I might be biased, because I work at Yahoo!, on the Mail team, with a great bunch of folks from all over Europe and the world. But I don’t want you just to take my word for it. Recently I’ve seen a spate of reviews on the Yahoo! Mail Beta, and guess what… the reviewers think so to.

Laptop Magazine, in its article “Google vs Yahoo. 3. E-mail & Calendar”, recently put Yahoo! Mail and Google’s Gmail head-to-head. And, you guessed it, in the comparison of Mail products, according to the reviewer Yahoo Mail! comes out on top.

Yahoo! Mail Beta – Winner, Best Webmail
In a recent article in PC World, they named some of the Web’s most useful sites. And yep, you guessed it, Yahoo! Mail Beta was named the best webmail service.
“Yahoo’s beta resembles traditional desktop e-mail programs, allowing you to sort mail by date or sender, resize fields, keep detailed contact information, scroll through messages with keyboard shortcuts, and create rules to sort messages.”

PLOEASE PLEASE PLEASE stop send those dreadful advertisments in my BTYahoo! interface. They are distracting and annoying, and seem to do everything you warn us against when discussing spam mail. I pay a premium price to BT for a professional service. Your filling my screen with unwanted adverts is just not professional. Have you checked the safety of all the web sites that the adverts take us to? I note that some of the adverts are partly hidden appearing to be part of the system, but they still take us to unwanted other sites. An awful practice on your part.
Can anyone help me with the following?
In the last month, about 6 people with whom I regularly exchange emails have sent me emails which I simply haven’t received. But I am still receiving emails from most other people.What could have gone wrong and what do I need to do?
Further to my previous comment, I also don’t like the way that Yahoo censors comments that are critical of its “wonderful” service.

I read every comment that comes through the blog. I also approve a lot of negative comments that come in. If the comment is relevant – positive or negative – I usually approve. Overall, you have to trust me that most comments that come into the blog are positive. I believe that we have a great product here, and I feel that most of our readers feel the same way.

On average, it takes 6 hours for an email sent to my or my family’s BT Yahoo accounts from certain networks, to arrive. That’s if they arrive at all.
Technical support is useless. Replies never display any technical knowledge whasoever.
The Yahoo site, particularly the help section, is littered with broken links. Here’s just one example – http://antispam.yahoo.com/domainkeys
My hosting company and myself have contacted Yahoo support repeatedly to solve the problem of failed mail. Yahoo do not respond. I’m not impressed at all.

Sorry that your experiencing delays in receiving your mail, and I’m sorry that you haven’t had a good experience with technical support. You should also be looking at the UK anti-spam site here: http://uk.antispam.yahoo.com. I don’t know where you got your link from, but checking out the UK anti-spam site, I can’t find any broken links.

I pay for the premium service, and am generally happy that it is value for money.
The biggest issues for me however are the ability to download multiple attachments (mentioned by someone else above) – this would be a massive time saver.
Also the ability to have pop access to all the folders, not just the inbox.
How come you can pay other providers to give you pop access to your yahoo personal folders, but you cant do it direct as a premium subscriber to Yahoo?
I love Yahoo, and i pay the annual sub, but I’m not happy in that I don’t think that those of us who do bpay the subscription are gettign value for money.
yahoo need to look at this and create more benefits for those of us who do stump up.

You make a valid point. However, for the £11.99/year, you get no ads, you go straight to your inbox, bigger attachment size, no account expiration and you get spamguard plus. For me, no ads and going straight to your inbox is a pretty compelling offer. Maybe, if you sign up for a new free Yahoo! mail account, then you can compare and contrast the two versions. I think you just might stay a plus user :-). The choice is yours.

Yahoo mail is way better than google, but falls a little short when compared to BlueTie. Also the lack of Opera support annoys the hell out of me.
I do like Yahoo, it is good for filtering and ordering emails, BUT , and it is a big BUT, the ad on the right is really really annoying! I keep closing the window,but it comes back everytime I open another email. Could you please make so that if I don’t want to see the annoying ad, I can remove it for the whole session? And I also find it way too slow, it takes ages to load a page or message. Please do something!
I have just switched from Tiscali to Madasafish and because of the irritation of changing Outlook set up and email addresses I will no longer be using that format any more anyway. Instead I am only going to use Yahoo so if I change ISP again it does not matter.
Will Yahoo mail always be around…?

Yahoo mail is definitely one of the best, if not the best, free webmail clients available, and is always improving. I would like to see the ability to upload/download multiple attachment files at a time. Particularly useful when one receives about a dozen or more files and has to open, scan and save them one at a time. Otherwise, keep it up guys!
i’m sorry but i don’t think yahoo is the best, there are a lot of things that can be improved, like the IM service with Live users and it regularly gives problems (sometimes being slow and sometimes just not loading messages)…
just remembered that most attimes when a mail is sent from or to me it takes virtually, like 24 hrs before it reaches the receiving end.would also appreciate if this is also looked upon to improve the services.thanks .
my all new yahoo is superb,but my problem is only with opening my mail box as in getting access through the home page. i wish its access speed could be increased some how , and congratulations on the award , i guess i would be intreoducing alot of my friends to open their e-mail boxes with the all new yahoo mail, cos you are the best .
Been on yahoo for years and I love it but i agree that lately it has become very slow i think due to adverts loading up… im sure it didnt used to be this bad!
i especially like the messenger part which you can have people with other addresses
I find Yahoo a little difficult to access – my Yahoo toolbar shows no e-mail icon and I find I must go a rather complicated route, followed by a signing in procedure. The Yahoo account is for my wife but she finds it impossible to access it without my help. Also as this is not the main e-mail account I would suggest a voice alert would help us know when a e-mail arrives!
I have been using different E-mail systems.But,found the Yahoo.mail most conducive.And It has been keep onimproving its
services.

I don’t think Yahoo or Gmail nor any of the main web email providers will bring in IMAP for all because the free webmail providers are giving away a good service but they also want users to see links and information and advertising that allowing users to receive email via IMAP on Outlook or Outlook Express would be avoided. Providing free webmail services is costly and is a business. Anyway, I am happy with Yahoo Mail’s every improving service.
I would though welcome what Vicki suggested above, namely that Yahoo added the voice notification which AOL has.

It would be nice if the response time between clicking on messages and folders and getting the contents to display could be sped up. It has been very slow throughout the beta and it is still very slow. The reason I like GMail is because it’s a lot faster. I have had my Yahoo! Mail account for over 7 years and I use it everyday. I’m a loyal Yahoo! Mail user, but there are some things that GMail does a bit better, which I think Yahoo! should examine closely and use to improve the service.
I am now fully converted, I am seeing the difference, keep it up please .

I would like it if yahoo, did the voice notification like AOL do. I think it would improve it as you always have to check for email.

I prefer Yahoo! Mail because:
1. Infinite storage
2. Interface
3. Chat within interface with Live users – although 80% of the times I can’t add a new Live contact to chat with :(
I hate Yahoo! Mail because:
1. Extremely slow
2. Too many adds
3. Very hard to add Live Contacts on Messenger
4. RSS is also very slow
I prefer Google Mail because:
1. Labels;
2. Popmail
3. Not so much adds
4. Very fast
5. Fantastic e-mail search
6. Fantastic Address Boek & Calender
I have recently transferred my personal E-Mail Address from Google Mail to Yahoo! Mail and whilst I’m very pleased with the features that Yahoo! Mail offers such as folders and the integration of an RSS Feed applet into Yahoo! Mail in order to all me to collaborate and organize my information, as a GNU/Linux User, I’m somewhat aghast that Mozilla Firefox is not a supported Web Browser via Linux Operating System.
The Linux Operating System marketshare is ever expanding with the availability of DELL Desktop PCs with Ubuntu Linux 7.04 available pre-installed onto them therefore it’s disappointing that I’m forced to use Yahoo! Mail Classic simply because I have the power to choose which Operating System I’d like to use. Apple Mac Users are given Web Browser support. There is no reason as to why GNU/Linux Users should be treated like this.
To make it truely the best, you need folders within folders for easy filing of emails. When is this feature coming (if it is)?

Thanks for you comment. At the moment we don’t support IMAP. However, we’re always looking for ways to improve and enhance Yahoo mail. So there’s always a chance, but at the moment it’s not supported.

yes i do agree, yahoo mail is now the best webmail client out there. but you know what would make it even better? IMAP SUPPORT!!! come on guys, even if its just for yahoo mail plus subscribers… why have you not done this already…
