Pack Your Bags

Coming to Yahoo! Mail for the first time? Multiple email accounts dragging you down? Too many contacts in too many places? Have no fear, Trueswitch is here!

We want to make it easy to take all of your contacts and transfer them directly into your Yahoo! Contacts list. And it’s not just limited to your contacts, either. You can choose to transfer calendar items and emails from other email accounts. And did I mention it’s easy?!

Don’t believe me, then just take a look at this video (click here for a full screen version)…

[kml_flashembed movie="http://ymailuk.com/blog1/wp-content/uploads/2007/05/movie11.swf" height="400" width="400" play="false" menu="true" /]

Told you so. Check it out for yourself

For all of you that can’t stop whistling that tune from the video… that’s “Maybe Tomorrow” by Terry Bush the theme song from the TV series “The Littlest Hobo

Nice as this is, I can’t see that many people really need it — most people who have multiple emails do so through choice. This little service is clearly designed to help new sign ups to Yahoo Mail migrate.

I love Yahoo and have been using it for years (and pay for the premium service too). I would have much preferred to see the calendar updated as it is still in the old style; what about finishing the Mail Options screens — some are in the new style, some in the old. Notepad too! The built in chat is a nice to have, but it is a shame it only works with other Y! messenger users; odd since messenger now allows you to chat to MSN users.

If I had to vote for one change it would be to bring the calendar into this century :)

Keep up the good work

Would be nice if true switch allows other domains of yahoo like .co.in since as far now it only allows .com and .co.uk

—-
Hi Sankaranand,
Thanks for the suggestion.  We’ll look into that for future iterations of the Trueswitch service.  And just an FYI – it also works for Germany with @yahoo.de (http://trueswitch.com/yahoo-de) and France with @yahoo.fr (https://secure5.trueswitch.com/yahoo-fr/)
Cheers,
Andrew – Yahoo! Mail Beta Team

what about transferring from …@virgin.net

It doesn’t have virgin on the drop down list.

Hi Helen,
Thanks for your comment.  Unfortunately, at this time, virgin.net email addresses are not supported at this time.  I will make a request to have emails from virgin.net added to the drop down list.
Thanks,
Andrew – Yahoo! Mail Beta Team

No transfer from btopenworld.com to yahoo.com for contacts??

Hi James,
Thanks for your comment.  I’ll put a request in to add btopenworld.com to the pick-list of possible transfers.  I can’t promise anything, but we’ll do our best to accomodate request for switching domains.
Thanks,
Andrew – Yahoo! Mail Beta Team

It would be great if it could also take emails from your Outlook inbox and dump them back into the Yahoo! email Inbox – for those times when one sets up POP Access and accidentally has the tick box active for “delete messages from server” once the email has been downloaded into Outlook (or any other POP email application)…

—-
Doh!!  I’ve done that myself.  The only way around that is if you have a mail plus subscription – and depending on how many messages – I usually just re-send them to myself from Outlook.
Sorry,
Andrew

How does this cope with folders other than the Inbox? e.g. the sent box and personalised user folders? I’d like to transfer my info from an “@yahoo.com” account to an “@yahoo.co.uk account – would all my folders transfer, or would all the email from my ‘com’ account appear in one folder after the transfer?

Hi Charity,
Your personal folders in your old mail account should be transfered over to your Yahoo! Mail Account. For example your inbox comes over as a folder called inbox. If you have a folder created called “Family” that will come over as a different folder.
Hope that helps,
Andrew – Yahoo! Mail Team

OTHERS email address is ?????@yahoo.co.uk

It would be useful for me to be a ?????@yahoo.co.uk. Can you do that??

Hi Jan,
If I understand correctly, you want your userID at the @.com address to become a @.co.uk. Unfortunately I’m unable to provide a solution to that. You can certainly transfer your emails and stuff from yourusername@yahoo.com to yourotherusername@yahoo.co.uk.

cannot transfer bt openworld to my yahoo uk address and i am running out of time.20 days to go before my bt openworld is defunct, and several years of info goes up in smoke, the adverts for your true switch are misleading and your customer response times are awful, sent yahoo email on this subject 3 weeks back,.SO when will you include bt openworld and bt internet in your true switch drop list

Hi Paul,
Unfortunately, BT Openworld / BT Internet is not included in the list of possible accounts to use this feature. I can offer an alternative solution, while not as easy as the Trueswitch, will achieve the same results.

First you can pop your BT Openworld account into your new Yahoo Mail account. Check out this help page for more details:
http://help.yahoo.com/l/uk/yahoo/mail/yahoomail/pop/pop-03.html

Second you can export your BT Openworld contacts, check with their help pages on how to do that. Then you can import them into your Yahoo Mail Addressbook. To do that click on the “Options” link at the top of your mailbox. Then click on the “Contacts Options” on the left column (that will open a new window). Then find the “Import/Export” link and import your BT Openworld contacts into your yahoo.co.uk account. Check out this help page for assistance on the import function: http://help.yahoo.com/help/uk/ab/impexp/index.html

If you need any help with your @yahoo.co.uk account – please feel free to contact us here: http://help.yahoo.com/l/uk/yahoo/mail/yahoomail/contactus/

Hope that helps.
Thanks,
Andrew – Yahoo! Mail Team

Tried several times to Trueswitch from my Gmail to my new Rocketmail account. Trueswitch just comes up with TS1 error and says I’ve entered the wrong email details and passwords, which I haven’t. Please help!

Hi Bob,
Sorry you’re having trouble with Trueswitch. I’ve tried just tried it again with Gmail and I cannot replicate your problem. The first time, I did enter the wrong password for my Gmail account and got the TS1 error message you describe above. Are you sure you didn’t have “CAPS LOCK” on when typing your password?
Thanks,
