. I don’t check mail as often and communication is delayed.

I used to constantly have a mail tab open, any time during the day I would slip over, answer mail as it came in, then get back to my day, but with the interference from the ads in new mail I can’t do that. The constant reloading and refreshing of the ads makes every mail trip take at least 20 minutes. I have to set aside an hour every morning and every evening for mail and just not answer what I can’t get to in that time.

Do yourselves a favor, keep the ads simple.

After seven years, I still love Yahoo Mail and will keep using it as long as I can consider it “mine” through settings and/or preferences to make it work the way I want. However, I would review my usage when I’m forced into something that doesn’t work for me. That’s why I’m back with Classic after trying to use New Mail for a week.

The biggest thing that didn’t work for me is the size of the reading pane is too small. Resizing the message pane to it’s smallest amount still doesn’t leave the reading pane big after screen space is taken by the header, toolbar and footer. Reading a message ten lines at a time is no good. I know the message can be opened in it’s own tab but that is extra navigation (three clicks vs one) and load time. From a user interface standpoint, reading messages is MUCH harder in New Mail than Classic.

Second biggest is the slow response time. Yes, I have cable ‘net – not dial up. I actually like the new AJAX toolbar but not at the expense of speed.

Last is some changes in the UI that don’t prevent but slow down navigation. Logging into New Mail puts us at the “new & improved News module” you’ve shown in the blog above. I already have MyYahoo for news so why would I want to see it when I log into Mail? That just doesn’t make sense.

I know the Mail Blog isn’t a support site, but thanks for forwarding our comments to the right people.

I am not sure which mail I have, I know I had Beta,on my dsl in Kendallville, but since I am traveling and using dial up I think I have been switched to classic and then to new then to something else. It is very confussing to deal with all of these different mails. And then somtimes when I am tryng to read they all just disappear. Why don’t you just have a simple read and write click to do this instead of compose and draft. I think Yahoo is very slow in downloading there mail folder and then they have to download the one theat you have selected. Then double click to read, then you have to move it and you can’t put it in a Rec. folder from the person who sent it. Change is good but also bad.

Sounds like theres a lot of users with slow computers and slow connections, or who are basic users (which is fine). The new mail has always worked great for me, its very responsive and the features are nice. I use professional desktop clients for my mail and have for years, so the familiarity when using my yahoo account is appealing. I will never go back to the poor, clunk classic interface; unless of course I get stuck on a terrible setup, which is unlikely.

First blush, it looked too much like microsoft’s hotmail. Pressed for time, I went right back to Classic Yahoo Mail.

Now, I have to copy and paste from the address book, to compose and send an email. It no longer populates the field, when you click on the link.

It would also be nice to be able to send up to 300 emails, at one time.

My connection is Verizon Wireless, exclusively.

You know, I had yahoo mail that had so much saving room on it. All of the sudden, when trying to access emails I had been saving, they are all gone. I want to know what happen to all the space that was available, why I wasn’t told to copy the messages before they were deleted and why I have not been told there is another huge change.

I have had yahoo since www first began. I have the same address since the 4th year of starting. Now it is getting to the point where I will have to find another mail, gmail possibly, to suit my needs.

Service was the main point of sticking with you over the years. Lack of communication is what is going to change my loyalty. The ball is in your court and your response will make the decision, or lack of response.

I like the options available in the new mail, but they typically don’t work. I’m often irritated with error messages, emails that don’t load, etc. I’m very close to switching back to the “Classic without any cool features” version simply because it was more reliable. Hopefully the issues will be fixed soon. :(

I have posted here a few times now and each and every time there are a few common points of fact I have found. Of the 55 post only a few care for the “new mail” and I am in agreement with the majority I prefer the “classic”. I have tired to contact Yahoo about some of the following issues, I have even ask while on the phone with customer service for my merchant account and they refuse to talk about anything to do with “new mail”.
Here are the common complaints and by the way I connect at 10 MEGS.
      loads to slow
      errors
      advertisement
      to “busy”
      small reading pain
I have tried several times to use “new mail” and experience all the same problems, I just need mail when I go to mail; fast, easy, reliable mail. I use My Yahoo as a home page and now that our browsers allow for tabbing my email account loads with my home page. PLEASE before anyone thinks that I am down on Yahoo know this I pay for my music, merchant account and web hosting through Yahoo and would hope that it does not come down to paying for my mail. I would like for Yahoo to respond to all the complaints about “new email” and know that we would not take the time to post our comments if we did not care!

Look into Mozilla Firefox. Better, more secure browser than IE. Has add-ons to control animation/flash etc, etc.

I use Yahoo! New Mail (or TMFKAB – The Mail Formerly Known As Beta). I switched to Beta a long, long time ago and never switched back. It’s my favorite email application. Maybe you need an “option” that says “email app & version”. Ha! Ha! Thanks for all the good work.

I hate the new mail only because it never loads, and when the option to use classic mail appears, if i don’t click it right away, i cannot get it to work later. but the classic mail loads right away, is there a possibility that u could use some of the old software, and just change it for the new stuff, instead of writing all new software and having all the problems… suggestion, have 2 teams write software for the new email system (one rewriting the old and one writing all new)??

I love the new mail format and don’t have any problem with the speed – get cable people!

My one complaint is about the search feature. In the old version you could search just the inbox or just the sent folder, which I really liked and it saved a lot of time. Any chance that feature could be incorporated into the new version?

      Thanks!

For nearly ten years I have used Yahoo! Mail as my exclusive e-mail program. Until 1 1/2 years ago I used Classic, then I used Beta, and now I’m trying to use All-New Mail. When Yahoo! first announced Beta, I assumed that one day Classic would be discontinued. I switched to Beta as soon as it was available to me, thinking I would get the pain of switching to a new interface over with sooner than later. I really don’t want to switch back.

However, I’m encountering multiple problems and delays with All-New Mail when I use both a desktop connected to a cable modem, and a laptop with high-speed wireless – in a major metropolitan area where ISP service is quite reliable. It would not be fair or accurate to simply attribute the problems that many users are experiencing to the type of Internet connection they are using. I only had occasional delays with the loading of pages when I used Beta. Nothing has changed with my Internet service since my account was upgraded from Beta to All-New Mail a few weeks ago. I doubt very much that users’ Internet service is the cause of many of the problems.

Some service problems must be due to programming errors in the All-New Mail program, and network issues at Yahoo! Obviously, there’s nothing end-users can do to fix those concerns. Yahoo! will have to rely on the patience of its loyal users to wait for these to be resolved.

Compatibility problems with certain browsers, browser settings, and add-ons also seem to be impeding the proper functioning of All-New Mail features. After my account was upgraded from Beta, the integrated chat in my account would not allow me to put it in on-line status. After ten hours of researching a solution, I learned my integrated chat wasn’t working because I hadn’t given permission for third-parties to store Flash content on my computer. While these types of issues aren’t problems per se with All-New Mail, they will nevertheless be perceived as such by many people.

Yahoo! engineers certainly must be aware of many potential conflicts All-New Mail will have with users’ computer software and settings. Yahoo! would do well by its users if it compiled and posted well-organized information in its on-line Help section on troubleshooting solutions that users can apply to their systems. The current section on problems and errors in on-line Help is not comprehensive, and needs to be updated to address many of the concerns with All-New Mail. Perhaps Customer Care could be apprised of more of these concerns and their respective solutions, so communication with users is more productive.

If Yahoo! doesn’t acknowledge its users’ frustration and disappointment with the All-New Mail service in a meaningful way – and continues to address these concerns only with occasional responses to individual blog comments and lackluster support – legions of users will forgo All-New Mail for Classic Mail, or abandon Yahoo! altogether for competitor programs.

I am using Yahoo! Mail since 1998. I used it from several parts of the world in America and Europe, with dialup connections in hotels. I have never had any problems With Classic Yahoo! Mail.

Now I have DSL at home and tried to use the new Yahoo! Mail, but as I have a 15″ monitor and use it in 800×600, I cannot use the New Mail comfortably, that is the first reason not to change now.

The second reason is that I work in Information Technology and I am surrounded with computers the whole day and I simply dont like the new Yahoo! Mail because when I am at home using my personal Email it remembers me the Office and my work because of its “Professional Email Client” look, as other user pointed out before.

With Classic I really feel “At Home” and doing “personal stuff” unrelated to work issues.

I wish to thank Yahoo! for its continual improvement efforts, including unlimited storage and leaving us the choice of using any of the two Mail Interfaces. Keep up the good work!

I looked at the new format, and I was not impressed. I don’t want my home email format to look like my office email. That would make me feel like my work day is just continuing.

If there are specific improvements you want to offer to Yahoo Classic, please offer the individual items à la carte.

I couldn’t locate certain links and after trying about 2-3 days, I switched back to classic. I am not afraid to try new things as they seem to be the way of the future, but this was too challenging. Just like Vista, it sucks.

NewMail does not let me sign in easily! It shows 2 error screens then opens the mail page, which is not the flagged updated version. I’m using the classic, also not updated, which is faster, neater and usually preferable. HOWEVER, the Spam Blocker is asleep on the job. I constantly have Spam in with my mail – and they’re obvious!!

I have used the original Classic for many years and it meets my needs. I sampled Beta when it first came out and I did not like the look and feel, so I switched back. I recently took a quick peek at New Mail, which looks better than the original Beta. However, the only added feature that New Mail offers that I am aware of and care about is drag-n-drop, and that is not enough for me to switch from Classic and learn a new layout and encounter the issues others are describing.

By the way, with “New” Mail and “Classic” Mail naming, I wonder if Yahoo! hired someone who worked in Coca-Cola’s marketing department during the 1980s.

I tried the new version but keep having problems as describe by others. I got pop ups even though my pop up blocker was on. Also, I kept experiencing error messages that I didn’t have before. After switching back to classic, the same problems followed me. For example, this morning I log on the internet and got a huge advertisement page that I couldn’t get rid of. The only thing I could think to do was ctrl+alt+delete to end that task. I’m very frustrated because I’m not a computer person. All I wanted a simple way to check my emails and search the web.

If your computer has enough firepower, adapting to the new email is easy enough. Otherwise, stay with Classic. But this email”upgrade” is another of example of Yahoo not thinking deeply enough about things. Yahoo upgraded the forums on the financials a while back and just butchered the upgrade with the terrible changes. At least half the people I know stopped using them (including me). Yahoo has to learn to be at least as clever as Google to survive.

Why do most of the people posting comments keep on griping about all of the problems/bugs that Beta has? Everything should be explained just by the name: B-E-T-A-!-!-!

I was under the impression that BETA meant that it passed the Alpha phase and is undergoing the trial-and-error procedure.

The bottom line of what I have to say is that most of you don’t understand the concept of Beta.

P.S.: As for me, I’ll stick with the beta!

The single most important thing you could do to improve Yahoo Mail (New) is let me take control of the trash. Or alternatively, let messages stay in there for a month before you trash them.

There are a LOT of messages I may need for a week or two, but would not want them permanently in my inbox, as it just clutters it for searches. Deleting is easy, just one button.

But the trash empties at random times and clears everything out, not just old stuff.

BTW, I really like the new way you can refine the search.

Half the time when I try to forward a message with a picture in it (as inline text) it won’t show the picture. I also cannot view many pictures sent to me. I never used to have this problem. I am considering using another email if I can’t find a way to fix this. My options are set to view pictures.

Not a fan of new Yahoo mail. Tried to convince myself twice to use (beta, then new) it but I’ll stick to classic- used it since 1998.

New Yahoo email – too slow, sometimes loses messages when browsing or moving message to another folder, HATE the integration with IM – I was trying too work yet kept getting interrupted by IM’ers, I have a Yahoo home page- why the heck would I want another news section in my mail – I am in my mail to use mail not browse! Did I mention too bloated & slow.

I prefer my classic old email page as well as my
own design at my.yahoo.com. I personal dislike to get evertime transferred to the new beta page automatically and have to stir myself back through several pages to my own page which I set up the way I like it. That is the same with my email; the one above and eljorg95917@yahoo.com
So please let me have the versions I have or I will look for other choice which is fine with me too.

Keep trying. Maybe someday someone will figure it out.

I don’t like the new mail (formerly known as Beta), mainly because of the built in messenger. When I get online to check my e-mail, I want to just check my e-mail, not chat with someone. It’d be nice if that were a customizable option, but it doesn’t seem to be.

I tried the “All New” email, twice, and changed it back to classic both times. I use a satellite connection, and it is very fast… but the new email is too slow for the limited time I have. I use Yahoo for both personal and business email, and time waiting for uploads is unproductive time.

One thing that does not seem to have been taken into consideration is the age of many users. Computer users are getting older, and more older people are using the internet now than used to. Changing to a smaller font is a disservice for those with aging eyes, and not-so-good to start with vision.

It seems that the desire is to look like Outlook Express… a package I decided many years ago that I did not like, and would not use. If we end up having no choice but to switch to this, I will switch to another service.

As many others have said… if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Give us options we can add to what we already have if we want them, but don’t try to force us into something we don’t want.

      My two cents worth…

I dont like new arrangements on my yahoo mail. for example there is sudden change that you did not ask me before- FLAG or UNFLAGGED messages. what does that mean? It gives only trouble to me. I have to unflag before I reply to such messages. It is no use.

You can update your classic mail by clicking “all new mail”, located on the upper right corner of your window.

going back to mail classic ; click “mail classic ” button located in the upper left corner of the window.

I have been forced to switch back to the clasic version one too many times, and now I have completely given up on the new version.

I am and have been using Yahoo Classic for about 10+ years now. I tried the Yahoo Beta a couple of times but found it too slow for my liking. The message window is too small.

I also use Gmail and love it ! A mail thread is kept together. There is less clutter in the Inbox. It is very easy to find your messages. Automatic filters can be set up for the mail to go into different folders. And all this for free.

I do feel sad as I slowly migrate from Yahoo to Gmail.

Just update the classic mail. Beta is awfully SLOW and not easy to use. Do you expect me to scroll down to thousands of emails to get to my first email? Emails need to have “pages”, just like Gmail and Yahoo classic mail do.

I hope classic mail lasts FOREVER!

To the people saying that the people running into problems with the new email are running on “slower or older machines” – nonsense.

3.0 GHz Intel CPU, Win XP on RAID 0 10k RPM SATA hard drives, 2 GB RAM, Nvidia 8800 GTX video card, etc etc etc – no esoteric OS or hardware.

Don’t confuse POORLY coded (optimized?) software with poorly performing hardware. The new email client is bloated and performs awfully. I really like the functionality of it, but flat out can’t stand the way it bogs down my machine.

Also, the fact that it (at least used to when I was using it) opens and reads emails when you’d go to move them to new folders – basically would download whatever awful spam was in them, and let whomever sent it know that you were out there and “reading” their spam. Yahoo’s spam filters are HORRID compared to Google’s GMail.

Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE yahoo email, and have been using it for nearly 10 years now. I’ll continue to use it, but there are some substantial improvements that Yahoo needs to focus on (in my opinion) other than making their email client “look purty”.

My problem is like a bunch of other comments, it takes too long to just look at mail, as I am stuck on a dial-up account. I have no use for the beta and hope classic is still offered in the future. Otherwise, I will have to abandon Yahoo Mail.

I have Yahoo! Mail Classic, but would prefer to be on the beta version. The problem with that, is when I change over, the “new mail” tries to automatically install a feature for Yahoo! Chat, which I am not allowed to use at work, and so my connection to the internet is instantly severed by the internet security office here at my work. Any way to get around this annoying install so that I can use the new (and in my opinion, better) version without being locked out by my employer? Any help would be much appreciated.

I’m “using” the Beta version because I USUALLY prefer that format and versatility. However, that assumes I have ACCESS to it, and it’s not down AGAIN because of yet another bug! LIKE TODAY! I rely on my email professionally as well as personally, and if Yahoo can’t provide reliable email service, they are forcing me to consider other options. Either devote the resources to solving the bugs because that’s how you keep customers, or don’t spend the money on fixing the bugs and lose your customers. What a dilemma.

The login status for Messenger in Mail should be persistent from session to session. So if you login to Mail from a machine away from work, allow it to complete the connection to Chat, and then sign out of chat from the chat dropdown, your account should remember that the next time you login. Even if you login from a different machine.

I think the new Beta rocks, great stuff!!

In general I love it, but I am not able to chat with Live Messenger users… I get their messages, I have them on my contacts list, but when I reply I get a message saying “To chat with a Windows Live user, you must first add them to your online list”, then I hit add but I keep getting the same message when trying to chat w. them.

To me this is a bug cause I have already chat to them but then it stopped.

I have the new beta version and I love it! I even love the fact that I can chat, ie IM, someone while they and I are online in Yahoo, which is so cool because if I am on a computer that doesn’t have Yahoo Messenger, I can still chat with my friends. Very cool by the way to have two programs/two parts of Yahoo in one. One thing though that bothers me sometimes, is that Yahoo takes a bit of time to completely upload. Other than that, in other times it comes up very quickly. Oh and by the way Yahoo, you guys are too funny, when my friends are typing on the other end, you make the funniest remarks, you have me laughin all the time.

Have done a live chat with two of your agents who did not have a clue how to solve my problem. They escalated it and the responses I received did not address my issue. Perhaps rather than having old classic, new classic, beta etc you should pick one and stick with it until your support personnel receive proper training. Again, my question is HOW DO I GO BACK TO THE ORIGINAL CLASSIC?

I don’t know about any of you yahoo users but once I clicked on the beta version, I found that I not only cannot access my mail but I cannot, at all, in every attempt made, get back to mail classic which worked. I sent yahoo complaints using their complaint editor and their feedback is unreadable because I can’t open any mail in beta. I sent the same thing and gave two alternate e-mail addresses that work. Yahoo has tried several beta versions of the e-mail over the years and have failed miserably. And you can’t even find the 800 # to try to talk to them about this.

Do yourselves a favor and stay with the classic and don’t even THINK about clicking to beta. You may never be able to use your account again.

Logically, I thought that when I chose “beta”, I would GET “Beta” each time I logged in to my mail….The fact that you CAN go back & forth is ok, but, why the inconsistencies? Can’t you stabilize all icons to one choice and let US change styles? (if desired) Seems to me a pretty logical fix…..???

Well, I like the “New” version and even though mine has a link to switch back to classic, I have never tried it to see if it works. However, I have always been able to get my mail. Also, however, I can no longer get to the part that allows me to change the internal question and answer that would be asked if I had to change the password, an thoughts on that one. Clearly things have been lost in the transition, and not sure anyone cares!

I regret a recent change to my Original Classic. I can’t get any of the toolbar options to work on the Updated version. Improvement is not always better for the simple minded. I want to change back to the original version. How can I make it happen?

I’m using the older version of classic. I switched to beta when it first came out, but I found it hard to use and understand so I switched back. One of the problems I remember was I couldn’t just click the “insert contacts” button to add the people to send my email to, and I couldn’t figure out how to do it on beta without manually typing in the email addresses. It also took FOREVER to get it to load so I could check my mail in the first place. I’m happy with mine the way it is, although it could use a few easy-to-use updates.

      Ryan,

I have a few Yahoo! email accounts. What can I say? I love a good thing. I have been a Y! proponent from its start. But the Y! Mail Beta is troubling. Here are my issues:
      - I was a beta tester and my primary email is stuck in perptual beta format.
      - My other Y! mail is in beta but has features my original does not. Example: one has the “show images” button, the other does not. It seems as if my original/primary email was not upgraded.
      - SLOW! OMG, loading the AJAX components is slow. So bad I have actually thought of switching products. That is not good.
      - Y! Messenger in my mail? Nor for me. In fact, confusning when my Offline Mgs pops up as I long into Y! IM. Just not a fan of this feature.

Would love to chat to a support person to clear up my issues.

Thank you for the oppty to share.

      Michael

Except for the much too small reading pane, I love the New/Beta version. I have cable, so no problems with slow loading. It’s hanging a bit right now, but only a few seconds. Even I’m not so busy that a few seconds of waiting is going to kill me. I did have an issue with all the advertising, but when I renewed my “Plus” subscription, they all stopped, and my email opened with my email and not a news page. What’s up with all you people who are complaining that they shouldn’t have to PAY for their mail. And, you also complain an awful lot about something that is a free service. Maybe you should try some gratitute, huh? If you want perfection, you should be prepared to pay for it. Thanks, Yahoo!, for the services you give us (even if you do force feed us advertising for things that few of us are interested in).

Just signed on to the new Beta. I love that it’s so fast. Also like that all my emails are listed. Changed my page style to show all the ads on the right hand side of the page as that’s what am used to. Like that better. But this stuff is FAST! Only thing don’t like is the 360 thing. The whole thing is just better to me. Thanks so much!

I started using the Beta email as soon as I noticed the option to switch. I really love the ease of selecting email that is scattered through my inbox and then dragging and dropping into the folder that I want to put it in. I like the fact that I can move an opened email to whatever folder I want to put it in. I enjoy having my messenger open while I am in my email withhout having to have another window open, however, on that note; I miss having the option of appearing available to some of the contacts on my list, while appearing invisible to the rest. As far as I am concerned, I approve of the New Yahoo! email.

Why can’t Yahoo be accessed on non-phone PDA’s unless we actually type yahoo.com? I type m.yahoo.com and it wants to download my Document file onto my pda! I just want mobile email back… let’s not go into the unfairness of 2.0 Yahoo Go only being for smartphones or newer PDA’s with WM5 or 6. There are tons of wm2003 pda’s still out here working just fine. We need a solution, either a mobile page that works no matter what you use like Gmail or a Go that works on ALL platforms and doesn’t hog 4mb of memory!

I received email from Yahoo! Small Business advising me that my service was being changed, with instructions for setting up POP on my “business email” account. But as far as I know, I don’t *have* a business email account, and when I followed the instructions the POP server agreed with me. So do I have to do anything related to this change, or am I OK?

I tried the Beta when it was first made available and still have it to this day and I’m waiting for the full conversion. One of my favorite features is the intergrated IM in mail. If you work at a place where IM software is not allowed to be downloaded (or can’t be) on company computers; this is great. I can still IM my wife at lunch and not break company rules! Keep up the good work guys. I guess some people don’t do change very well. Have it on home computer as well as work. Never had a problem yet with it.

Yahoo mail has always been slow, and if it gets
any slower I’m going back to my ISP’s POP3 mail.

Not everybody carries a ton of etoys along with
them that require web-based mail, y’know.

Plus, my ISP doesn’t clobber me with inane ads.

Hey! I just convinced myself. :)

Goodbye, Yahoo, and thanks for all the fish.

      Akshay,
      -
Once you send a message the draft automatically moves from your Drafts folder to your Sent folder. You can override this action by holding the Shift key when sending your message.

I preferred the “add signature” check-box, I don’t add my sig to ALL my msgs, now I have to delete it from the ones I don’t want.
Also, I used my Draft folder to hold some form letters I would send, NOW, when I send them, they get DELETED!
