Optimize Mail by updating that older Toolbar

Recently there was some chatter over in the Y-Mail Group about some messaging that urges users to update their Toolbar to make Mail faster. I’m guessing that some of you folks may have seen the message too, so it’s probably worth commenting on here as well.

First and foremost, this does not mean that you have to have Yahoo! Toolbar in order to use Yahoo! Mail. Nor does it mean that we are only giving faster service for people using Toolbar.
What it does mean is that the Toolbar team has been working hard to streamline how the Toolbar works. And if you aren’t using the leaner, meaner, version you may not be enjoying the best experience possible with Mail.
Now you should only be seeing the message if you are ALREADY using Toolbar, but are using an older version. If you aren’t already a Toolbar user, but are seeing this message anyway, let me know so I can find out why and get that fixed.

Wonderful news!! Now if they could only get the Yahoo toolbar to consistently load when I start my yahoo… rather than the occasional (as in “even as I speak”) loading of a generic toolbar that has none of my items on it. Yahoo marches on…. and right off a cliff.

Please fix this Yahoo toolbar problem, it has been going on for 2 to weeks 3! “ERROr 0×5″ “Not able to update, check your internet connection”

I cannot comment on the new toolbar because when I click on the “Update Yahoo! Toolbar now” on the http://ymailupdates.com/blog/?p=143 webpage nothing happens.

I’ve got the toolbar installed, b/c it came pre-installed on my work computer. I don’t use it, tho. I would really, REALLY like an option to tell this screen to go away, and, more importantly don’t ask me again.
Is that do-able?
November 28th, 2007 at 4:49 am
Please help me out here! I’m with the guys who can’t delete, send, forward, reply etc on my mail.
Thanks

I think I will pass on the new toolbar - seems like complaints are running about 10-1, must be like Vista.
November 28th, 2007 at 6:29 am
PLEASE PLEASE put the old version back in place .nothing works. I hate it. if not I’ll get rid of Yahoo. I can’t retreive Ancestry and othe genealogical web sites.

Like the new picture, ryan. You’re quite the cutie.

I dumped the Yahoo toolbar because it would not load properly often displaying a generic toolbar. Sometimes it would only display a few icons. Clearly, this is a problem with the server on Yahoo’s end. Until Yahoo is willing to invest in reliability, and decent spam blocking, all you are going to hear about is the grief your firm is causing users rather than the praises of satisfied customers. Look up the work customer. Study it.

How do I update the Yahoo toolbar since I didn’t when first offered ?
November 28th, 2007 at 7:12 am
Sometimes its best to leave well enough alone. I find that everytime there is a Update… it just seems to take away what was better or more fun to use and becomes more complicated and boring to use.

I use the yahoo mail at work and I am unable to download anything new onto my computer. So therefore I am unable to download the new toolbar.
My yahoo mail has been terrible since it changed from “beta” to the “all new email”. (I know they are the same). The name just changed.
The beta worked perfectly for me and then it all of a sudden stopped.
The classic is working some of the time…but I prefer the other. Its easier and better looking. Please consider the people that can’t make updates to their computers.
Thank you.

Please tell me how I can return to the old email site as everything takes so long to access and i can`t add a new folder as I used to.I don`t need news updates or anything else just something that works efficiently and quickly.

foxfire will not update to the newer version. ie7 does and works fine, but foxfire is the better browser. get with foxfire to get the new version to work right. Don

Did Don mean Firefox rather than foxfire? I use Firefox Yahoo Toolbar version 1.4.1, which apparently is already up to date. Everything works fine for me.

November 28th, 2007 at 4:32 pm

I fell for the update and now I can’t get into my e-mail, I use it all the time but it is pre-set by our computer person. Bad timing as I am in need to a lot of people as we are to move. Try to warn people bout the upgrade next time as it has been costly for me already.

From the other comments, the scripted links to the New Mail server may still be buggy; the links from the New Mail module on cm.my.yahoo.com have worked perfectly with Y! Mail Classic to date (the only annoyance being the Open New Window default on these links, but both Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.10 and MS-IExplore 7.0.6000.16544 have different Open Options from the right-click submenu). Do check for remaining bugs in the new Y! Mail software that might be complicating things.

I can’t able to access my old email box
November 29th, 2007 at 12:59 pm
What a bunch of whiners here in the comments section!
If you don’t like the newer Yahoo Mail interface, just push the “Mail Classic” button in the top left corner of the main mail screen. Duh!
I think the new Yahoo Mail is an amazing technological achievement — kudos to the Yahoo team! Love the toolbar too. Keep up the good work.

i CAN’T OPEN MY YAHOO EMAIL IN THIS COMPUTER
November 29th, 2007 at 2:07 pm
The new email system is ‘prettier’ but technically, functionally and from an efficiency point of view is far worse than the older, uglier, but faster Yahoo! mail.
Moral of the story, younger and pretty is not always better
November 29th, 2007 at 3:28 pm
I am glad to see that many others are having trouble with yahoo mail because I have sent numerous emails for tech support only to have the response be they can’t duplicate my problem but it seems others are experiencing the same problems. I downloaded the new toolbar as instructed, I updated my yahoo home page to the new one and now nothing works!!! I loved the beta mail but this is ridiculous. I don’t know how long we can wait for these problems to be fixed.
November 29th, 2007 at 4:06 pm
to be perfectly honest, I have no idea what has happend. Everbody that i talk to doesn’t seem to know what I’m talking about. All I know is that I cannot access my mail. It has been reported to me that a non yahoo software has modified my mail page therefore it cannot launch( whatever that means). Like all the others, I too would seriously appreciate some kind of assistance, but I can’t read my mail. Thank you very much.
November 29th, 2007 at 4:29 pm

2-However due to these incessant messages I downloaded the latest!!Then….
3-IE does not open webs now on new tabs.

I wish I had seen this area before I had an IT guy come and try to fix my problem with my email thinking it was my computer. Everything mentioned here are the problems I have been experiencing - wouldn’t load up, won’t delete, won’t upload pics,. After 4 hours of his work on my computer - yahoo mail still didn’t work for me with constant error messages. I know I needed to have the maintenance work done for better overall performance of my old computer but the frustration I/we had with yahoo mail was the worst. Now I go immediately to “trouble loading?” and click onto classic mail and no problems. Why?

November 30th, 2007 at 4:34 am
Alright all you dweebs who just say
“I can’t read my mail please fix it for me”
What the hell do you think Ryan can do for you? You’ve told him NOTHING about your problem. You’ve given him NO guidance to help you. What system are you running? What browser? What versions? What hardware? What type of connection? Do you even KNOW these answers? Do you know where to find those answers?
Ryan’s made is clear multiple times that he’s NOT tech support, so quit treating him like he is. And even if he was, you’re making stupid requests.

Keep making these absurd up-dates and soon 95% of your users will be at another e-mail/ home page. Then what will happen to your advertising revenues?
Study the great success of Ford and GM and see where it got them. I DON’T update. The last time that I did, it took me two months to straighten out the mess.
Some of us have lives to live and jobs to do. For us the computer is a tool to accomplish out tasks–NOT a toy to amuse us.
