Introducing the New & Improved Yahoo! Mail Security Site

For those of you out there who have been looking for a place to find all of the latest and greatest ways to protect your inbox from malicious email, I’ve got some exciting news. The Yahoo! Mail Security Site (antispam.yahoo.com) has been overhauled and has a bunch of great new info for you.

Some of you may remember the old Security Site. It was nice and all, but the updated site features better overall organization, has even more tips to avoid that pesky spam and those dangerous viruses, and to top it off is much easier to navigate.

My personal favorite reason to visit has got to be the great new icons. The sickly, green envelope representing Viruses is awesome!

Yahoo Mail is great. One thing has nagged at me the last couple years. Perhaps it would help security…Why isn’t there an option to do all Yahoo Mail stuff via an SSL connection? Speed? Expensive? Anybody?
November 20th, 2007 at 4:31 pm
so, since you were able to update the security issues, can you FIX the email? cuz the people i’ve talked to, on the east side of the country are having issues loading thier email!
i just dont know where else to go for help!

Can I please have my old E-Mail site format back? Much less cluttered and easier for these old eyes to read
Thanks

I am wondering if the new system will prevent the sporadic, inexplicable loss of archived emails. I’ve logged in for years and three times in the last two of them, all my saved emails are just gone. I’ve changed my password (many times) to ward off hackers…but it just keeps happening.
November 20th, 2007 at 6:09 pm
I would like to read my e-mail and enjoy getting to my e-mail the easy way and the right way .Please help me get
November 20th, 2007 at 6:44 pm
Please chage back to the old classic format for reading e-mails. In my opinion that little window puts a strain on the eyes and I have to veiw all my e-mails, Instead of just browsing thru & marking for deletion. Help! Help! We are being Hi-Jacked.

Ryan looks like he can handle anything. I think the problem is that the Aeneid which about how the Lympic athletes in the early prehistoric era developed the use of steroids has been the by word for the 47 tribes of kenya which is the Russian space program . The Aeneid is about how the Goddesses from other planets use the foot prints of ancient athletes in the greeek city state to control the sublimal dream state of drug uses

Why can’t I delete emails or move them to any of my folders? Since I did the last “update” I can’t do anything except read my emails. I can’t delete, move to a folder, list as spam, etc. HELP!! If I check my email from work I have no problems using these functions??? Penny

HEAR! HEAR! The new yahoo e-mail and the new my.yahoo personal page are both too problematic to use. I’m switching to another service if it’s not running smoothly within a week – and I’m a paid subscriber!!
I have been severely short changed by the new yahoo. It drains my time every time I use yahoo – and that is usually all day!
November 20th, 2007 at 8:29 pm
Marilynn and Joe, I had the same problems and switched back by finding and clicking on “classic” yahoo E-MAIL. It brought me back to the comfortable old style.
November 20th, 2007 at 9:15 pm

WHY DOES MY E-MAIL NOT WORK. ITS HAS NOT BEEN WORKING FOR OVER A WEEK. I READ A MESSAGE IT WAS BEING WORKED BY I CAN NOT GET ON AT ALL! PLEASE CAN I GET THE PROBLEM CORRECTED? THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!
November 20th, 2007 at 9:52 pm
please, bring back the old e-mail. this just sucks
November 21st, 2007 at 5:10 am
I also didn’t like the new email when it came out either, I was getting frustated, so I switched back to the classic. Things are familiar and easier. From the new email, there is a button you can click on to go back to the “classic” look.
November 21st, 2007 at 7:13 am
Whenever I click the spam button it is supposed to delete the offending message, block the sender’s address, and tell Yahoo! That the message is spam. If I have reached my 500 blocked addresses limit, does Yahoo! Still mark the sender as as spam if I click on the spam button?

Great a grip! It’s easier to use than a disposable diaper!
November 21st, 2007 at 8:11 am
I have not been able to send emails with attachments from Outlook via Yahoo for over a week now. I checked all my computer settings and nothing has changed from when everything worked OK. This problem is killing my business communications. What should I do?
November 21st, 2007 at 8:21 am
Please find a way of blocking e-mails from Kenya from Doctor Mabutu or whatever his name is. My yahoo account is stuffed with e-mails like this.
Yahoo needs a system where you can block key words from outside e-mails.
November 21st, 2007 at 8:27 am
The new Yahoo rocks! OK – Mail may crash a little too frequently but I’m sure that it will improve over time. When it works it works great. And the new My Yahoo functionality is tremendous!
November 21st, 2007 at 10:34 am
What is the deal with Yahoo mail? For the past three days it doesn’t open or opens up to a strange page.
I found one small window yesterday where I was able to check my mail for a few minutes.
November 21st, 2007 at 11:50 am
Beta is a big improvement and has brought me back to My Yahoo full time. One snag I have hit twice in the last 3 weeks is my in-basket being ‘emptied’ mysteriously from one day to the next. I’ve learn to move important emails out of my In Basket right away to avoid losing them. Has anyone else reported this?
Note: No emails in my in-basket were over 30 – 40 days old at the time this happened and some were a mere one day old.

Are the above-mentioned security applications available for users of Apple-Macintosh systems?
At present, Comcast, net provides such protection for PC’s only. Thank you.

hey as much as i love yahoo i hate the fact that they wont let me in

I am sick and tired of paying you people almost $20 a year and here I just fond out you have been bouncing my mail for over three months – STOP IT – NOW. If you are unable to do your job correctly I shall discontinue paying you to do it incorrectly!

This new beta email stinks. I can’t even use it and no matter what I click on nothing happens.. I can’t even get it back to classic. Can anyone tell me how to do that? After numerous time spent I finally found a way to send a technical question, but if I can’t get into my email how do I get help. Any body know how to permanently move back to classic?
November 21st, 2007 at 4:45 pm
Uh, since I haven’t had the problems most of the people who have posted comments, I can’t get really upset over the “new mail.” Isn’t everyone able to change back to the classic or old mail by clicking somewhere above in mail? (Perhaps I should be worried–maybe I’m just fooling myself into thinking I’m not missing any emails)?! I personally change back to the classic mail, simply because it loads more quickly on my machine; and, so far, so good–Thanks
November 21st, 2007 at 5:27 pm
I’m with everyone who changed back to Classic. The new layout is confusing and the print is too small for many people…Hey, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
November 21st, 2007 at 5:40 pm
I have not gone to the new email- and after reading these comments- I won’t do it either. Fix the software- and use usability tests (not focus groups) but individual monitored user tests to get this right.
November 21st, 2007 at 5:45 pm
I hate thye nem page. I can’t edit it or change it or even see my e-mail. This is wrong, just wrong to hi jack me and make me use this. I”m looking for another browser……
November 21st, 2007 at 5:49 pm
Just would like to check my n[]mail without all this meaa
November 21st, 2007 at 6:32 pm
I just switched to gmail as Yahoo erased all my saved emails unexpectedly with no prior warning. These were some important emails I was saving. Can’t stay with yahoo if I can’t trust you with my information. Also, you’ve changed my email address it seems. This is messed up—and I don’t like the new and improved email either.
November 21st, 2007 at 7:24 pm
I have not been able to use yahoo mail for almost a month now. I can see new incoming email but not able to erase them or send out new mails. There is no error messages but keep saying action completed. Please check that out for me. I have been using this email address for years and I hate to switch.
November 21st, 2007 at 8:53 pm
I love the new mail, EXCEPT for a couple things that eventually bother me enough to switch back to Classic for a while. It often loads very slowly. If a search results in a long list, it’s impossible to scroll through it, because it keeps jumping back to the top. It’s incredible that in manage bookmarks you can’t edit the URL.
November 21st, 2007 at 9:28 pm
The new email version is awful. I cannot delete any of the emails. The click and drag feature does not work either. It won’t let me switch back to Classic Mail that ALWAYS WORKED without any issues. I have made SERVERAL attempts to contact Yahoo to get this resolved and all I ever get is automated responses. I can receive emails but can’t delete them or do anything else with them. I can see new incoming email but not able to erase them or send out new mail. I receive no error messages and I can’t even return to the Classic version. This sucks! Let’s get it fixed Yahoo!! MSN/Hotmail came up with a new email version before your so called new version and I have NOT had one problem with MSN/Hotmail. This is NOT looking good for you Yahoo! This new email version has been down for a long time now and I’m growing VERY impatient.

such a good idea!i love it.
November 22nd, 2007 at 6:10 am
I love Yahoo. I love the readily available news that I enjoy from my previous selection of items of my interest. Of course I love my mailbox also. Yes, the old format suits me better.. I’m not that young anymore and feel comfortable in familiar environments. And last but not least, I love all the security features not only when I receive mail, but also when I make Internet purchases. Thank you Yahoo! I wove ya.
November 22nd, 2007 at 7:10 am
This sucks. Can’t do anything but read the email. Can’t even get switched to Classic. I can’t move to Spam or to any of my folders. Why can’t Yahoo finally get it right? Please fix immediately!!!
November 22nd, 2007 at 7:25 am
I can;t open my e-mail to read it. Please fix it.
Thank you
Happy Holidays
November 22nd, 2007 at 9:15 am
Please assist to return to previous mail. Yahoo! mail is the worst thing that has evevr happened to me in life. Very frustrating, I can not read or send mail
November 22nd, 2007 at 11:51 am
Ever since Yahoo decided to “improve” the e-mail service it has gone crazy! I can send e-mails and receive all messages sent to my associated accounts but I can no longer download in Outlook any e-mails sent to my main address. Please remember the old adage “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”
November 22nd, 2007 at 3:52 pm
The old email worked fine- the Beta not at all. Tech devalues like currency.
November 22nd, 2007 at 4:15 pm
you have to sign up again with yahoo account in order to get your old classic e-mail back
November 22nd, 2007 at 4:57 pm
Yahoo Beta, is not friendly. It is so confusing and I could not even send messages from it, as such I was constrained to shift to old version. The classic version is very clear.

Hello fellow Yahooer’s. Like you I am extremely frustrated with Yahoo and the email problems with the new Beta version email. I spent several hours yesterday trying to figure out how to get help from them and after several automated responses I finally get a real response and of course according to them the problem isn’t on their end but on mine. I never ever had issues before with the Classic Yahoo until I made the switch to the new Yahoo. So, I’m not buying that the problem is on my end. The only thing I can figure out is that Yahoo has designed a new version that is not compatible with Window’s 2000; IE 6. They suggested about 10 different things that I try that goes from one extreme to the next. I won’t be doing that and I’ll stop using Yahoo email before I’d go to those extremes.
What part of I DIDN’T HAVE A SINGLE PROBLEM WITH THE CLASSIC VERSION; THE PROBLEMS DIDN’T OCCUR UNTIL I SWITCHED TO THE NEW VERSION DON’T THEY UNDERSTAND???
I have discovered a way to get back to the Classic Version. Clicking on the link to go back wouldn’t work for me. So, I clicked the refresh button and where the link is for changing back to the classic mail is a message that comes up saying: Trouble Logging In? Immediately click on that and it will open a new page with the following options which is what I believe you would get if the link worked to change back to the Classic Version.
The options are:
-Try clearing your browser cache
-Try clearing your browser cookies
-Taking too long? More info
-If you received an Active X warning, please enable Active X
-Check your email in Yahoo! Mail Classic
-Switch back to Yahoo! Mail Classic by opting out of Yahoo! Mail
I went with Switch back to Yahoo! Mail Classic by opting out of Yahoo! Mail and it worked and I am able to do everything I had always been able to do in Mail Classic.
Again, click: refresh button, click: Trouble Logging In? click: Switch back to Yahoo! Mail Classic by opting out of Yahoo! Mail.
Let me know if this works for you as well; I hope it does. I will never switch back to the new version.

This new beta email stinks. I can’t even use it and no matter what I click on nothing happens.. I can’t even get it back to classic. None of my icons work. Can anyone tell me how to do that? After numerous time spent I finally found a way to send a technical question, but if I can’t get into my email and open the messages how do I get help. Any body know how to permanently move back to classic?

i have sent queries to any address in yahoo! thzt might be able to assist. whenever i open an entry in my mail box, the letter will appear momentarily, then be replaced by a yahoo! search page. basically i can’t read my email!.. i have been a loyal subscriber of yahoo! since 1991, but am about to admit defeat and open an MSN or Google account, something I truly don’t want to do as I believe in brand loyalty.
Is there anything you can do to identify the problem and fix it so i can read my email? I haave tried to clean the cache by deleting cookies and temporary internet pages, rebooting, and performing ritualistic dances (both by me or my naked girlfriend). I am becoming suicidal over this issue(joking . . .) but, can you shed some light on my problem?
Thank you, Chuck

My brother Tyler W Bingham recently passed away and I have been handling his affairs, and have been receiving several emails from several individuals asking me to fill out a probate application form that I did download and they wanted it filled in and returned. I have not and now I am afraid that someone has hacked into his accounts. He was self employed and owned the company What Phones Want. His email is tylerwbingham@yahoo.com and whatphoneswant.com. I am very worried and concerned for our privacy as a family. Can you help me? Sincerely, Kari Salisbury
November 22nd, 2007 at 11:35 pm
I sent you an email regarding my little brother and I put one of the email addresses in the website field and that is the email of one of the scam artists. They are the following:
Paulegho12@yahoo.com, p_egho1@yahoo.com, p.egho@easymail.hu, ernest.p@ubanknig.org.
Please please update your records regarding this. I have saved every email. I have changed Ty’s password. What else can I do to protect us?
Sincerly, Kari Salisbury 801-501-8892

The comments are shocking. There is always a bunch of dudes having problems with everything and complaining. Yahoo!Mail is the best service today, I’ve never had problems with Yahoo. They improve every day, they ask our opinion; what you people are complaining about ? And stop please with your “how do i get my old mail back” and “how to male my email work”. Just if you can’t use an email box, switch to classic post dudes! Fed up to read same comments in the topic that has nothing to do with your stupid problems.

Yahoo! Mail is “broken” (to some extent on Firefox 3.0 beta 1). It’s throwing an NS_ERROR_DOM_WRONG_DOCUMENT_ERR exception.
On http://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs/Gecko_1.9_Changes_affecting_websites#WRONG_DOCUMENT_ERR , it says that starting from the Gecko 1.9 alphas, you need to clone nodes from an external document using importNode (it was not enforced before Gecko 1.9)
Since Firefox 3.0 will be using Gecko 1.9, you guys would need to fix this before the final version comes out.
FYI. Good job on the new Yahoo! Mail.

November 25th, 2007 at 6:03 pm
i have been using yahoo mail for nearly a decade. since the switch, my email often fails to load. switching back to classic helps, sometimes. and at home, where i still have dialup (hey, i live in the caribbean & things are a little slower to reach us) the are times that i swear that i’ll never the page to load.
i’m giving it another month. if it ain’t fixed, i’ll be trying out gmail. are you listening yahoo? all the complaints listed here ought to be a big red flag!
November 26th, 2007 at 6:12 pm
I love Yahoo!Mail (beta) which is now called The New Yahoo!Mail. I was an early adopter and never switched back. I love the IM, Text, and email options and especially like the RSS Feeds. It’s very addicting.
Are all you people having problems on the same Yahoo! service as I am? Sometimes I think there are multiple Yahoo!’s. j/k.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:52 am
Ok Yahoo, if you have updated your Mail, WHY??? do I keep getting x-rated emails? I do NOT go to adult websites. I do not open the emails only flag them as SPAM. I still have not heard from you regarding the ‘rogue’ folder that I have with the new email, that I can not delete.
November 28th, 2007 at 10:54 am
Lose the home page or at least give the user the option to go DIRECTLY to the inbox.
That is what MAIL IS ABOUT…. HELLO????? I already have a home page……. What is it with all of these mail sites…Yeah Verizon,Comcast etc… When I sign into mail I want my INBOX PLEASE…
Gee… when I open up Outlook I get my inbox Why do you nerds keep adding layers?
November 28th, 2007 at 8:59 pm
I am getting tired of clicking the spam button. I have been getting at least 7-8 obvious spam email like various form of viagra, how to make money from staying at home, refinance etc. Even the aim.com seems to do much better job to filter out the spams, not mentioning gmail. Come on, a new look can mask a degraded product, this is like one step forward and 3 steps backward.
November 29th, 2007 at 6:14 am
I haven’t been able to connect to the mail server for several days. I’m signed in – what’s wrong?
November 30th, 2007 at 7:49 am
What is up with my email? It is in a frozen state and I cannot access anything. For the past 3 days, it’s been like this. I am tired of constantly having access issue problems with my account. I am seriously considering switching to another competitor because this has been very frustrating.

Yahoo Admin, is there a response you can give? I experience the same problems since I removed XP and reloaded win 2000. I am able to use my email fine on any other coputer other than the one at home. Is the problem related or local to our IP address(at home)? Please respond.
December 8th, 2007 at 2:12 am
Hey!!! I used my Laptop that has XP to log on to my yahoo mail, used the option to change back to Classic and whalla – I went back on my win2000 desktop and am now able to manage my mails again. Shooooh!!!
So, the setting was stored in my account when I had XP. When I changed to win2000 I could not change the setting.

I got an account recently, so I’ve never seen the old look. Are these problems happening to the rest of you because you’ve had the old look? I’m just wondering because I have no problems with my mail so far. Hopefully I don’t find any problems in the future as I learn to use Yahoo E-mail.

I’ve been having problems at work and home with Yahoo Mail. I finally figured out it was because of the New Yahoo Mail. Apparently, the new Yahoo allowed you to use the classic Yahoo Mail – which worked well for the many access points (behind personal firewall, government firewall, or corporate firewall) I sue. However, about a week ago Yahoo started to automatically default to the new mail format while using the new Yahoo format. It took a while to figure it out. At present I have 2 fixes:
1. Select (switch to classic mail) when it finally realizes it’s stuck (1-2 minutes after timeouts)
2. Choose the classic Yahoo for all (homepage and mail)
Hope this helps anyone having the same problems as me.
BTW, I like the new Yahoo home page so if anyone has a fix that will allow me to use the new Yahoo home page with the classic yahoo mail, please post.
