I had the same problem. As daniel said, just go to Yahoo mail customer service and chat with a live rep.

I’m guessing that there is a setting that is turned off by default, to speed up search, that doesn’t let you search anything older than a month, and Yahoo is betting that most users won’t need to search past a month. But if you contact them, they’ll turn on the setting for you.

I had been having the same search troubles (only finding mail a couple weeks old after having used yahoo mail for years). This blog inspired me to try harder to fix the problem and I tried the Yahoo Mail Customer Service LiveChat under Contact Us (http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/original/forms_index.html). I described my problem to ‘Phillip’, and he was able to reproduce my problem (yay!), then he did some Yahoo magic and managed to fix it for me. Hooray!

Try IMing Phillip. Tell him I sent you.

I can still not search my old email
only get hits on mail from JULY 08 and newer
everything else past JULY 08 does not get searched or retuned in my search
When is this gonig to be fixed?
I contacted yahoo Chat support 5 times but always the same answer:
“we are aware of the problem but don’t know when it will be fixed”
How can this go on for such a long time ?
A big company like Yahoo with tons of resources and smart people?
I am seriously thinking of retire yahoo mail and go to gmail…

The “search” function in Yahoo is broke and they can’t fix it. Thats the truth, and it has been a problem since the begining of the year. The best option is go to Gmail. Its too bad, the Search function used to really work well.

I’m glad to hear that I’m not the only one having the search issues. Mine began in July, and although Yahoo has been good at responding, it’s been the “canned” responses like above. Knowing htis goes back to February worries me. I had never thought of switching providers…anticipating the headache of switching everything over and updating my friends/family. Hopefully we get some sort of answer soon…sigh

I am also having the same issue with the search function; I contacted customer service and got the same response like everyone else…..I think they should be able to provide us with rough timeline as to when we should expect this problem to be resolved….

I complained that my search only accesses messages going back a week and got the same sort of kissoff JT got above. Then they solicit my feedback regarding their wonderful (lack of) customer support so I let ‘em have it. Now my complaint gets escalated, only they wanna make sure it’s me because if I’m not, the only tool that makes unlimited storage anything but worthless should remain broken?

I think the brains in the outfit must have hotfooted out the doors in advance of Yahoo’s board getting the hook. Only an imbecile could remain loyal and not contemplate Gmail in the face of the history of complaint detailed above.

Yahoo’s broken and whoever hasn’t bolted can’t fix it.

After at least 6 years of good experience I only get search results for the last two weeks. I used the search function at least 10 times a day. I’m really frustrated and this just started on 7/10/08 or so. I have to switch to another provider.
