Have I got news for you! Yahoo! Messenger news to be exact. Today I want to introduce you to a new Web-based version of the Yahoo! Instant Messenger. And the best thing is: No download required!!
You can check it out at http://uk.messenger.yahoo.com/webmessengerpromo.php. Just sign-in with your Yahoo! ID and now you can instant message (IM) from anywhere – work offices, Internet cafés, schools, airports – from almost any Internet-enabled computer (well as long as you’ve got Flash installed). How cool is that if you are off travelling or just on the go and sitting at your favourite Internet cafe.
So here’s the scoop…
Yahoo! Messenger for the Web is a light-weight service designed specifically for Web usage, and offers a lot of the features that Yahoo! Messenger users know and love and even has stuff that isn’t even available with Yahoo! Messenger’s desktop client software (that’s what the *’s are for in the list below). With the new service, you can:
- Search archived IM conversations from any computer using Yahoo! Search technology*
- Communicate with friends who are using Yahoo! Messenger and Windows Live™ Messenger
- Organise all instant messages in tabs, rather than separate windows*
- Enhance self-expression with Avatars, display images or photos
- Make conversations come to life with emoticons, fonts and colours
- Customize presence settings and set stealth mode
- Access Web-based service from any Web browser including Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari and Opera*
- Use multiple operating systems including UNIX, Mac OS X, and Windows 2000 and up
There’s even a video preview for your enjoyment.
As always… Happy emailing (or should I say IMing )

Send a Liam along with your Mail message

The next time you compose keep your eyes peeled for a little “present” from the Mail Beta team. Every once in a while, when you are composing an email you might see an ad that looks a little like this:
If you click and drag that Liam from the ad over to the email you’re composing it will add that Liam to your message.
There are three Liam’s to collect and share with your friends at the moment. There’s the boxer Liam pictured above and two others you’ll have to find on your own. So send a load of emails and see if you can find them all.
Happy Emailing

Dealing with Spam, Spam, Spam in the all-new mail

No, we’re not talking about the wonderful Monty Python sketch so lovingly put to song. Spam in your inbox is a nuisance and sometimes even downright infuriating. But dealing with Spam has just got a whole lot easier in the new Yahoo! Mail Beta.
Never open another spam message again:
The all-new Yahoo! Mail lets you zap spam messages without even having to open them. One click and it’s off to the spam folder for those unsolicited emails. Just highlight an email (or multiple emails using the checkboxes), then point your mouse to the button labeled “Spam” at the top of your inbox, then click that button and the message(s) is moved to your spam folder (not only that, but you’ve just reported that email address as spam and all future messages from that address will go directly to your spam folder).

Delete it all with one click:
Our enhanced SpamGuard automatically detects and directs spam into your Spam folder. With SpamGuard, your inbox won’t get bogged down with all those spam emails. And if you want to delete all spam messages with one click of the mouse, just click that “Empty” link next to the Spam folder. You never even have to open it to delete it.

What else can I do?
With the new Yahoo! Mail Beta, you’ve got options. Not only are we taking spam seriously here, but we also want to give you the tools to manage spam effectively and correctly. See that “Options” link hanging out in the top right corner? Click it and then click Mail Options.

In the left column, click the link called “Spam”. From here you can tell SpamGuard what to do with the unwanted mail that you get. You can choose how often to empty the Spam folder, and set up blocked email addresses.
What’s the bottom line?
When it comes to Spam, with the new Yahoo! Mail Beta, you’re in control. With our SpamGuard filter and greater consumer awareness you’re more protected from Spam than ever. Of course if you want to order it in a restaurant, that’s your choice!
Happy Emailing!
