Finishing Your Emails with a Flourish

I always like to end things on a high. That’s why I love being able to add a special signature at the end of my emails. Just a little something that’s all mine, with some contact details thrown in for good measure. You can do it too. Add a saying, a proverb, a phrase that sums you up. It’s up to you how you sign off.

sigfield-2.jpg

It’s easy to do, just start by click on Options, then selecting Mail Options. In the center of the page after “Signature:” select “Show a signature on all outgoing messages”. On the far right of the message window above the text area click either Plain Text (yawn) or Rich Text (cool and colorful stuff) before you start writing your signature in the text area. As you can see from mine I opted for Rich Text, and even included a sprinkling of HMTL. There isn’t an option to manually insert or edit HTML, but you can copy/paste from other pages if you have something you want to use. Finish off by clicking Save Changes, and you have a signature.

There you go, hope you enjoy it!

Hi Ryan,

I am giving Y! mail another try after several years. It seems very rich. I tried your settings for the signature and it works, but I still get the Yahoo mail advertisement under my signature. Is removing that a premium feature?

Hi Ryan,
I’d love the option to choose to use my signature with each outgoing email……… or not. Also - Having the option of a couple of different signatures would be useful to me.

I used this feature before and then stopped for the reason that Chris suggested - there wasn’t a choice of when to use it and when not without having to make a couple of extra efforts to enable/disable it.

I also wanted to have a choice of several signatures to use, but that’s not available either.

Both would be wonderful tools to have!

I used to use signatures when classic Yahoo Mail had a simple checkbox to disable it for a particular message. I setup my signature and had it on for the default, but it was easy to turn it off for just one message if I wanted. With the current version, it’s just too many steps to disable the signature for one message, so I don’t use it at all. Give us back that quick option and you’ll see a lot more usage.

I agree with most of the people who commented that it’s a great tool and kind of neat to add a piece of yourself to the end of emails but sometimes as is the case when sending a business type email you don’t exactly want your funny signature at the bottom. There are to many steps to go through to remove it so I stopped using mine. Plus it would be nice to be able to have a couple different signatures to choose form.

With my other email programs such as eudora, i could copy and paste a graphic, i.e. a jpeg file as part of my signature, but this cannot be done now with Yahoo. Also as I mentioned in another message to U it would be nice to be able to forward an email and be able to C it and edit it before sending it. Sometimes U just do not want others to C the addresses on a forwarded email. Thanks for reading this I hope….

Never forget the basics. People will never use a great application even it does not have the ability to do one or two things people.

Add an enable/disable signature feature on each new email message, and people will use this.

Signatures are often nothing but an ego trip. Being cool can be a pain to those who receive them. Especially when you get regular emails from the same person. There are a hundred features I would rather have.

What I don’t like is when I reply to a message. I put my text at the beginning, but the signature goes after the forwarded part of the previous e-mail

For those who are behind the times (or do not have their own business) signatures are not an ego trip, but an e-marketing tool. I get significantly more hits on my websites since I have added the urls to my signature. I do agree that an option to add/disable and have multiple signatures would be much appreciated.

They definitely need to put an “Add Signature” button on composing emails. This should be a drop down button that allows you to choose between 2 or 3 signatures that you have preset on the Signature Options page. Please put this feature into Yahoo Mail so that these superflous steps are eliminated and signatures are worth using.

The new Yahoo! Mail does not allow you to elect the use of signature or not on individual outgoing emails. That option sure would be nice.

Also, incoming emails do not color code depending on which address was used. That, too, would be useful in the new mail system.

I join the many voices who ask multiple signatures and the optional use in every message. Howard seems to have a complex with the signature, to me it is a great tool to keep my contacts updated on my activities and location, due to the many different things I do and varied hats I use.

Ryan,

I agree with the comment made by Chris on Sept 18th. Is there any way to add a button on the compose page to insert your signature. I don’t always want my signature on all my out going emails, so I have to go back and forth to the options page to change it all of the time.

Found a temporary solution until Yahoo updates to a system with multiple signatures to choose from and attach to different accounts. Take a look at: http://email.about.com/od/yahoomailtip1/qt/et_ym_templates.htm
on how to use templates to achieve this. It requires you to click twice instead of once when composing a new mail.
